Just ate at Golden Corral for the first time
Golden Corral is a factory of sadness. Hordes of the morbidly obese stuffing down gigantic portions of food. I think I'm gonna be sick.
On the plus side, the food wasn't awful. I enjoyed my mashed potatoes. |
I love to eat there. It is packed with people that are way overweight, that helps to remind you that you shouldnt eat there very often.
|
Did you show up five minutes before the steak went on the grill and pay the cheaper rate?
|
Still have thread starting privileges, huh?
|
Someone mentioned Golden Corral to my son in school so the last time we passed one we had to stop and eat there.
They had a lobster special going on, one free tail with each adult meal, so the wife ordered one just to see if it was as nasty as you would expect Golden Corral lobster tail to be. And it was. Had the texture of a pencil eraser and tasted like fish that had gone bad. |
Disgusting
|
First time, and your last.
|
Oh. I hoped you enjoyed the chocolate fountain.
|
Golden Corral..where you go to feel better about your own family

Actually did that once by accident at an Old Country Buffet. Showed up late afternoon, had a lunch buffet coupon even. It was a lazy Saturday and I intended to pick at some stuff and read the newspaper. Started off with a salad of course. I'm not even halfway through and they're hauling out all this new fresh dinner fare. Score!! |
There's nothing wrong w/ Golden Corral. Just sort of keep you eyes out. Actually I've heard wonderful things about their fried chicken. I was just about to do up a patty melt thread - but I think this one will carry us over into the holiday!
|
My condolences.
|
Can you go through what you ingested - Item-by-item... ?
|
I am still in the "eat as much as you want with no repercussions" part of my life. So yeah, I enjoy any and all buffets featuring below-average food and up. My fun is running out soon, I feel.
|
Anyone remember that video a few years ago of an employee filming ribs by the dumpster?
|
Prayers sent.
|
Enjoy spending your night in the bathroom.
|
Heh, I had a lunchtime conversation today about chocolate fountains and Golden Corral. We held a retirement party last Friday for a faculty member that had served since 1961 and had a chocolate fountain at the event. A lot of grown ups partook of the fountain since there were no children at the event to pollute the fountain. The fountain at GC was brought up in contrast. One person admitted to eating there once a year when their grandmother was in town.
|
I got dragged there for a relatives birthday once. I can't comment on the food since I lost my appetite watching people act and eat like heathens. It was worse than WalMart on Black Friday.
|
You didn't even take a picture of your plate?

My parents came to visit me in Scottsdale a few years ago. On one night my dad said he was in the mood for a good steak. Cool. I'll take them to the finest steakhouse in Scottsdale; Mastro's City Hall.
He then asked where the Golden Corral was. |

I've had to eat at a GC a couple times on-the-road with crew. Honestly, I never saw a lot of obese people each time. Must be the MidWest states that has them going there.
|
Eh, it's not as bad as Pizza Ranch. Both are disgusting, but PR sets the standard.

I went to pizza ranch for the first and last time a couple of weeks ago. It was packed full of scum. The fried chicken was the only redeeming quality. I've been to golden corral a couple of times when I was younger and Ryan's in St. Joseph dozens of times as a kid. They all suck in their own special ways.

I haven't been to GC in about 5 years, when I went, I wore the steak guy out. If I go to a buffet, it's Chinese and I only stay for 3:55 hours, gotta watch the girlish figure.

There are three Golden Corrals in the KC metro. Two on the Missouri side and one in Olathe. The one in Olathe is where Missouri people move thinking they'll be all JoCo! "We're movin' on up!..."
|
I went to the one in Council Bluffs, IA once and that pretty much ruined me for the place for life.
|
There's a place in Richmond that's not terrible if there's enough people there to keep the food turning over. Jeffrey Kyle's I believe.
|
The Orientals are the best at buffets.

Used to go to Chinese buffets once every couple months or so, but haven't been at all in years, more than anything because the best ones I'm aware of are so far away. The Old Country thing was 4-5 years ago and I haven't been since. With two exceptions, buffets are a once every 3-4 year thing nowadays. Exception 1, Ruby Tuesday Salad Bar. Still awesome, once every 6-9 months. Exception 2, House of India @ Delmar and I-170. Awesome, but a 'treat.' Once a year or so. |

If you have to low-brow the buffet, Furrs is slightly more legit.
|
Every Christmas and Thanksgiving I eat there. It is pretty good especially on those days. The one in St. Joseph has your usual Methheads and whores, but the food is decent.
|
The only buffet I ever go to is the Chinese one close by. They actually have a nice selection for dinner. It's not a traditional Chinese buffet. They serve king crab, squid, prawns etc.
Not cheap for dinner. Their lunch, however.... It tends to cater to the Golden Corral crowd. |
There's no buffet like the Gold Buffet!

It's been closed for what, 20 years? |

I think it was a GC, probably over 30 years ago. I saw a guy drinking straight from a Worcestershire sauce bottle. That is the last time I went.

The travesty of it all is that Emporia has (maybe had, IDK) some really great outfits to eat. It was an abysmal waste of dining opportunities. Quote:

A really close buddy of mine from high school ran into Derrick Johnson at a Golden Corral after a game last season.
It turns out DJ goes there quite often after games with his family. Lol |

The wife drug me there once. I took a couple of bites, then set there politely while they(her and her family) finished. Then after we left and was heading out of town back home, I whispered to the wife "would it be rude to ask your folks to go through a drive-thru or something to get some food?" She wasnt impressed:shake:
One small tid-bit I need to add is I was 3/4 drunk. I thought I could of ate the butthole out of a skunk, I guess they dont serve skunk:( |

We go once maybe twice a year. It is always packed with huge ass, white trash people. We went once last year and I couldn't muster up the courage to go for a long time. I watched them allow a family inside that looked like they hadn't showered in a month. All three kids had no shoes on, dirty clothes and one of them wasn't wearing pants. The parents had clothes on that looked like they used as toilet paper.
For $12, I'd prefer to punish my toilet with better food. |
When our kids were little, our family visited GC often. Unlike a lot of buffet places, they do prepare a lot of their food in open so cleanliness was one of the plus. I liked their boasted fired chicken and fried catfish. The steak, well, what do you expect from all you can eat steak? The kids loved the ice cream with different toppings.
In the past five or six years there are couple American Chinese restaurants that feature everything GC has and more open up. The Latinos and the Blacks flock over to these places. (This is confirmed by the waitress and my own observation.) Meanwhile GC's quality of food go downs noticeably. Now an evening meal costs about $13. Even my youngest kid who loved their macaroni and cheese said that it wasn't worth the price. |
