Richard Petty to Danica Patrick -- I ACCEPT THE CHALLENGE ... Let's Race!

Probably already posted so Who do you think would win and why.
http://www.tmz.com/2014/02/21/richar...nge-lets-race/

My Take
Richard Petty was the product of the best equipment to work with in his era, he also got alot of his wins at some questionable tracks...
Remember the last wreck Petty had that basically ended his career? The one at one of the road tracks?

Petty would suck if he was a driver in this era because he is a one foot driver, You have to be a two foot driver to compete in Nascar now, Danica would eat his lunch..

She is not a great driver but she is as good as any of the lower tier drivers in Nascar

Chief_For_Life58 02-23-2014 09:53 AM

raiders suck

Dylan 02-23-2014 09:55 AM

Richard Petty is about a 100 years old - No?

I never thought I'd get to see Richard Petty drive in a competitive event. (I know this is stretching that term, but play along.) I hope they race at Rockingham.

That's the only track Kyle could race at well, He also had almost unlimited access to it to practice.

I don't think Petty could even beat her at the Rock

I'd say she'd win just because she's competed recently. Reaction time slows down when you reach 100 years old. That being said I'd root for Richard. Went with my dad his driving school when I was a kid. It was badass. He was there on e for like two minutes handed everyone an autograph and told em good luck.

It would be good publicity for the track, which is all I want.

You have to go slow to go fast in Nascar now which means you actually brake and gas at the same time... Petty could not do that.

No, but I went by while visiting my sister in NC, around when they reopened the track. I heard they were having money problems, and this could be an outside-the-box aid.

Yea that has been pretty much the case since they pulled out of that track...

I used to Deer hunt in a place called Ellerbee NC (Famous because Andre the Giant lived there and Benny Parsons) and I could hear them run saturday races from my deer stand.

I'm not a hater or anything, but at this point isn't Danica a known quantity? Never won a nascar race, only won an indy race once... it would seem that if she weren't female she'd still be a no-name driver in the IRL

She is in Nascar because she is cute and has a BIG Sponsor.... You are correct...

There are ghost tracks up and down that part of the country. North Wilkesboro, Asheville, Caraway...

You live in a pretty good place - I wouldn't mind moving to the Carolinas if the opportunity presented itself. I'd have two homes in my dream scenario - one along the beach in southern SC, and one nestled in the mountains of western NC.

I don't follow Nascar at all but when she switched over it seemed like it was a sponsor/cash grab rather than something that was good for her on track career.

Well she does have to Qualify for the races too, so she does have some talent at driving and has won a pole... You have to be fearless to qualify 1st at a Nascar track.

LMAO

Danica is wildly popular with the girls.

Although Danica is learning on the job, give her credit for switching from open wheel to stock car. It is not easy to race when 42 other cars are banging on your doors and fenders, trying to get you loose.

I wish her the best. Now, if only her boyfriend would stop wiping her out on the track...

SAUTO 02-23-2014 11:01 AM

I think they should race the petty era cars to make it more fair...

he's old and she isn't used to those cars.

Which is what he said about her. She's great at driving when there's nobody else on the track, but she's a terrible racer. She can't handle her shit when there are other cars around.

Martinsville, NASCAR's shortest track record book:

Most Wins 15 Richard Petty
Most Top 5s 30 Richard Petty
Most Top 10s 37 Richard Petty
Most Starts 67 Richard Petty
Most Poles 8 Darrell Waltrip
Most Laps Completed 27891 Richard Petty
Most Laps Led 3784 Cale Yarborough
Best Avg. Start* 3.1 Fonty Flock
Best Avg. Finish* 3.8 Dick Hutcherson
Best Avg. Finish among active drivers Jimmie Johnson

My work highway car is a little Cobalt 5 speed. In town I use my right foot to brake because I'm usually going to have to step on the clutch. I pop the brake on the highway though to take off the cruise. My truck is where I almost always use my left foot but that's an automatic.

You are both right. Yes Petty damn sure could drive and I am sure he would have adapted. He did however greatly benefit from often driving vastly superior equipment. The playing field has been leveled and it is much more competitive now. I do agree with his assessment of Patrick. She is nothing more than a gimmick that brings in sponsor dollars. She is willing to appear in commercials showing skin like a good little pinup girl. As far as the showdown it is a joke and a two car race would most likely be incredibly boring. They have one thing in common neither should be behind the wheel of a stock car. One is too old and the other lacks talent~

It wasn't even close back then when it came to equipment.... Maurice had the money and the parts and it was alot easier to cheat then too.

I agree he probably could have adapted

Unfortunately, F1 has gone "green" and this year the races will likely be decided on fuel management. Throw in the fakeness of KERS, and they've pretty much destroyed the racing.

I have accidentally hit the brake with my left foot in a rental car as an instinctive reaction in a rental car since the clutch was missing.

I'm not sure what you mean by that, but it is indeed fake, as in a sham.

I don't know how much you know about F1, but it was introduced because F1 cars have become so dependent on aerodynamics that cars attempting to draft (or even get close to a car ahead) would become unstable. So, in order to "facilitate more passing," they introduced the "push to pass" button and the cars get a 80 bhp from the KERS system.
