At what point does the NFL's production of the draft make it unwatchable?

It's getting pretty damn close, isn't it?

Fire Me Boy! 05-02-2015 08:02 AM

Already there.

buddha 05-02-2015 08:03 AM

Yep...already there. Holding up the announcement of picks that have been made after the first round is ridiculous. Get on with it!

George Liquor 05-02-2015 08:03 AM

I haven't watched the last two or three.

I'll tune in for KC's first round pick, but that's about it

milkman 05-02-2015 08:04 AM

All I want is to hear the selection, a couple of video clips with comments, then move the **** on.

KCUnited 05-02-2015 08:05 AM

Like Thursday Nights it's already there.

milkman 05-02-2015 08:05 AM

Watching NFL Network, and they were talking about how they are going to be doing even more today.

They are going to be all over the place to make an even bigger production.

I started Thursday night's round 1 about 90 minutes late on the DVR and fast forwarded most of it. Same thing last night for Round 2. Probably won't watch any today.

Pasta Little Brioni 05-02-2015 08:09 AM

Barely made it to the Chiefs first pick. Haven't watched since. It was that sickening.

chiefzilla1501 05-02-2015 08:11 AM

I guess the three day thing works. We go to a bar on Thursday nights and drink ourselves silly.

But I still miss having the first round on Saturday. We used to wake up real early, fire up the smokers for an all day bbq, and day drink to the draft.

thabear04 05-02-2015 08:13 AM

Run the picks on iPads or computers **** the cards takes to damn long.

Yup miss those days.

prhom 05-02-2015 08:14 AM

This year seems much worse, and ESPN was no better. It takes the fun out of it when they are three picks behind because they are waiting for some slapdick former player to announce the picks.

kcchiefsus 05-02-2015 08:23 AM

Like when 4 picks happened in less than 5 minutes and then they kept the Cowboys pick on the clock for what seemed like 10 minutes?

The ****ing masturbation fest when they took Gregory was unbearable to watch.

Dunerdr 05-02-2015 08:27 AM

I only watched the first round and was sick of it. If it was on the weekend I'd be more apt to watch it.

loochy 05-02-2015 08:35 AM

Now.

I had it on the radio as background noise. There is no way that I'd just sit there and watch that.

BossChief 05-02-2015 08:37 AM

I was planning on watching it all day today, but I'm gonna go enjoy the day with the kids at the lake instead.

They don't say anything about the Chiefs picks, anyway.

notorious 05-02-2015 08:37 AM

I didn't know they were artificially delaying the announcements so they could jerk off the media darlings.

That's ****ing bush league.

stevieray 05-02-2015 08:39 AM

Hammock Parties 05-02-2015 08:48 AM

Putting it in prime time was the worst ****ing decision ever.

It should have remained an all day Saturday and Sunday event.

Bugeater 05-02-2015 08:50 AM

I haven't watched it since they moved it from Saturday/Sunday

Otter 05-02-2015 08:52 AM

Crossed that line already. I watched a total of about 5 minutes on ESPN then put on the hockey playoffs and looked up the picks on the internet.

I'll be sick of the NFL by week 3 again with the exception of fantasy.

FML 05-02-2015 08:52 AM

dragging it on for three days is ridiculous

they need to go back to the two day format.

Round 1-2 Day 1, Rounds 3-7 Day 2

Yep. Everything is a "Production" now. Ratings, ratings, ratings !!! To your point about idol worship as you well know the good book say's in the last days "men will be worshipping themselves" !!!

I can only tolerate Mayock's lisp for so long but I give him credit for doing his homework on every kid and especially his due diligence in getting feedback from scouts.

There is less and less variety in the teams. It feels stale.

ChiefsCountry 05-02-2015 08:58 AM

The coverage yesterday was horrible. Mainly due to them having every ****ing team have somebody announce their pick. It created a back jam after picks got sent it. I know they are trying to make a dog and pony show for casual fans but its backfired.

OMG THIS! I ****ing hated that.

After the 1st round, they should just display the player drafted and all the info on a large screen and be done with it.

Why Not? 05-02-2015 09:07 AM

Hauled ass through the first round. Watched a few minutes of the 2nd and deleted it almost immediately. I'll read about the Chiefs picks later.

I agree. Rule changes are ruining it for me. The only tackling rules that make sense is the helmet to helmet and o-lineman engagement. Horse collar is BS and I don't care how many incidents or the science on the knee they bring up about it. Tackling is tackling. How many knee injuries occur because of tackling below the waist ??? See my point about horse collar rule ?? The next rule change will be that the defense can't tackle below the waist once the runner gets to the second level. You watch it's coming. Don't want to hijack from the thread my bad but it hit a sore spot for me.

I didn't mind the NFL network coverage that much. At least they focus on the picks and player eval instead of the side stories.

There were some really powerful moments, I will say that. Butkus was great. Jim Kelly moment was awesome. Little girl that was a bone cancer survivor was awesome. Limit it to that instead of bringing nobody retired players to the stage.

Frosty 05-02-2015 09:11 AM

Holding up the picks allows more time for the networks to run commercials. It's pretty much unbearable today. I only have it on now to follow along with CP.

BlackOp 05-02-2015 09:11 AM

The whole NFL marketing campaign is geared to either 12 year olds...or the most homogenous, corporate drones on the planet. It's like Disney mated with McDonalds..

I don't know why, but the minute I figured this out I was done watching. Moved to browsing the internet with espn minimized but sounding off at each pick. Totally lost interest in something that was already annoying the shit out of me.

They should just announce the draft as it happens with a few seconds of info about the player and run their bullshit jerk off session about each "special" pick on another program. They already do this for some games with there coaches perspective, or whatever the hell it's called.

The commercials every two ****ing picks had the what the **** meter pegged as well. The whole product was totally shit.

Zebedee DuBois 05-02-2015 09:15 AM

I would be surprised if I had logged in 15 minutes total to the whole thing - mostly to catch up on the ticker.

Cutting to commercial break right as the Chiefs pick has to be some sort of running gag. An ESPN tradition.

DaFace 05-02-2015 09:41 AM

Back when they used to do it on Saturdays and Sundays, I would look forward to draft parties - getting together with people and generally having a good time while the draft was on in the background.

When the moved it to Thursday, suddenly draft parties didn't make sense anymore, so now it's a much more solitary affair.

Add tons of commercials on top of that and a general lack of real action to follow, and I mostly just follow along with the draft tracker online and tune in when the Chiefs are up to something.

It's kind of sad, really.

They do it on the NFL channel as well. I didn't watch it this year, but my buddy did (He's reeruned half the year cuz he's a Bronco fan) did. I told him to watch for that this year. He started laughing and called me a " BS Chiefs Fan conspiracy theorist." THEN, when IT HAPPENED, he informed me that it also happened on the NFL Channel, cuz he switched to see if they were covering the pick. He took it back and said last year might have been a coincidence but I called it this year and it happened. I told him he has NO IDEA what goes on without an Elway or Manning on your team...

By trying to "find" a "story" they create so much "dead air time" afterwards that it's hard to cover. You know the producer is in their ears - shit, Gruden even talks to them at times. Voices man, voices...

Guarantee you if the Patriots, Jets, Cowboys, Broncos, Colts, Giants, and Eagles had consecutive picks, they would hold any commercial breaks until each and every one of those picks were in.

No joke, the NFL network literally cut to two straight commercial breaks after the Conley pick. Two. They cut to the studio, realized the Cleveland pick wasn't announced yet, and cut to commercial within a few seconds. They spent about 30 seconds talking about Conley.

KCTitus 05-02-2015 10:20 AM

Watched ESPN on Thursday night, NFLN last night...I think last night was worse in total just because the TV coverage was so far behind the picks. In the end, I blame the NFL for purposefully dragging it out with trotting out no names to announce the pick (save for Kelly).

Did it really need to be done for every single pick? Every? Pick? OMG...

The NFL is so arrogant they take something that was cool, crank it to eleven and just absolutely run it into the ground until it becomes absolutely annoying.

Oh, and Chiefs picks = commercial time. I do think the networks are doing it on purpose.

Sully 05-02-2015 10:23 AM

Every single move they've made over the past 5-10 years has made it a worse experience.
I get that the NFL wants to make itself more accessible to the regular guy. But the draft is for nut jobs like us. Don't pretty it up. Don't over produce it. Picks, then video and breakdown, and the OCCASIONAL interview. They are going to lose all their viewers when twitter tells me the pick 10 minutes prior.

Vegas failed when they tried to make it for families. Take a hint.

Next they will start ****ing up the combine.
