Man this looks awesome.

Deberg_1990 07-23-2016 09:43 PM

I like how it's set during the Vietnam era and its shot similar to Apocalypse Now'

Something different for this type of movie.

Buehler445 07-23-2016 10:15 PM

I didn't hate the Jack Black version. This looks better.

ThaVirus 07-23-2016 11:06 PM

Shit. Is this the biggest Kong yet?

Whoever is playing John Goodman, looks pretty damn close. Except a little too skinny.

Cheater5 07-24-2016 06:14 AM

I kinda wish Samuel L. wasn't in it. I've reached the Jules Winnfield saturation point.

Yeah, I haven't paid any attention since the initial announcement. Actually forgot this was happening. Here is the original discussion thread...

I'm on my iPad so if someone could embed I'd appreciate it.

Looks cool enough. Nice cast and there appears to be a lot of action. I was a but thrown by the shift in tone, though.

This is set in the 70's and when they fight I think it's going be modern time so that gives KK time to have a growth spirt however shouldn't matter Godzilla can spank the monkey with his tail and then atomic blast him to a crispy critter.

DaneMcCloud 11-18-2016 08:39 PM

I'm really impressed with the direction of the trailer. I won't see it in a theater but if there's enough good word, I'll likely pick it up on DVD.

So it looks like a complete reboot of the original Kong. Just a different era and a drop of the 3rd act

Peter Jackson's King Kong is best King Kong.

Godzilla should spank the monkey with his tail and then atom blast King Kong into oblivion.

The best part, to me, was KK vs. the two T Rex's.

Otherwise, it's a note for note version of the 1933 classic.

This looks to take on a different angle, which is awesome.

All this movie is for is to introduce the bigger badder version of a young Kong set in the 70s so that gives him time to mature and get bigger so he can fight Godzilla in 2020.

In this movie he will be merely 100' tall but I expect a growth spirt so he will be a sizable foe for Godzilla in 2020.

RobBlake 11-22-2016 09:41 PM

didn't read up on this, but is this a continuance from Jack Black's version?

Yes, but Jack Black looks an awful a lot like John Goodman in this one.

Rasputin 11-23-2016 09:24 AM

Godzilla is going fight KK in 2020 but I can't wait for him to fight King Ghidorah in 2022.

It'll be stupid if they have King Kong beat Godzilla much like Batman beating Superman totally unrealistic.

I took some random video around town the other day... and he was even in those shots.

yes Samuel L just annoys the hell outta me. Tarzan was bad enough....he made it much much worse.
best scene he's ever been in was the smart shark movie...umm....deep blue sea....when he goes into his typical "yelling at everybody" scene...."we are gonna join together and we are gonna" CHOMP!!!! a shark eats him! I was like YES! YES! YEEEESSSSSS!!!

having said that...I still gotta see it. it's KONG man! he kicks ass!

I just hope that for once they write it so he doesn't die....I hate that part. :(

I hate that they're forcing this "Zilla vs. Gorilla'" universe.

The early leaks are that Skull island will be the new "monster island" and there will be a tie in to the next Godzilla film.

None of this sounds like it will end well...

It's like having a Flash Gordon and Indiana Jones shared universe. Could it happen?

Sure.

But, why?...

Godzilla v. Kong was done back in the 60's. They powered Kong up by having electricity revitalize him after Godzilla had kicked his ass. I believe it is still the #1 ticket selling Godzilla movie of all time, in Japan, although my memory of that could be wrong.

Toho wanted to both make a sequel and build a franchise around Kong (as they did with Godzilla) but, apparently, RKO choose not to let them.

I truly enjoyed it

It was like Apocalypse Now combined with a giant monster movie. A mashup we have not seen before. Very well made and I enjoyed the 1970s touches like the styles, music and old tech

Fun stuff. Better than it had any right to be

Hog's Gone Fishin 03-12-2017 06:27 PM

Agreed. Lots of action with no slow parts to speak of. A tad of comedy infused at times.

BigRichard 03-13-2017 08:37 AM

I hope they pull John C Reilly in on some of the future movies. He makes good comic relief and he actually played the scenes where he had to be serious very well.

Stay for the credits- they set up the upcoming rumble with Godzilla.

Should be epic.

I don't think Kong has a chance- but we will find out who is the real King of Monsters.

The heavy hand "hubris of man" that was pounded into the viewer got old

But lots of good...

Pros -
Well acted on all parts.

And the end credit scene basically turned me into a 10 year old again. I damn near jumped out of my seat at the end.

ThaVirus 03-19-2017 10:03 PM

I thought it was entertaining but kind of boring, despite all the action, and the humor missed me throughout the movie.

I'm excited for the showdown with Godzilla and all the other megaspecies though.
