Westport is trying to kill itself

$5 just to enter Westport. What a stupid idea. |
I don't understand how that cuts down on violence. It's just a moneygrab.
|
how is that legal? There are public streets and spaces.

They used to charge $1 or $2 to get in there about 10 years ago. They would also let you drink outside as long as you were within the gates.
|
Meh. I doubt I'll be there much even though I'm living on State Line.
|
How many posts in the comment section in that link are from CP people?

I think it's great. It keeps the underage kids away and the people who are just looking to cause trouble out. $5 isn't bad...maybe a little steeper than it needs to be. Then again, I love being able to have open containers.
|
Nice comments on that site. Racism clearly still dead.
|
This is stupid. People will simply arrive earlier to avoid the fee.

I am just going to take my broke ass down to the plaza to cause trouble for my entertainment.

Raytown laughs at your minor league smackdown.
|
If I had 5 cash on me, maybe, but I'm not running my card and going through the trouble of convincing some drunk slut I'm not like the rest...I mean, just to hit last call at Buzzard Beach.

people won't just wander around if they will have to pay to get in, that cuts down on the number of people and leads to less potential violence. Unless you have money to spend you aren't going down there. open container on the street might increase the potential violence though LMAO |
Be honest though. If you really want to beat a particular person's ass, is $5 all that much money in the grand scheme of things?

C'mon now pretty much everyone in America can scratch up $5 if they're really motivated.
|
have you ever been down to westport? The people who it is keeping out is shit for brain people who can't get or let alone keep 5 dollars.
|
I would not pay an extra $5 to go get a Murray's Ice Cream! The only reason I would go to Westport in the first place.
|
$5 basically is a small commitment. Lots of troublemakers won't want to "roll" through if they all in the group have to pay $5, at least one of them would be like. It's a small commitment in time, and alot of the troublemakers aren't the ones spending an entire night down there.
|
Honestly, I've been out of the past-midnight-on-a-weekend-in-Westport game for a bit.
What's the cause for the recent spike in violence? |
I don't know at 11 PM my Social I.Q. tells me to leave. Took me decades worth of fights to figure out thats when people get drunk and angry. Also it could be buzzard doesn't have popcorn anymore.
|
I know lots of people have been pissed that Dr. Dude pinball has been out of order.

KC could learn a thing or two about bar fighting from their friends to the north in St. Joe.
Seriously, in like five years of living down here I've seen as many bar fights as you would in one weekend after MMA fights at Civic Arena in St. Joe. Step you bar fight game up, KC. Did see a Mexican dude get stabbed in the gut outside of The Point a few summers back, so that was exciting, but really KC registers pretty low on the Roadhouse Scale. |
Stabbings are becoming an occurrence in downtown Springfield.

We hear of violence at Westport and the Plaza, are there a lot of issues at P&L? I rarely go there so don't know, but you don't hear stories coming out like in the other places. I'll just stick to Martini Corner and West 39th. |

Yeah Fri Sat 9-11 all you can drink 15 bucks. Fun times!

Rhythm & Booze has a similar (better) deal - $20 for unlimited beer and wells from 7-11. I tried that once and was in rare form by the time I left, errr...was carried out. |
I don't really have a huge problem with this, but I'd rather them set up "bouncers" and screen people before going in. They'll probably be doing that with this idea, but adding in the $5 entry as well. I think it's a good deal if I can carry my drinks from bar-to-bar ala Power and Light.
|
When I've asked you assholes on places to visit in KC, Westport is always mentioned. Now you're telling me they're having to charge an entry fee to keep violence down?

i dunno why anybody would be opposed to this. 5 dollars is nothing and it keeps the trash out who dont have 5 dollars

Sounds great.

I have no problem with this...though it's not like there has been a bunch of violence just too many people...a lot of it because the area is thriving as are others.
I honestly don't understand and have not experienced this "violence" people talk about in KC aside from the very obvious problem spots out east. It's usually perpetuated by people who don't actually spend time in KC and don't know what they are talking about or at the very least have outdated perceptions of what KC is. |

Westport is fun on the weekdays, but a bit trashy on the weekends
I don't go down there very often anymore, but it seems like it has gotten worse the past couple years in terms of fights and just general douchebaggery I hate Harpos and there is always shit going down by Gusto |

Looks like the city told Westport they can't do this.

When I lived there right down the street from The Pointe there were old people hanging out on benches and going for walks around the block. Soooooo hood. LMAOLMAO https://www.bishopspencerplace.org http://i.imgur.com/LnKnsP8.jpg |

Also....there are drug houses everywhere....everywhere. Things happen...crime happens. That doesn't make some place hood (whatever that actually means) or really unsafe it means it exists in the real world.
|
Here comes Zach the guy who moved out of KC because its too dangerous to tell us how it's not dangerous.

You're a pussy. |

Honest question. Where did you get the idea that I moved away from the area because of danger? I am curious. |

DJ used to live at 44th and Pennsylvania, but he just couldn't handle the hood.
LMAO |
$5.00 to stand on the streets in the heat. Sounds like a tax for stoopid people.

The Point was Plaza pussy heaven when I worked at that Berbiglia on Bellevue in the late 90's. I think it was called something different though, something similar.

The Pointe is hood. It's hood because it attracts people from the hood (east Kansas city). These people from the hood do hood things. Like bust their guns and act ignorant at the Pointe. Just because there's a retirment home nearby doesn't mean shit. There's a church not far from America's Pub. That didn't stop people from wild in. |
Smh, Johnson county needs a nightlife scene. Seems like there isn't a hot spot over here. Boring.
|
Hey guys shit gets REAL west of Bellview. Grab your bullet proof vest because the Plaza is right down the street.
|
Yeah, the New Pointe.
