Not Shoe! (Vague Mork and Mindy episode reference, stuck in my head for no good reason. If anyone has any idea what I'm talking about I'll rep them (without using a web search))

Wasn't this guy on every other episode of Scooby Doo playing multiple characters?

RIP

Dayze 04-12-2013 11:43 AM

I would've loved to have dropped Acid and toured the white house with Jim Carrey and Jonathan Winters.

A true great. Robin Williams will be crushed.

jimw51 04-12-2013 12:10 PM

Very funny man RIP

KC Dan 04-12-2013 12:13 PM

RIP. He was so funny in so many ways. A great improv comedian. It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World still one of my favorites

gblowfish 04-12-2013 12:18 PM

This guy really had a life. He was a marine, an art student, a painter, an impressionist, a TV star, won Grammys for comedy, won Emmys for TV, had one of the first TV shows broadcast in color...

He was also a raging alcoholic for a long time, and wound up spending eight months in an insane asylum.

Without him, we don't have Carson's goofy sketch comedy, Robin Williams improv or Jim Carrey's physical humor.

One of the true comedy greats. One of a kind. Big loss to comedy.

Good overview of his life is here:

There are also a lot of true legends in that clip. Now only Don Rickles is still with us from that collection.

He and Charles Durning, who we just recently lost as well, lived some big lives.

journeyscarab 04-12-2013 04:11 PM

Man...loved his comedy. They play some of his old improv bits on 24/7 Comedy where he would take audience suggestions and act them out. RIP.

gblowfish 04-12-2013 04:14 PM

High praise from Bill Cosby back in 2011:

Literally. He was in a mental hospital twice. He got out and filmed a nut job in It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, ....World. Quite appropriate.
