Harrison Ford confirmed for 'Blade Runner' sequel
Hmmmm........not sure about this??
(CNN)Harrison Ford will reprise his role as Rick Deckard in the "Blade Runner" sequel. "Prisoners" director Denis Villeneuve is in talks to helm the Alcon Entertainment film. The film is scheduled to start principle photography in the summer of 2016. Hampton Fancher, who co-wrote the original, and Michael Green have written the screenplay, which is based on an idea from Fancher and Ridley Scott. The story takes place several decades after the conclusion of the 1982 original, which centered on a man (Ford) working as a blade runner who was tasked with chasing down machines called replicants. Alcon Entertainment acquired the rights to "Blade Runner" in 2011 with the intention of making both prequels and sequels to the iconic science-fiction thriller. Bud Yorkin will serve as a producer on the sequel along with Alcon co-founders Andrew A. Kosove and Broderick Johnson. Frank Giustra and Tim Gamble, CEOs of Thunderbird Films, will serve as executive producers. Villeneuve most recently directed the crime thriller Sicario, staring Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro. He also directed Canada's Oscar-nominated French-language film "Incendies" and "Prisoners," staring Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal. Ford next will be seen in Lionsgate's "The Age of Adaline" and will reprise his role as Han Solo in "Disney's Star Wars: The Force Awakens." He's repped by UTA. http://www.cnn.com/2015/02/27/entert...-ford-thr-fea/ |
Finally, a DeBerg thread worth reading!
|
So, are they going to acknowledge that he was a replicant?
|
Quote:
Supposedly, Ford said the script is the "Best he's ever read" and he's notoriously picky. |
Ugh.... no good will come of this. None.

If he's good as Han Solo in December I think he can pull off Deckard one more time.

Han was Harrison, he played himself basically. Seeing him and Hamill onscreen together again is going to be a massive jimp, I'll probably need to take extra pants to the theater. |

Harrison Ford confirmed for 'Blade Runner' sequel
The bigger thing, IMO, will be how they write Han. If they write him like a 70-year-old playing the young Han we saw in the original trilogy, it won't be believable. He can retain the smart assness, but they need to age him in attitude and personality, too.

You're still the same guy in all the ways that matter on the inside. Han is going to ROCK Han. |

Watch this and weep for your inner child, you have become jaded by the pressures and ugliness of the adult world young Padiwan... go grab your Boba Fett outfit and dance with me!

I'm just calling it like I see it. In interviews, Ford looks like an old man who's losing it. I think drugs are helping him keep it together for performances.

Well, I suppose I should sit down and really watch the original. I've seen bits and pieces of it but never from beginning to end. This is kinda rare for me too, I'm really into movies from that era.

You havent sat and intently watched the original movie yet, Gonzo?
Whoooa, you better get with the program... but quick! |
Quote:
Don't remember it as a bad movie, just not the most memorable of ones. |

If you haven't watched it recently, I'd recommend giving it a look. |

I dont even know where to begin, so I wont. |

I know I've seen about 60% of it but just never sat thru from beginning to end. I've ways meant too, it was on my must see before I croak list anyway. I recall seeing it when I was a kid but falling asleep half way thru. We were doing a movie night with my folks. We watched The Omega Man and Solyent Green with Heston first, then Logan's Run and we were finishing up with Blade Runner. For some reason I seem to remember android titties... Then crashed and had wonderful sex bot dreams afterwards.
Shit. Oh well. |

I LOVE Blade Runner. This could be epic.

Whats interesting is, it was a huge flop upon release. Most people thought it was a tremendous bore, including myself. But as the years grew, people began to really dig it alot more. Im still not sure it has a huge enough following to make the sequel a hit, but who knows? |
If you like Blade Runner you owe it to yourself to read Neuromancer.

Truth is, I've watched Blade Runner more times than I remember... just got my star wars and this thread mixed up.
I mean, who can forget the scene where Han throws Rutger Hauer into the Sarlacc pit? |

"Johnny Mnemonic: was, forgettably, turned into a mid-90's sci-fi film with Keanu and Dolph Lundgren. |

I saw that at a drive in, too. I was 12 and went with my parents. It was the second of a double feature. The first movie was Forget Paris. I fell asleep 30 minutes into Mnemonic. |

I think I did too. Was there a giant shark or a whale or something in that movie? The memories have been repressed. |
Ah, yes. A dolphin.

I've read the book and seen their production. Can't wait for this. :)

Agreed on John Wick. That was a fun film. |

Ive known about that for years. Ive always wanted to see the actual film itself. Has it never been made available to the public???
My friends and I used to do similar stuff with old VHS cameras growing up. But not nearly as elaborate or a complete film. |

Gotta think the script has to revolve around Decker's journey towards realizing he's a replicant.
After his "duty-first" approach all those years hunting down replicants, he learns what it's like to not be human - and be hunted. Obviously, that's a bit predictable.......but I'll be stoked if they stay focused on the psychological aspects, as they did so well in the first. |

http://badassdigest.com/2015/02/27/d...-making-sense/ With the announcement of Blade Runner 2 and with the fact that Harrison Ford is starring in it, we must all accept one thing: Deckard isn't a replicant. He can't be, since replicants have four year life spans, and Harrison Ford's done more than four laps around the sun since Blade Runner. |

Quote:
Perhaps he's a "different" kind of replicant. |
Sean Young's character didn't have an expiration date either. Of course that still brings up the question of "Do replicants age physically?"
|
Quote:
But the more I think about it, the less I like the idea of a sequel, as it just may ruin the original. |

What sucks is, this could be really good. Lots of ways they could take the story that would be really fun and interesting. I just worry that it will be crap instead. |

There's a lot of documentation about the end of the original movie, and how the happy ending voiceover was added at the demand of the studio. The insinuation that he was also a replicant, along with the fact that she probably was going to die soon just like the other replicants, were both buried in that film. So it really depends with this new film on how they want to take it: he could be a replicant or he could be human, she could be dead or she could be just as old as he is, it really just depends on where they want to go with the plot. All I know is, at his age there won't be a lot of running. Maybe they should call it "Blade Walking" (with tennis balls on the front feet). |
