What sandwhich shop chain do you turn to when the mood hits?

Subway
Quiznos
Blimpies
Firehouse Subs
McAlisters Deli
Charleys
Jasons Deli
Einstien Bros
Jersey Mikes
Schlotzsky’s
Jimmy Johns
Panera Bread

Other....

Who do ya go with? What sammy do you roll with?

mikeyis4dcats. 06-12-2014 04:10 PM

Schlotzskys

Stewie 06-12-2014 04:13 PM

Planet Sub.

I can't do it very often. Who knew a simple sub sandwich could have so many calories? I guess that's why they're so awesome.

AndChiefs 06-12-2014 04:13 PM

Whatever is farthest away from subway.

Pepe Silvia 06-12-2014 04:13 PM

If I don't hit up any local Italian deli's I'll stop by Jimmy Johns.

Reaper16 06-12-2014 04:27 PM

Did you know that vBulletin allows you to make a poll?

Hoover 06-12-2014 04:27 PM

None of that crap.

When I want a sandwich, I go to the Manhattan Deli on ingersol in Des Moines or B&B Grocery on the East Side.

Chief Roundup 06-12-2014 04:31 PM

Subway it is the only one around where I live.

BWillie 06-12-2014 04:32 PM

None of the above. As I just like my sammiches wiff bread and meat, no sauce, mayonnaise or any of that, it's difficult for me to justify buying a sandwich away from home, when I can just as easily make it myself.

blaise 06-12-2014 04:35 PM

For chains I prefer Jason's Deli. I think they make pretty good sandwiches. But a sandwich shop is different than a sub shop, really.

If you live in the northeast a great chain sub is at Wegmans. Their subs are copied from Dibella's Subs in Rochester.

BigMeatballDave 06-12-2014 04:35 PM

Being on the road, unfortunately it's Subway.

Jimmy Johns is my favorite.

Discuss Thrower 06-12-2014 04:36 PM

Had firehouse last night for the second time.

Disappointed, though they aren't ****ing around with their 12 inch specialty subs.

Love Jersey Mikes hot subs.

The one near me is like $10 for the footlong sub. Seems a little high.

KCUnited 06-12-2014 04:45 PM

I thought about trying Firehouse until they ran that spot in KC about their "slow smoked Texas brisket" sandwich. I don't expect them to change up a commercial just for an individual market, but it was enough for me to be like **** you.

Rain Man 06-12-2014 04:46 PM

I don't understand why people eat at sandwich shops. If I'm going to eat at home and don't want to go to any work, I make a sandwich. I go to restaurants for stuff that I can't make it home in under thirty seconds.

Gravedigger 06-12-2014 04:47 PM

Firehouse is the shit. I get the Turkey Bacon Ranch, but the Meatball and Brisket are damn good too. I used to be a Goodcents guy, but Firehouse wins hands down.

You can't make a reuben in 30 seconds.

I love a good sandwich shop.

Buying the ingredients to make a great sub is costly.

jersey mikes is pretty bomb. we dont got dem ova hur tho.....i hit goodcents...always fresh...always solid

Right, i think this is why most sandwhich shops started to offer hot subs now. hot meat, toasted buns, etc....

BucEyedPea 06-12-2014 04:50 PM

Panera but I only order soup or salad because I can't eat wheat. Love Panera.

Only subway if I can bring it home and put on my own allergy-free bread.

Never heard of a bread allergy. Is it wheat, flour, maybe yeast?

You must be fast with a knife. Slicing tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, and all that stuff and making the fresh roll or hoagie and the meats, man you must have a huge selection on tap all the time. :D

I will occasionally hit up a local shop that makes a nice gluten free sandwich, though.

Planet Sub.
Jimmy John's is whole new levels of SUCK!

Fire Me Boy! 06-12-2014 05:27 PM

I'm not a sandwich guy. The only sandwich I really like are meatball subs, but even then I have to be in the right mood.

If I have to, Firehouse is good. But my meatball subs are better than any of them.

icepick64 06-12-2014 05:35 PM

Publix

Pasta Little Brioni 06-12-2014 05:36 PM

Just had a subway and it came out the other end 4 seconds after the last bite. No wonder Jared is skinny as ****.

Firehouse Subs

pastrami and corned beef; provolone, thousand Island dressing, steamed sammich.
I think it's called the New York steamer. fantastic.

CoMoChief 06-12-2014 07:05 PM

Jason's Deli
Panera
Planet Sub
McAlister's
Mr.Goodcents

everything else is crap IMO.

Mr_Tomahawk 06-12-2014 07:07 PM

Planet Sub - Buffalo Sandwich with Bleu Cheese. This is a treat.

Subway - close to work, usually try to get their $5 special

JJ - when I am on the go. Usually get the hunters club.

Bowser 06-12-2014 07:08 PM

Planet Sub or Goodcents. Haven't tried the Firehouse yet.

Goodcents has some surprisingly good Broccoli and Cheese soup, if that's more of your thing. Yummy stuff.

KCwolf 06-12-2014 07:14 PM

No idea if it's a chain ... but Portland has 2 sub shops named Potbelly's and WOW ... Extremely Tasty. All toasted and all $$

This.

We have a local joint called Zingerman's which people go crazy for even the POTUS has eaten there. I just don't understand why people would pay upwards of $10 or more for a cold cut sammy. Zingerman's was even featured in the "5-year engagement" with Emily Blunt and Jason Segel. Folks give me the stink eye when I say it overrated.

Buehler445 06-12-2014 07:23 PM

I'm a goodcents fan. I'd like to try some of the restaurants listed here.

Sfeihc 06-12-2014 07:25 PM

On a side note about Jared, I met him on the street before the Colts smoked the CHIEFS in the Wild Card the season Herm ran LJ into the ground. On a side note to the side note I ran into the Manning family(Peyton, wife, Archie, Olivia) coming out of St. Elmo's after the game. I was still wearing my Hali jersey and offered them my congrats. I took the high road.

Find a new Sub Shop ... I hate U ...

Simply Red 06-12-2014 07:36 PM

Jimmy Johns doesn't carry S&P packets - it's reeruned - some folks like to season their sandwiches.

Anyway - basically any of those except Subway - but I'll take Subway before I don't eat. I just never ELECT to go there.

Simply Red 06-12-2014 07:37 PM

I've been to all but Charley's.

you can get a big'ol sammich chips and a drink at Firehouse for like $7-8. thereabouts. I think it's priced just right.

He's a huge food snob - I get that to a degree - but I also like the sloppy shit food too - so YES I CAN be snobby - but I have a disgusting side that'll plate 6 White Castles or Krystals. I can kick it up around the right company and certainly when I have to.

BigMeatballDave 06-12-2014 07:43 PM

People. Think about what it would cost to make a sub at any one of these places if you bought the ingredients at a grocery store. $10 is not unreasonable.

Simply Red 06-12-2014 07:46 PM

YEARS ago there used to be a deli in Blue Springs called 'Country Deli' - they served smoked slice turkey sandwiches on these really nice Kaisers w/ Poppy or Onion. They melted a thick slice of swiss (I think cheese slice width is crucial here) and IIRC they dressed it w/ mayo, mustard shaved lettuce and slivered onions - For some reason they didn't make it - But the sandwiches they served in that standard sheet of wax paper and a large garlic pickle - were about the best sammys I've eaten, ever.

Pretty sure - Jennifer (my sister) went to High School w/ the owner's son.

Sure-Oz 06-12-2014 07:48 PM

KC Area, it's usually Lenny's subs in Lenexa or Mr. Goodcents

In the SD area you have to try Hungry Bears subs, excellent

Cannibal 06-12-2014 07:49 PM

How an authentic New York deli sandwich? I haven't had one, but want to try one. If I ever take trip to New York I'll be stopping at the famous delis and pizzerias.

I find myself gravitating towards Mr. Goodcents; but your experience will depend entirely on the franchisee. Some shave their meat and cheese so thin you could read through it to save an extra buck. That's annoying.

Jimmy John's is a decent option. Those are the two closest chains to me; and the ones I frequent the most.

I had a corned beef on rye at the Stage deli in manhatten that might be the best sandwich I have ever eaten. Unfortunately they closed 2years ago so maybe it wasn't as good as I thought and I was just that hungry.

Try Mier's Deli in Golden. Great food and great prices. Best sandwich shop I have ever been to. The bad part is they are only open for four or five hours a day and closed on weekends.
