Candylicious: Round 1, Heats 21 through 24
 

Here are the rules. This will be a head to head tournament. For efficiency's sake, I will run four heats in each thread.

Therefore, I will put up four pairs of candies. For each pair, you will identify the candy that you would most like to have at the moment of voting. It doesn't necessarily have to be your favorite candy overall, just the one that sounds good right now. For visualization purposes, you may assume that you're out trick or treating (dressed as a gladiator), and the woman at the door is offering you your choice of two options. You can only pick one, or if you would turn them both down, you can pick zero (not to be confused with the Zero bar).

So to summarize, you will vote for four candies in each thread, one candy per heat. And here they are!

The heats are random, right? If so, huge coincidence there with the peppermint patty and the junior mints.

My votes:

Giant Chewy Sweetart over Runts. The GCS is a giant primoridial sweetart, like the kind the cavemen used to hunt. I haven't had one in years, but they really work. I'm so so on Runts.

York Peppermint Patty over Junior Mints. What a cruel random draw. Both of the top mints facing off in the opening round? Tsk, tsk. I love them both, but have to go with the YPP by a hair.

Pearson's Bun - Maple versus Werther's Original. This one could go either way depending on my mood. On this particular evening I like the smooth creaminess of a Werther's Original I only wish my grandfather was here to give me one.

Pixy Stix over Warheads. Warheads are pretty mediocre, while Pixy Stix are awesome. As a child I would often take my hard-earned money, walk to the convenience store, and buy a regular or giant Pixy Stix depending on my available resources. Good times, those were.

I know, right? It's heartbreaking.

Runts used to be good. Then they took out the lime, and later cherry. So **** them!

Wait, what? Which flavors do they have in the pack now?

But I gotta go with the York.

They replaced Cherry with Cough Syrup tasting Grape, and Lime with this god awful sour apple.

Wow, York PP against Junior Mints. This sucks!

I love them both, but will go with the Junior Mints because I love eating them at movies.

Weaksauce balloting

For all the jokes about Werther's, it appears to be a powerhouse.

Meh. Put it up against something like Reese's and watch it get destroyed.

This round we are faced with a)bags of sugar in poor disguise, b) grandpa candy, or c) mint -- the most disgusting substance on the face of the earth.

At least Marinovich lived 4 good years.

Need Kate Beckinsale option.

Once again, I am lockstep with Rain Man.

Giant Chewy Sweet Tarts: Runts are candy coated chalk.
York Peppermint Patty: I like both but the patty seems to hold up to heat better than the junior mints. Did anybody nominate Andes mints?
Werther's Original: I like maple and I like chocolate. I can't imagine maple and chocolate together being good.
Warheads: I like sour and tart candies.

I do, too, but Warheads are beyond the pale.

They at least taste like something. Pixie stix are just colored sugar.

Giant Chewy Sweetarts losing?!?!

Clearly most of you have never had them. They'd beat the shit out of gross ass runts any day of the week, on a real message board not centered around sheltered midwest assholes.

I thought the same! Giant Chewy Sweettarts are prolly one of my top fav candies.

I refused to vote for either mint. Blech.

I really like Runts, but GCS wins hands down. For one, I love them. Secondly, we used to sell them when I worked at the skating rink (years and years and years ago). Even if I didn't like them better, I'd vote for them for the sake of nostalgia.

The lemon Giant Chewy Sweettart might be the best single piece of candy in existence.

They should be knocked for changing the green from lime to apple though, a sincere **** you to Wonka for that.

Seems like lime is going out of favor. GCS, Skittles, Runts...

I'll admit that as a kid I was the least excited about lime flavored candies with the exception of Runts. The Runts lime was the softest of the bunch and really crushable. As I got older, lime/lemon flavors started becoming my favorites. Same with orange. The tragedy for me is apple. Really, apple as a sub for lime? Even sour apple doesn't really excite me unless we're talking Jolly Ranchers or Blow Pops. Apple Super Bubble is pretty great too though, I guess.

I'm surprised about the Runts thing since Giant Chewy Sweetarts are way better, but that's life. I love the two minty candies, so I'm glad they found peaceful coexistence.
