RIP - John McLaughlin
 

Had to sigh, but saw it coming for a couple months now.

He was really weak in the last few episodes, but powered on.

But this past week he was only able to moderate via telephone.

Sad, but not unexpected. Passed at 89.

His sign off was 'bye, bye' followed by a short musical chorus echoing the intro, then the bark of his dog, Oliver.

In remembrance of John, the MCLaughlin Group youtube channel [and presumably syndication] is re-running one of their very first episodes.

Only Mort and Fred left.

I wonder if the guys from 810's Border Patrol know that this is the guy who says the "Bye, bye" that they sign off with.

Kept meaning to mention here, as of about 4 weeks, The McLaughlin Group is back on air. Pat, Eleanor and Clarence, joined by new moderator Tom Rogan.

Not necessarily. Word on the street is that Dana Carvey has expanded his repertoire to 6-string jazz as well as percussion. Not a note will be lost!
