Would be nice to win today, but it'd be a lie to say the A's didn't have the pitching matchup in their favor today.

KCCHIEFS27 06-28-2015 10:06 AM

I have a feeling that we own this guy today.

Unsmooth-Moment 06-28-2015 10:08 AM

Another Guthrie start. How many more are we going to give him?

We don't exactly have a bunch of healthy pitchers just waiting to step in. Hopefully we will in a week or two.

bsroyals54 06-28-2015 10:28 AM

I'm not ready to give up on Guthrie just yet, I know he capable of giving us a good start

milkman 06-28-2015 11:03 AM

Just following the game threads throughout the season, it seems that Guthrie gives 2 to 3 good starts, then blows up for a game, followed by 2 to 3 good starts.

He's actually fairly consistent with his inconsistency.

Sounds like a #5 starter to me. Truly, as #5's go, he's not that bad.

Exactly. In his last nine starts he has an era of 5.54. If you take out the blow up Yankees game his ERA his 3.5 in that same time span and that still includes his last start in which he gave up 6 runs.

We are 8-6 in his starts this season. We are 5-4 in his last 9 starts. In two of those losses we lost 2-1 and 3-2. There is not really any reason to complain about that out of your number five starter.

C3HIEF3S 06-28-2015 11:55 AM

Cain out of the lineup, tweaked his hammy yesterday.

Medlen to Omaha for his next rehab start. 75 pitches.

@McCulloughStar: All Your Favorite Bands Lineup: Escobar 6, Moustakas 5, Morales DH, Hosmer 3, Perez 2, Gordon 7, Rios 9, Infante 4, Dyson 8, Guthrie 1.

No, no. Every other #5 in baseball has a 3.2 ERA and a 1.1 WHIP and tosses 220 innings a year.

Depends on how much worrying you like to do in general. If you don't feel alive unless you are worrying about something that will spell doom for the Royals, then go for it. If you prefer to wait until there's a significant chance that we have a problem, then it is probably early to worry about Cain's health.

Hootie 06-28-2015 12:23 PM

We usually don't hit guys like Jesse Chavez very well but we'll see

Not that it has bearing on today's game, but this has been an interesting series in that we beat Hahn who had been red hot and homered 2x when he doesn't give up homers, then beat Kazmir at home and Kazmir's era at home is was close to 1. If there was ever a game to hit Chavez well, maybe this is it.

Detroit getting pounded again. If they were smart, they would be sellers at the deadline. That team as we know it, is done for. It's only gonna get worse for them next year, when everyone is a year older.

Price getting hit hard by the ChiSux. 4-0

Maybe J.D. Martinez will share his "new swing" (read: Steroids) with Nick Castellanos and help them pull out of it.

I still cant quite understand why Detroit is so bad, they have great hitters in Cabrera and Martinez. Price and Simon are pitching well enough, Annibal Sanchez has some bad luck. I guess the Verlander injury doesnt help him.

I still think they make a run

Most of the rest of their lineup hasn't done much, their bullpen is terrible, Verlander seems about done. I honestly don't think they have much of a run in them. I don't think their gonna Phillies out or anything but they'll strictly be in play for the 2nd WC, if that.

Verlander and Victor Martinez are stuck in some nice contracts too.. well nice for anyone but the Tigers.

Their offense is VERY reliant on power from Cabrera and JD Martinez.

Anthony Gose has fallen off quite a bit, and Rajai Davis is still just a short-side platoon guy.

Castellanos is horrible. Victor Martinez is not the same. Kinsler is not having a good year. Iglesias has a good BA and is a solid player, but his lack of SB ability limits that impact a little bit.

So if Cabrera and Martinez aren't crushing the ball, they struggle to score.

The bullpen remains a dumpster fire. And the rotation is not covering up mistakes like it could a year ago. Price has been great, but no one else in that rotation has been consistent (Simon and Greene were great early and bad late, Sanchez was awful early and a little better recently).

On another note..I went to a D-Backs game while I was down there. Let me say that has to be one of the shittiest fields I have ever seen. There was more dead grass in RF than live grass. Whoever takes care of the turf there should be fired.

I've only ever been to early season Dbacks games when usually the roof is open and last August with the Royals in town. Grass looked fine in August. Wonder what's up?

bsroyals54 06-28-2015 02:14 PM

gblowfish 06-28-2015 02:15 PM

Hoz has a bad finger, so he's DHing today. Morales can play first OK. Give Hoz a little break. I would have set him out, let Salvy DH and play the backup catcher, but that's just me.

If Butera and Dyson were in the lineup with no Hosmer, this thread wouldn't have gotten past 3 posts without someone saying, "welp Ned with the white flag lineup today".
