New story it seems

L.A. Chieffan 04-15-2014 11:17 PM

Pretty good actually, Billy Bob kills it

Shaid 04-15-2014 11:22 PM

Hate how they make people talk on that show. I've yet to hear someone from Fargo talk like that.

L.A. Chieffan 04-15-2014 11:25 PM

Well I was watching the local broadcast of the Brewers game the other day and they ALL had that accent so they definitely have it in Wisconsin

Pasta Little Brioni 04-15-2014 11:31 PM

Will watch again

Baby Lee 04-15-2014 11:35 PM

Person of Interest was too amazing to not watch first. Will see soon.

Well, I'm from the western part of the state and have lived in Bismarck for 15 years, never heard it. I have heard some people in Minnesota talk like that so maybe it's a border thing.

Pitt Gorilla 04-15-2014 11:44 PM

Pretty awesome. Nice fill-in for Justified.

The show is set in Minnesota

Billy Bob was ****ing great. I liked the whole thing overall. New story but with some of the same undertones. Will keep watching.

yeah, I was glad I watched poi. They had a great one tonight, with about ten minutes of oh shit to end it. Loved seeing their decision play out. The next one should be great. Whenever the ****ers decide to air it.

Dvr'd Fargo. Reviews were too good not to.

Buehler445 04-16-2014 04:37 AM

Shit. I missed it. Will they re-air it?

Zebedee DuBois 04-16-2014 05:18 AM

I have definitely heard that accent from people I work with (over the phone) in Wisconson, you betcha. Not all residents have it to the same degree.

The pacing was a little slow in the beginning - but that is probably to be expected in initial episodes. When we don't know the characters yet, those 'meaningful stares' don't carry the meaning to the audience. It was enjoyable - I will tune in again next week.

Deberg_1990 04-16-2014 06:19 AM

Haven't seen it yet....but I don't get it? All new story with the same characters and setting? Or different characters?

jwazzie 04-16-2014 06:58 AM

Loved it! Great start and for me I hope this is only a 10 episode series. Short for full of life. Awesome!

Similar in ways, but very different overall.

Still hoping for a "Shep I was banging that broad" cameo ;)

FishingRod 04-16-2014 08:39 AM

Billy Bob was great. Will give this show a shot

bevischief 04-16-2014 10:09 AM

I watched and was laughing almost the entire time.

lcarus 04-16-2014 02:48 PM

I'll be honest. I thought the movie Fargo was a bit overrated. I've only seen it once and it was a long time ago, so obviously if I see it again I might love it. That's what happened with The Big Lebowski. Saw it in 1999. Didn't get it. Saw it a few years later and now it's possibly my favorite movie.

As far as this show, I'm gonna check it out. I like Martin Freeman a lot but it's so weird seeing him do a northern American accent when I'm so used to his real accent.

keg in kc 04-16-2014 04:21 PM

I never liked the movie.

The show started slowly, but I like it so far, about an hour in.

MahiMike 04-16-2014 05:10 PM

Watching it again. Billy Bob is fantastic. Those square head accents are hilarious.

The Coen brothers are probably the most rewatch rewarded directors in all of film. There are some [no country, o' brother, raising AZ] that I loved right away, but there isn't one of theirs I didn't come to adore. They set such a mood in each film, that they go up against expectations on first viewing, but once you are accustomed to the rhythms, everything SINGS.

As for the TV show, haven't seen a 4 color pen in 20 years.

And what an effing class, go to imdb to see the full cast. It has everyone.

Doing his Russell Bell( Pushing Tin) interpretation of the character.

mr. tegu 04-17-2014 08:45 PM

I loved his scene in the car at the end.

Red Brooklyn 04-18-2014 10:39 AM

Really enjoyed it. It felt a little Coen lite at times or like they were doing their best approximation of a Coen Brother's impression, but only at times. It only took me out a few times, mostly when they tried to recreate or directly quote the film.

Also enjoyed the little nods to other Coen films, like White Russians being on the specials board. Nice touch. A little cloying maybe, but I appreciated it.

The acting is stellar. The tone is right. I laughed a lot. I'll definitely keep watching.

And I adore the film. I watch it ever year during the first big snow fall or winter storm.

jwazzie 04-23-2014 11:40 AM

Anybody else watched last night? I really enjoyed all the ties that are coming along with the story. Billy Bob Thornton better be up for an Emmy! Very good show!

mr. tegu 04-23-2014 12:16 PM

I enjoyed last nights episode. I have no familiarity with the story at all so it is really interesting watching to see how all these things are going to connect in some way.

chiefs1111 04-23-2014 12:36 PM

Great show so far. There have been quite a few good new shows this season

Same setting, different characters, same darkly comedic style.

texaschiefsfan 04-26-2014 04:07 PM

You know you have a great part is when you are the bad guy and you take over every scene you are in (think Mags Bennett Season 2 of Justified). I just love that you think what some of the connections are but you know something will happen to change your thought process.

Also love Hess' two sons. They are golden as well!

mr. tegu 04-30-2014 10:05 AM

Mojo Rising 05-01-2014 12:22 AM

Great show so far. Is Billy Bob signed on for 7 years for the duration of the series? Or, is it a True Detective style of rotating stars?

My only gripe is that for a professional killer he makes a lot of mistakes. After crashing the car and leaving it behind with blood on the steering wheel at the scene of a kidnapping turned murder you show up at a hospital?

Runs a stop signs after killing a police chief of a nearby town in another victim of the same crimes car?

Either the name of the show will need to change or Billy Bob will not be long for the area.

Baby Lee 05-07-2014 06:04 AM

Billy Bob out Verbals Verbal Kent.

But you want to talk about disappearing into a role, I still wouldn't have noticed that Glenn 'Dennis' Howerton was the fake tan yoga dude if an article hadn't pointed it out.

jwazzie 05-09-2014 01:46 PM

This show needs more love. Great writing, the acting is superb, and it just keeps getting better every week. Billy Bob for the Emmy win (sorry Matthew Mac!).

jwazzie 05-13-2014 10:42 AM

Tonight. Just an FYI.

Pasta Little Brioni 05-13-2014 12:44 PM

Fargo night!

Mojo Rising 05-13-2014 10:47 PM

I might be off but I noticed a few inconsistencies tonight.

Flat screens in the van when he was buying the scanners from the fence in 86

LED light on the drill when the 1st screw was drilled when the workout guy was locked in the closet

The chick cop didnt turn off the water source before she unscrewed the water line when inspecting the back of the washer

Annoying but not game breakers.

The Chief Of Police will soon become Saul for the BBB spinoff so I expect he and BBT die in a shootout and we get a new villian for next season.

I like the show though.

jwazzie 05-14-2014 07:37 AM

This is taking place in 2006. It said it on the whiteboard in the chiefs office when they were talking about the storm. I also thought about the water source but like you said, not a game changer.

I am also ready for the grocery king to have a heart attack with all the sweating he is doing.

The Colin Hanks/Neighbor scene was one of the best so far.

Baby Lee 05-21-2014 02:18 AM

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buridan's_ass

Quote:

Buridan's ass is an illustration of a paradox in philosophy in the conception of free will.

It refers to a hypothetical situation wherein an ass that is equally hungry and thirsty is placed precisely midway between a stack of hay and a pail of water. Since the paradox assumes the ass will always go to whichever is closer, it will die of both hunger and thirst since it cannot make any rational decision to choose one over the other

KC_Connection 05-21-2014 04:38 AM

That was quite the episode.

mr. tegu 05-21-2014 09:07 AM

Good stuff.

Dr. Gigglepants 05-22-2014 06:43 AM

How about how easy everything is for Lorne? Like when he was sloppily pulling off the "pranks" against cosmopolis? He just walks up to his house and kills his dog, switches his pills, manages to get the blood in the hot water heater? Has the grocery store owner never heard of a security camera? Or when the cops on the scanner at the end of the last episode wrote off the shooting incident as "the weirdest suicide by cop." The guy was freaking duct taped to a piece of exercie equipment with a shotgun duct taped to his hands...you couldn't even do that to yourself if you tried...are we just supposed to believe every LEO in that state is worthless except for Molly?

Dr. Gigglepants 05-22-2014 06:44 AM

It's a great show and I'm enjoying lesters spiral into the abyss, but damn, they're asking for a lot of suspended belief already.

MahiMike 05-22-2014 06:49 AM

That episode started out slow but then built up to rival the very first episode. That dude from 'Always Sunny' died a horrible - but funny - death.

The idiot 'Postman wannabe' has no business holding a gun.

MahiMike 05-22-2014 06:53 AM

And speaking of FX, is there any reason to even have HBO?

Justified
Fargo
The Americans
Archer
Always Sunny
etc., etc.

I like the Americans as well.

If you have Directv I think that Deadwood is available for On Demand (requires HBO subscription.) I just re-watched it. Very good!

mr. tegu 05-28-2014 03:01 PM

Another great episode!

Zebedee DuBois 05-28-2014 04:15 PM

Fish sucked up (through the hole in the ice they cut the episode before?) by a tornado and dropped on the highway at the same time as they are having a white-out blizzard in town?

Someone who's lived in LA their whole life wrote that episode.

What was BBT's body count last night in Fargo? How can this still be in the hands of local cops?

I love quirky! I do! but they're going past quirky to unpossible.

Pitt Gorilla 05-28-2014 11:12 PM

Loved the episode, but wasn't sure why the FBI guys were so incompetent.
