The Franchise 02-07-2015 10:51 PM

I'm on my phone, I'll rep you later, Lew.

I normally owe a few hundred bucks every year so I don't even think about it until around the first of April.

I know, I could have earned that whole .10% interest if I had that parked in my savings account instead.

We actually take some of the money we get on a refund every year and drop extra into our Roth IRA accounts. I personally spend money I get back, like a refund, wiser than if I was just receiving more money each month.

It's still your money that was withheld. Though it is nice when you file and pay less than you had assumed.

I learned early on that when I owed that it super-sucked, when I broke even I didn't have a yacht in a slip because I kept the money, and I had a car repair I was going to put on a credit card because the headache I drank myself into was sponsored by the money I would have otherwise loaned to the government.

My current goal, even though I'm a LOT older, is to get between $2K and $4K back.

Families with military members (head of household or spouse..) should pay zero taxes!

And anybody who disagrees with me can **** off, fist themselves, and take a trip to the fight and then tell me I'm wrong.

Most worthless tax credit. We paid close to $20k in childcare and only got a $1k credit.

I have to file by 3/1. I have a couple more things to reconcile. Hopefully I can file by tomorrow.

I'm really hoping my liability isn't too bad. I think I managed it properly. There are a couple things that came up that I didn't expect, but hopefully between my withholdings, the extra exemption from mean girl, child tax credit, daycare, and I get 1/2 SE Health insurance that I took it up the ****ing ass on, the vehicle mileage that I kept, hopefully I can not owe too damn much.

I help the tax person do taxes during the winter. She reviews it when I'm done. Unfortunately it is getting more intensive every year. Next year I'll have at least one more entity, and optimistically an investment or two. I need a bookkeeper :(

That's a damn shame.

I'd actually made more last year than the previous 3 years in school. Consequently with the EITC I'm getting back around 4500. Saving some paying bills with rest and knowing with the new job I'll never see Uncle Sam giving me that hand out again.

You're not kidding. I was pretty bummed to realize it, but the extra money in my paycheck is nice :D I actually owed state, though. Guess I need to give a bit more this year. I hate owing.

Much akin to hiring a lawyer for a court case, right?

I get your point, and in some cases you're right, but when you have investments (outside of the corporate 401k plan), multiple properties, some rentals, kids in college, AND you're trying to **** Obama's whore minions out of stealing most of your coin, you hire a pro. And it's not just the trip to Wal-Mart's H&R Block curtained-off area, for some it's a financial advisory to help them with their coin as they're busy making more of it.

Oh no, I get that the multi-layered tax return needs professional guidance.

I'm taking about paying J-H or H and R over $100.00 to file a ****ing EZ or 1040 with no itemization whatsoever.

I've filed an F since I was 16. I've needed help. Since I've done it, I can do it now but I want my shot reviewed.

On the whole you'd be surprised how completely oblivious to anything that has any tax implications some people are. I've had clients come in and listened to my boss repeat the same shit over and over in the simplest least common denominator way possible and people just can't ****ing get it. One gal had a kid move out and lost a exemption. My boss couldn't get it through the gals skull that if you're not supporting a kid you refund goes down. So finally she thinks she gets it and then tells her she owes a TINY amount on the state. WHAT? WHY? HOW?

Another gal in her like 30s cashed out her IRA and then wondered why on earth her taxes would be high.

Another dude got busy and just hasn't filed a damn thing in 3 years.

Another one didn't bother to mention he did construction on the side and then shows up with 1099s after the return was in.

Basic taxation practices are lost on a huge number of people.

And HR blocks target market are the EITC crowd. Those dollars are so huge it doesn't matter what they charge. And they know it.

I paid about $40-$50 total to file federal and state on taxact.com. Unless your taxes are in arrears or just plain fubar i don't know why you'd pay people this kind of money to type numbers into a program.
