Danica Patrick Wins Pole Position For Daytona 500

I normally don't follow NASCAR too much, I prefer open wheel/Indy Car racing.

I do watch the Daytona 500 and other big races though.

This just happened today and it was history so thought I would post it.

Danica Patrick won the pole position for this years Daytona 500, first time in history for a woman.

I guess you gain some extra horsepower when you only weigh 100 lbs.

Not sure if it's going to matter much, she always seems to find a way to screw it up.

"Danica Patrick became the first woman to win the pole position for the Daytona 500, considered the Super Bowl of NASCAR, posting a lap of 196.434 mph Sunday."

I'd be willing to lay money that she'll be out before the race is half over.

She'll get pushed out of the way or into the wall by one of the good ole boys.

I'm glad you started this new thread... It has the word position in it, and when to comes to DP, position(s) are an awesome thought! Rep!

Well I agree and disagree. For something that's nothing, they sure do work their asses off to win it. But you're right, especially in a restrictor-plate race, past the publicity, it means little.

But it's nice to think that a hot-chick will be leading the way on the first lap...

Fairplay 02-17-2013 09:16 PM

Danica is great PR for NASCAR

TLO 02-17-2013 09:25 PM

And she is still a bitch....

Demonpenz 02-17-2013 10:37 PM

That is cool. Track is pretty simple to drive on. So it is more a nod to her race crew.

So for the first time at the start of a race everyone will be checking out her ass?

Whoever is right behind her needs to change his hood logo to...'I'm gonna tap dat!'

Baby Lee 02-17-2013 11:02 PM

She doesn't gain HP, her HP is more effective, same as if you had a go-kart with NASCAR HP.

notorious 02-17-2013 11:07 PM

Nascar needs ratings, and BOOM Danica wins the poll.

Nothing to see here. ROFL

Wish she was still open wheel. Greatly prefer Indy and F1 to NASCAR and their strategically equalized tin cans.

Appreciate the safety, but miss the raw power, speed and performance.

F1 cars are so BAUCE, like earthbound rockets. Fascinating to watch. NASCAR is OK, but it's like watching Olympic sprints with tethers for Usian Bolt and making everyone run in Easy Spirit Pumps to create a closer race.

Setsuna 02-17-2013 11:27 PM

She'll win my pole position every time. Ba-zing!

chiefqueen 02-17-2013 11:42 PM

It is not official until after the dual 125s and the practice sessions. If she wrecks the car she goes to the back of the field. But only she and Jeff Gordon are guaranteed of spots in the field as of now. (According to the broadcast no more guaranteed spots to the top 35).

I'm not sure you understand sarcasm. And she is not a good stock car driver at all. She was ok at formula racing. She is way out of her league. She causes wrecks and acts like a menstruating bitch.

She really wasn't that great of an open wheel racer either.

I agree, but she did a lot better open wheel than stock car. She is a wreck waiting to happen in NASCAR. She won a race or two in formula. She will never win a NASCAR sprint cup event.

PaulAllen 02-17-2013 11:52 PM

Pretty sexist, and racist. I'm not sure what her menstruation cycle has to do with her driving functionality.

NJChiefsFan 02-17-2013 11:53 PM

I don't watch racing a lot. Did when I was younger and was at my Dad's on weekends. Then again back then my favorite racer wasn't dead. I remember last year watching Danica in a road race(Walkins Glenn?) and she was in 5th or so on the final lap and pretty much got ****ed over on what seemed like an intentional hit. I'm sure she has caused her own crap, but that annoyed me since I had invested time watching the final few laps to see how she finished. Daytona is the one race I always make sure to see, along with the Indy 500.

Did go and see a race all the way in Tennessee years back and the noise from those cars, especially on a short track, was out of control. Old couple next to me didn't even had plugs in. Guess they were already deaf.

She has never raced in Formula 1. F1 drivers are the best in the entire world (well the non-pay drivers). She's never been top in anything she has raced.

Road race maybe? As I mentioned in my above post, she was real high the one race I watched last year.

No idea. I only heard of her when she went to Indy. She always seemed to have race pace for a good portion of the day, but she would make mistakes and give up positions at the end (that's from the small amount that I watched).

Yeah late in the race when the menstruation kicks in, she gets all emo and starts flipping people off and running into things...o:-)

Dylan 02-18-2013 01:57 AM

Chevy got the big plate.

This is a bunch of drama created by NASCAR. You know Danica will fade back.

Unfortunately, all this means is when she crashes (and she will crash), she will be in front of 42 cars.

Watch how fast the top drivers drop back.

It's one thing to qualify fast on an empty track and it's another thing to race with 42 drivers on the most nerve-wracking and dangerous track on the NASCAR schedule.

The only advantage she has by being lighter is that they can put the lead bars anywhere they want.

All the cars are too light to begin with and they have to add lead bars that slide into the frame to add weight to pass the minimum weight requirements
