Upgrading my phone. Cheap ATT phone to LG G2. Advice?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/LG-G2-Latest...item27f252e421
Looking at upgrading my current phone. Anyone have the LG G2 linked above? Currently I use a AT&T Tribute/Fusion 3... http://www.att.com/esupport/article....B425444&cv=820 and my backup is a Nokia Lumia 635 windows phone... http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/mobile/phone/lumia635/ Both are low end phones. I really like the Windows phone but the lack of google apps blows it for me. I already know this blows away my cheapy phones from last Christmas but is it worth the money to upgrade? |
The G2 is a great phone. Have it now. functions great, looks great, no problems whatsoever with it.

I've been reading that these units have a common issue with a part of the touch screen becoming non functional. Also that you shouldn't upgrade to the ATT version of Lollipop. Have you seen, or anyone for that matter, issues with these?

had 2 g2s. Hated them. Weakest phones of all time. Broke if they got tapped. Junk. trash~
MUCH happier with my motoX |

Just checked on MotoX and it is definitely more than I am willing to pay for a phone. $200 is pretty much my limit and I won't buy a used phone. |
Issues I had where if you drop the damn thing 1 inch it breaks. I have never had any phone breaking problems with any phone I have had except my g2s, I got a tiny crack in one and it killed the whole digitizer, where every other phone just keeps working etc.
Hated em, always down, always broken, always fighting them, even after repair the digitizer went out again. Was way happier with the motorola Razr I came from, and the moto X i went too. |

Lovely phone otherwise for me. The volume and power buttons on the back took some getting used too. No SD card expansion |
Hmmm maybe I should just look at those new Blu phones then
|
DON'T DO IT!!
|
I had the g2 and I had no complaints - my wife is now using the g3 and loves it.
I'm using a nexus 6 Have you looked into the Moto G http://www.motorola.com/us/smartphon...g-2nd-gen.html |

Phone has a tendency to crack screen easy. If you get one get a really good case

And as for what home team is saying, I don't believe it. I've dropped my phone on concrete and asphalt more times than I can count. Phone is still 9/10 cosmetically. Posted via Mobile Device |
My battery charge port is going out as well.

crap, Blu Studio X doesn't have LTE.

Bought a 2 week old G2 off swappa last year and havent had any complaints. Upgraded to Lollipop on AT&T and I have no issues, even the battery life hasnt changed much if at all, a lot of people were complaining that it reduced it but I havent noticed any difference.
|
Well, as much as I would like to upgrade I think I'll just stick to the $50 phones. The idea of paying nearly $200 for a phone and then have the glass break because of some freak thing doesn't appeal to me.
Read a couple reports from people buying the phone, having the glass break because if fell on carpet. They had to pay $125 to get it fixed and within 2 weeks the repaired phone had the glass break again. Kind of disappointed really but its easier to replace the cheap smart phone if something bad happens. I really do like my Windows Phone but it irritates me that they can't get google apps on it. Hell, iPhone gets google apps so why is google holding out on windows? ITs not like they are going to go out of business because of it. |

that said, I have never broken a phone screen in my life but I have also never spent that much money for a phone. |

every phone case I see nearly doubles the size. I would think you need the bigger cases for ultimate protection anyway. EDIT nevermind. Found the case. Sure doesn't seem like it would be very protective as thin as it is. |
This is the case I have on mine because I dont like the whole flip cover thing.
http://www.amazon.com/Diztronic-Matt.../dp/B00FEQ429U Hardly adds any bulk and protects all corners with TPU Then I have a tempered glass screen protector on it (http://glass4m.com/product/glass-m-p...tor-for-lg-g2/). The company offers a nano slim (.2 mm) and a slim (.3 mm), I think I went with slim. My phones been dropped numerous times on carpet and hasn't cracked. |

You didn't know about tempered Fish? Way better than the plastic ones. Look better, feel better, protect better, totally worth it especially if you have an iPhone which cracks more glass than a Jewish wedding

My Coworker has a G2, i think it's a really nice phone. He does all of his business through it. I almost got one, but decided on the Amazon Fire phone since it was only $100.
I've read a lot of bad reviews on the Fire phone but i love it. I have no idea what some of those people were complaining about. The only issue i've had with it thus far is that it doesn't play well with Google Play. |

Hey I have had this G2 for little more than 2 weeks now. I like it so far screen is just right size and very sharp. The battery life is incredible on this phone about 2 solid days before depleted. Then lolipop snuck up like a thief in the night and whittled it down to about a day and half. Its a 32 gig with no micro SD and I dont like that as far as storeing my music library on it. After all the ATT bloat its about 20g. I plan to take care this in the near future. I need a little more time with it. My work phone a lumia 822 with windows 8.1 is so much better an operating system. Things just seem to work right and how it ought to but till Microsoft takes mobile phones serious and that will be never you will have Habib makes clones of apps to run apps popular on Android and Iphone. Habib is a bastard he wants to know everything about you. So until Habib is run out of Dodge its Android for me on personal phone.
Oh its a little disturbing to know the screen is as fragile as a bag of potato chips in the back pocket of a trucker. |

12 g seems like a lot to me. Surely the op system isn't taking all that can it.

The AT&T apps are like a total of around 40MB's. Thats 12 hundredths of a percent of the total storage. There's an operating system called Android taking up around 8GB's of that 32. |

Love my LG G2, will be getting the G4 when I am up for an upgrade in November. And why not get the G3 or the G4? The G3 is out now and the G4 should be out soon.

Yeah if you don't like cases, I think that glass protector is a great idea. Never heard of them either before this thread.

Also, how fast was their shipping? |
Quote:
The G2 screen has a beveled edge. That screen protector only covers the flat part of the screen and not the rounded edges, so it shouldn't be a problem with any case. My case covers up most of the bevel but there's maybe a mm or so of exposed glass between the case and screen protector. I'm not sure if there is a company out there that makes a conformed screen protector. And their shipping, IIRC, was about as fast as getting something from California on standard shipping. I think I got it in about a week, maybe a bit longer depending what day I ordered. I remember being surprised when it arrived, since it's shipped from Hong Kong or some shit, if that means anything. Here's a 100+ page thread of people reviewing/commenting on various tempered glass screen protectors for the G2 you can go through if you feel bored. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...50811&page=111 I chose the one I linked because people were saying good things about it and others who bought a different one were complaining that theirs was too big and the edges weren't on the glass because of the curve. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...450811&page=35 This page has pics of the same kind I bought on the phone with a case. He's got his higher up than mine so the gap on the bottom is slightly larger. |
Dry. These are maybe the easiest screen protector to install of them all. Simply pull a tab removing the sticky backing. Align the bottom then set it and run finger down center and push out to edges. Any bubbles and there are few you push out to side with thumb or credit card. Its not soft and pliable so you can actually hold the edge because its stiff and makes easier. I get mine from xtremeguard when I see a 90% off on Slickdeals.net which is often. They mail out and abut three business days through USPS. I got 3 for like 12 bucks 2 weeks or so ago seem very good quality.

I've seen people make hinges with tape, though. They'll put the screen protector on the phone peel side down, line up the screen protector, and take a couple pieces of tape and tape the screen protector and the phone to where the screen protector wont move. Then they'll flip the screen protector back, peel the sticker off, and then flip it back on the phone, and remove the tape. Seemed like an easier way to get it lined up perfectly. |

Things I like about the G3 vs the G2 is the focus on the camera, removable battery, and expandable storage. One thing I really don't like about the G3 is that they went back to the speaker being on the back of the phone. Rather they have kept it on the bottom, or better yet on the front. The rest of it is a gimmick, imo. The higher res screen is a joke. I can zoom in max value on text on 1080p with this 5.2" screen and not see a single stair step. How you can get better is beyond me. The other stuff like style is subjective. |
