Per Schefter: Chiefs tag Houston
More to come...
|
Now gut the cap and get him a new deal.
|
hmm
|
Kind of odd they didn't talk to the last minute with him like they did Bowe.

Why would he? This will be his only chance to skip camp.
I don't expect him to sign it till week 3 of preseason |
Going to go through the same shit next offseason with Poe because Dorsey is incapable of getting shit done.

Not much to see here, of course we tagged him.

As literally one of the worst franchises in the NFL over the last 40+ years, I'm always shocked and surprised when our guys don't bend over backwards to give us hometown discounts.

I'm pretty happy with how it worked out, and will be even more happy when we get the extra picks. |
Fully expect Poe to get the 5th year option

Like I said, Chiefs don't like talent. That's why we've always been mediocre.

He will get signed long term. This just buys them more time

Well bye bye Hudson hello Kush. That what I see this means. I was hope they could get a deal done on Houston and tag Hudson.

You guys crack me up !
Dorsey suck / OK let's bring Pioli back. Alex Smith was a mistake / Ok we should have kept Cassel and drafted Geno. If only Romeo was still here. we'd have already crashed 3 or 4 planes into Arrowhead by now trying to drag all the banners around. |
Chiefs have to slice 6.5 mil by March 10 in order to get Houston under contract

Alright, Chicken Littles. Is this that hard to understand? It's all posturing.
Houston's agent is not going to let him sign anything now. His leverage is at its greatest just before or during training camp. Of course the Chiefs tagged him. Of course he's going to delay signing it. He may participate in offseason activities anyway or he may not. It's all posturing. He will be in uniform this year, they aren't going to let the most talented player on defense sit a year or just walk away. Pioli is gone. If they paid Bowe, they are surely not going to let someone who's actually integral to the team's fortunes get away. |

There is no reason to pay Rodney Hudson top five money, let alone make him the highest paid center. He's very good, but that's just an utterly replaceable position.
It's the middle linebacker of the offense. Important, sure, but most of the time you find a starter in the second round or below. Elite pass rusher, however... Add to it that Justin Houston gave us monstrous production while playing on a third rounder salary. Chiefs will have to break the bank. Period. |
You know it is hilarious. We all expected this.
But all the sudden the same group of haters are all offended and shit. You guys are really good for a laugh. You are some ridiculous people. |

Priority 2) Hudson Priority 3) Anyone else... |

2015 we will have like 3 Pioli draft picks as contributors on the WHOLE TEAM
4 years and 3 picks left on the roster that make any impact for the franchise. That is sad. |
He's filing grievances and holding out until Week 10. **** John Dorsey.
|
Quote:
At this point Dorsey (in the draft) has been even worse... |

Don't understand why you all that hate everything that the Chiefs have done and continue to do keep coming back. Are you sure you aren't a bunch of women. Just wanting and looking for any reason to bitch and be all ****ing dramatic. |

**** him if he does. Cost himself millions.

He didn't with Bowe. Smith is a coin toss - depends on who you ask. |
Good move. It's better then losing him to another team.

Non-Exclusive Tag
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>I can confirm the <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Chiefs?src=hash">#Chiefs</a> designated the non-exclusive franchise tag on LB Justin Houston, per source. <a href="https://twitter.com/ProFootballTalk">@ProFootballTalk</a> reported it first.</p>— Herbie Teope (@HerbieTeope) <a href="https://twitter.com/HerbieTeope/status/572424904626327552">March 2, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> |
Before everyone goes ape shit, what if it turns out that he wants Watt money?

We don't know the details, that's all I'm saying.
What we do know is that Dorsey could have gave him less a year ago and we would have him wrapped up for the next 3-4 years. Major mistake. |

Apparently i am the only person on this board that thinks this. DE >> LB even if the sacks numbers are the same, the positional value just isn't Watt and even Hali's position are just worth more than Houston's let the outrage begin ..........again  |

Just football business at this point. Ugly for the fans, but that's the deal. |
Quote:
So many of you all see that $100M total number and loose the power of your brain. Did you know that $46M of Watts contract is at the end and it is not guaranteed. But after this one year Watt will be costing them between 12 and 13M against the annual cap. |
Quote:
Hali is an OLB. We run a 3-4. A 3-4 DE is NOWHERE near as valuable as a 3-4 OLB. I can't believe you're making this argument... |
Quote:
Houston just came off one of the best pass rushing performances in NFL HISTORY. |
Quote:
That's probably the answer nobody wants to hear. |
Quote:
playing the name game doesn't change that |

He's not taking a penny less than he could take anywhere else (and state tax must be included in that equation.) |

We all knew that Houston is a stud. It should have been taken care of. |

Actually, if he's asking for just outrageous money (and I mean outrageous), I'd probably take the two draft picks and let someone else pay said monies. The ONLY position I'd pay outrageous money to would be QB. I can see it now, we sign Houston to outrageous $$$ and he takes an ACL in London. And why would I expect this? Because....(you know the rest). :banghead: |
Is this Donavan or Dorsey that negotiates contracts?

Matthews is the highest paid 3-4 OLB making $13.2 million yr. Watt's avg yearly income is $16.6 million. Robert Quinn's is $14.25 avg.
I would give Houston a $15.5 million avg yearly salary and it give him $20 million gauranteed. I like how Houston set up Watt's contract and I hope we copy it. Watt is making $21.96 million this year, BUT his remaining years are as follows: '16-$12.5 million '17-$12.5 million '18-$13 million '19-$13 million '20-$15 million '21-$17.5 million 4 years after his large cap number for the 2015 season he's making less than Clay Mathhews avg. It's worth paying this guy one year of franchise QB money when you look at those circumstances. |
