How Herm Edwards evolved his offensive philosophy.

I'm watching some Christmas special on NFL Network, and they were talking about the old electric football games with the little vibrating men.

They're getting comments from various NFL guys about the game, and suddenly Herm is on camera, and he says, "It would take an hour to score". That really made me laugh.

The show is cruel to the Chiefs for the most part. They talked about the 1971 Christmas Day game, which is of course a neverending font of grief. Then they showed a clip of Matt Cassel throwing a pass directly into the helmet of an onrushing defender. The only good thing so far is an inexplicable clip of Jon Baldwin's catch where he caught the ball around the defender's back.

But I thought the Herm Edwards thing was hilarious.

I wasn't aware he had an offensive philosophy. You sure as hell couldn't tell on the field.

It explains those play designs where every receiver ran to the sideline and stood there oscillating.

Two years later he would say that scoring 30 points is like being in the Arena league.

**** you, Herm! **** you!

If I ever see him in person, I will stab him in the face. :#

For as much shit as herm gets... People forget that he went from herm ball to allowing gailey to run the pistol. So he's right. He did adjust the offensive philosophy to the qb. That was an aggressive pass happy offense.

Sure, but it took him completely dismantling a championship caliber offense to realize that he needed to open up the offense, so he gets no points for installing the pistol offense with Thigpen. He should have left the offense well enough alone.

Before you start comparing them to the Saints, they averaged 36 attempts a game and scored on average 22 points a game in his 11 starts. For Herm that's practically Arena ball.

I never did. But the saints had drew Brees. The chiefs had tyler thigpen.

I'm merely pointing out that herm is being honest. He went against his offensive philosophy and let gailey do his thing. Which was the best scheme given the personnel and almost stole a few wins around a talentless offense with a bad qb.

SAUTO 12-22-2012 09:13 PM

Tony g and Bowe = talentless?

We had two qbs not worth a damn. And an offensive line with a pro bowler and four complete duds. We forget that our offense was in serious rebuild. Sorry... This is more a credit to gailey than to herm. But he got as much out of that talent as you can ask for.

I disagree. But I'm surely not arguing that point with you tonight.

What is it with you defending every piece of shit coach we have had through here?

Because this place is so ridiculous about being 100% for or against someone.

I've acknowledged herm was not a coach we wanted to keep even way before he was fired. But was he right here? Jfc, he was a smash mouth football guy and moved to a college pass first spread! Where is the debate? Haters will find any reason to discredit a guy.

SAUTO 12-22-2012 09:40 PM

I'm not sucking his cock.

He's getting ripped into his thread for lying about adjusting his offense.

That is a ridiculous accusation.

Sorry... I'm not one of you over reactionary types that is so gung ho about crucifying a guy. He did some bad things and some good ones. He let gailey adjust the offense to his personnel. That was a good thing.

Reerun_KC 12-22-2012 09:45 PM

zilla you have been swinging from Herms nut sack from day one...

No, I have not.

I have said he is a horrible game day coach, a one and done playoff coach at best, and that he should have been fired but deserved some leeway because he made a bold but CORRECT move to blow this team up and focus on youth.

It's people like you that want to blame him from everything from poor talent he inherited to assassinating JFK.

I'm sorry that you confuse not crucifying a guy for ball sucking.
