Chiefs parking changes

Just came across this.
http://www.chiefs.com/news/article-2...1?sf31901094=1

TL;DR; If you pay cash at the gate parking is increased $10, if you buy a pass ahead of time it's still $30.

Bowser 07-27-2016 10:33 AM

Wow. They're trying really hard to make sure I never go to a game ever again.

Titty Meat 07-27-2016 10:33 AM

Watching games on TV is much better anyway

BWillie 07-27-2016 10:45 AM

Really not much point to go to games. Out of football, baseball and basketball...football is least enjoyable in person anyway. Yet, best to watch on TV.

Good luck, parking lot attendants. I would expect a great deal many '**** you's in the near future.

Am I reading this right?

After the 'early parking session', the Red Reserve lot essentially becomes public parking? That can't be right.

I've read it a couple of times now and whether intended or not, that's sure how it reads.

I'll be honest, I've gone to the public lots twice and if that's the way they intend to do things, I'm out next year. All the shit people talk about how unruly and awful the Arrowhead experience is these days comes from the public lots. It really is a bunch of sauced jackasses.

Red Reserve is (mostly) full of people that have committed thousands of dollars to the experience and it shows in how they conduct themselves. If they just open that up to jackass that pays his 30 dollars to come be a ****head, I'm not dealing with it.

Discuss Thrower 07-27-2016 11:12 AM

Can't not take away that they've pretty much turned everything not Gold or Platinum into cash lots.

This. Buying the parking pass was my best decision as Chiefs season ticket holder. It kept you away from all the trash.

I usually don't get bothered too much by Donovan's parking obsession, but this is asshattery at its finest.

They're obviously trying to get more discerning fans to pony up for Gold passes.

Last year we had a Gold Reserved pass for parking for a preseason game. We got there relatively early - a couple of hours before kickoff - and was told that they had oversold the Gold lots. We were forced to park 3/4 of the way back in Red.

Parking is an utter cluster**** out there. This shit started with Pioli and has only gotten worse every year since. Parking now damned near costs as much as the cheap seats in the house. Ridiculous.

That's how it looks to me.

They throw fits about parking "just so" when you get out there but even then the Red is never completely full for a game. How would you like to be that guy that shows up at 8:45 to tailgate but you get diverted off to parking lot N, but some snobby ****s ro hung over morons show up and get to park a half a mile closer to the stadium? They can blow it out their ass.

Discuss Thrower 07-27-2016 11:30 AM

Think of it this way:

Pay $300 for a Red Pass for 10 games, two of which don't actually matter and you probably won't attend.

or

Pay $40 at the gate 8 times for the games that actually matter and you'll probably attend and spend a total of $320.

Are the two preseason games really worth a $20 value?

Just spoke to the ticket rep and they confirmed.

Red Reserve is dead. It's all just going to be red parking now and yes, the 'public lots' no longer exist.

But you can't.

I've tried for 3 years to get them and it's for club level seats only. Screw that; my seats are expensive enough as it is, I'm not paying $250 per seat, per game just to get parking.

They won't let anyone outside of the club level ticket holders in Gold Reserve. I've put my name on their list if Gold passes open up; at 10 years of Seniority I'm probably in the top 1/3 or so, but I'm not expecting much.

Secondary market, maybe.

But like I said, we keep trying and they keep saying no. I suspect it will be even worse now.

This is absolutely ****ing asinine. The guy I share my tickets with is out of town today but he'll be back for our softball game tonight and I'm going to ask him if he has any compunction about me raising holy hell over this.

I was fairly reserved in my first communication because he had these tickets for 3 years before I came along and they're in his name. I'm disinclined to set the world on fire under his banner without his permission.

It SHOULD be the opposite, but it doesn't seem to be. Since they are pricing out much of the common fans, one would think that would lend itself to a more affluent, less Natty Light filled atmosphere.

Discuss Thrower 07-27-2016 11:39 AM

One thing we're glossing over is that the pass prices are fixed, but paying at the gate is variable.

Surely the Hunt family wouldn't lower the costs on a December game if the Chiefs were playing sub .500 ball now, would they?

You're not going to get shivved.

But every mouth-breathing Claynus in the stadium can be found in the public lots. And yes, generally speaking, the douche bros that just came to get ****ed up and sit in the top 3 rows with the tickets they got for $20 on stubhub are going to be there as well.

It's shittier, without question.

Then again, as you've evidently sat in a closed bar and gotten shitfaced at 3 in the afternoon, there's a good chance that yes, you are the asshole idiot.

Bowser 07-27-2016 11:47 AM

Here's the deal - they don't WANT you to tailgate for hours before the game. For all the talk of how we have the greatest tailgate atmosphere in the NFL, they would rather you show up at 11 so you can go inside and spend your money and their incredibly marked up food and beverage. Plus as an added bonus to them they don't have to pay volunteers cleaning up the massive piles of shit left behind by all the tailgates.

Discuss Thrower 07-27-2016 11:50 AM

If they aren't trying to hawk more Gold and Platinum passes, I don't understand Donovan's end game here -beside maximize revenue, of course.

Ensure the lots are actually full down to each space in every colored lot?

Cut down on complaints about a paying cash customer getting to games right when the gates open and being so far away from the stadium only to see red spaces taken up by people who get into TSC around 11:30am?

Try and deter drunkards with a higher upfront cost?

EDIT: Bowser's point is probably the most salient one.

On the flip side of that, in the occasions where I have parked in Gold or Platinum, the people around you don't really care for the big tailgate extravaganza, either. I've gotten plenty of dirty looks for having music too loud or playing a game of washers or pong.

The whole experience just sucks now, and they just keep fleecing away with the costs. The last year I had my season tickets, the wife and I figured we could go to Ameristar and watch the entire game, then go blow a couple of hundred in the casino afterwards and STILL pay less than what a gameday experience would cost, and that's not mentioning the prep time for food, building up the tailgate, cooking meals, breaking it all down, putting shit away when you get home....

Discuss Thrower 07-27-2016 11:54 AM

Just so passive aggressive to punish fans in the name of maximizing revenue.

Just jack up the Gold and Platinum lots to $150/game and the Red lots to $100.

IMHO they need to just bite the bullet and make pass buyers pick a color and letter and then receive a gate number to arrive in as well as the directive that no guarantee is made on whether or not you'll be able to park in that respective lot if you don't arrive an 1:30 prior to kickoff.

Discuss Thrower 07-27-2016 12:13 PM

I get the logic, but I don't think this will work as well as they intend:

Quote:

There will continue to be a one-hour early arrival open parking period for Chiefs Kingdom Rewards members beginning five and a half hours prior to kickoff for fans who redeem their Chiefs Kingdom Rewards points for an Early Arrival Tailgate Pass. There is a limited number of these passes available each game. Early arrival open parking will be directed to the appropriate sections (Red or Gold) of Lots C, D, F and G. All approved grass parking locations will also be available during this time on a first-come first-serve basis. Platinum (Lots M and E) pass holders who use points to redeem an Early Arrival Tailgate Pass will be directed to their designated lot. Early Arrival Tailgate Pass holders must enter through Gate 1 or Gate 7 and will still need to have a prepaid parking pass. If they do not.

have a prepaid parking pass they will be required to pay the cash parking fee at the gate. The redemption of points for an Early Arrival Tailgate Pass on Chiefs Kingdom Rewards does not secure your parking spotA 30-minute open parking period for guests who choose not to redeem Chiefs Kingdom Rewards points will be permitted four and a half hours before kickoff and those vehicles will be directed to Lots C, D, F, G and all approved grass parking locations. Four hours prior to kickoff, open parking will end and all vehicles will be directed to the next available space in the next available lot or will be allowed to park in available, approved grass parking areas.

That's a big part of it, but it's also intended to keep out the riff raff in light of a fan dying as an indirect cause of getting drunk at a football game.

Kicker is they're punishing the fans who are less likely to be the drunken riff raff to do so.

Further, they're limiting where you can park with regards to location to the stadium.

Fish 07-27-2016 12:34 PM

Surprised they have the nerve to raise parking, considering how woefully inadequate the current parking system is regarding the number of available lanes for vehicles, and how long it actually takes to enter/empty the lots on game days. They haven't really done anything structurally with the lot/roadways/exits over the last few decades while parking prices have continued to rise the entire time. It would be different if they could show some improvements. But it's just gotten worse over the last 5 years...

Bowser 07-27-2016 12:37 PM

Exponentially worse over 5 years, imho.

That's true. It costs an arm and a leg to attend any sporting event anymore. It's just not worth doing all that often anymore. I try to go to one game a year and maybe ywo or theree baseball and hockey games. Sad thinking how much money is pissed away on it over the years.

This is the most hilarious explanation of a drunken tailgate I've ever heard.

Yes the people are largely tanked and loud, but they're not going to kill you.

Unless you climb into their 99 Grand Cherokee - then you're pretty much asking for it per that CP thread.

I get it - my family had season tickets from 1994 - 2011.

I guess I just felt like the situation had gotten exponentially worse since I had regularly attended games.

On the other hand, maybe I was just wasn't as desensitized as I was previously.

Yeah, I only had season tickets for a couple of years, 2011 and 2012. I know, what a lucky guy! But I remember the shenanigans well.

I told myself I would buy tickets again regularly once they won a playoff game, then they go and Chiefs things up!

Uber it is, then. I have frequently gone to the downtown hotels and shared cabs with out of town fans too, since I generally don't tailgate unless it is a prime time game.

Tip if you want to use the non arrowhead lots and not tailgate, coming from town, pass Blue Ridge Cutoff, exit at Sterling, circle back on Hwy 40 and you skip the entire 435 to 70 exchange back up. I've been pretty happy in the church lot for 20 bucks. The subway one was difficult to get out of at the end, but the church one is always a breeze.

The $30 parking pass that is bought online also comes with a $5 fee unless you are a Jackson county resident.

Here's the crazy shit - I'm looking into the Broncos game for tickets. It's going to be half of my total season ticket bill from last year to go to one game.

How many tickets are you looking for?

Holy ****

40 dollars to park

And you can only rotate one direction

Must park in spot and only use 3 feet behind your car

Sad

Here's the deal - they don't WANT you to tailgate for hours before the game. For all the talk of how we have the greatest tailgate atmosphere in the NFL, they would rather you show up at 11 so you can go inside and spend your money and their incredibly marked up food and beverage. Plus as an added bonus to them they don't have to pay volunteers cleaning up the massive piles of shit left behind by all the tailgates.

notice the number of tables and coolers is lower in "the new parking experience"

Eat more moldy snacks and chug those 10 dollar bud lights

And holy shit note the oversized pass on the left. Must cost 100 or more

At least the diagram is accurate. All the fans appear to be passed out / laying on the ground.

:)
