One of my favorite movies. Not groundbreaking by any means, just entertainment done well...

Bowser 01-14-2017 12:46 PM

Yeah, that first one was great

unlurking 01-14-2017 05:40 PM

Absolutely love the way they timed the hits and gunshots with the 1812 Overture.

Hawk 02-09-2017 08:14 AM

So far John Wick 2 is at 95% postive on rotten tomatoes with 40 reviews in. I was already pumped, but it sounds like they did a good job with it, so I'm getting even more pumped to see this. Anyone seen it yet?

BigBeauford 02-10-2017 09:50 PM

This was the best action movie I have ever seen. I am just blown away.

MMXcalibur 02-10-2017 09:59 PM

Holy shit, I loved John Wick 1.
Can't believe they are one-upping it with the 2nd chapter.

Might need to break away to watch this in theaters...

MMXcalibur 02-10-2017 10:01 PM

...and I don't think I'll be able to get over Laurence Fishburne and Keanu Reeves being in the same movie without immediately thinking of The Matrix.

The red pill. Definitely the red pill.

'Hamas' Jenkins 02-11-2017 12:38 PM

Extremely enjoyable, and some of the most unique and graphic kills I've ever seen in a movie (those who've seen it will know the scene I speak of).

Although a similar trope to the first film, it's a much different universe, so they feel a lot different.

The first film was a low-budget noir action film that was extremely efficient. They described a single criminal organization and a small subculture surrounding it. Chapter 2 is significantly more ambitious, and because of that it feels like a much different movie--it's similar to how the Fast and Furious films changed after FF4. It feels a little retconn-y at times.

I liked the first movie more, but that is also probably due to how much it surprised me and the performances by actors like Nyquist (Vigo), and Marcus (Defoe).

Regardless, I'd still highly recommend this to anyone who liked the first, or likes films that make heavy use of Gun-Fu (Equilibrium, Hard Boiled, etc.).

Frazod 02-11-2017 01:04 PM

I'm looking forward to seeing this, but probably next weekend. Reeves is awesome in these movies. I also like the fact that he seriously trains with real weapons.

Bowser 02-11-2017 01:09 PM

Yeah, saw that. Pretty impressive. I think his firearms trainer actually said that Canoe could legit compete in a firearms competition if he wanted (maybe said that just to fluff him, who knows). There is some video floating around here showing his martial arts training. He took this quite seriously, working long hours just to get it down. It was pretty impressive as well.

And thanks for the review, Hamas. I'm definitely looking forward to this.

Frazod 02-11-2017 01:14 PM

Oh he absolutely could. I've done a few three gun matches and he's better than most. Certainly far better than my old fat ass. :D

keg in kc 02-11-2017 01:49 PM

I liked it a lot, but the last minute or two just felt deflated. Yeah, yeah, we know you're going to make another one.

Easy 6 02-11-2017 05:28 PM

Probably gonna catch this on matinee tomorrow, hearing nothing but great things here and elsewhere

Giving the original one a 3rd viewing on SyFy channel right now

Tribal Warfare 02-11-2017 07:47 PM

It's a slight step down from the original but still ****ing awesome

Sure-Oz 02-12-2017 06:52 PM

It was fantastic...Really enjoyed it. I will see it again and purchase it. Def stoked for the 3rd felt like a dark knight ending kindve

It was a good movie, I liked the original better though. This one I felt was a bit too long.

That's exactly where I fall. Nyquist was just so good in the first one. This movie would've been like having Josef as the heavy in the first one.

The movie lacked a truly imposing badass opposite of Keanu. Some great moments and a very good movie on balance, but I liked the first one more because the foil was much more compelling. The action scenes stood up to or even surpassed the first ones, but they got a little long and repetitive at times and did so at the expense of the story.

In the end, having a cut-rate Marton Csokas as the bad guy just didn't do the film justice. It was similar to watching The Hateful Eight where the whole time I'm watching Tim Roth thinking "okay, this role was pretty obviously intended for Christoph Waltz and all I can see right now is Roth doing a Walz impression." This whole movie felt like Santino doing an impression of Quinn from Into the Badlands.

Frazod 02-20-2017 04:43 PM

Finally saw it this afternoon. What an enjoyable flick. Stylish, slick, bloody and silly.

Apparently there are only two kinds of people in the world - mindless computer game avatars who notice absolutely nothing going on around them, and underworld assassins with old crappy cellphones. LMAO

Ha, I should never have started watching that, just killed 40 minutes I didn't have!

Really interesting though, thanks for posting. Man it would be great if they really did the "impossible task" prequel, but I'd take a John Wick 3 as well.

CoMoChief 02-22-2017 03:19 AM

I liked them both just as much. Typical guy action flick...Hollywood needs more of these.

I will say this. I think it's kind of silly that he literally shoots everyone in the head. lmao

Wonder who wins in a battle of who kills who first....Jason Bourne or John Wick?

Don't know on that one, but in the battle of better movie fight scenes, John Wick obliterates Bourne. I'm not a fan of the up close, shaky camera, overly cut up fight scenes they do in Bourne movies. The John Wick scenes are way better, and that video of the interview with the John Wick directors spells that out pretty well.

Figuratively speaking. Jason would win that fight. Transporter Jason is a formidable guy too who was ex sas

I saw it last weekend. I liked it, but thought the first one was better. It seemed like their formula for this one was just doing the same stuff as the first movie but more of it.

Finally saw this today. The thing is you had some emotional involvement in the first film. As in his wife just died. He got carjacked and then his dog was killed. This film not so much. I liked this movie just as well. But the emotional involvement just wasn't there. If that makes sense. The deaf chick was hot though.:D:D:D Can't wait for the 3rd film. Wick is on his own now after violating the rules. How pissed could he have been to have killed the guy in the bar in front of Winston? Bad move.

Haven't caught this yet. I believe I'll go check it out today. In the mood for a good popcorn flick at the theater.

Fish 05-30-2017 10:37 PM

Man.... the choreography in this movie is really incredible. There's a scene where he's holding a guy down with the barrel of his shotgun out of harm's way, while he reloads it, to shoot him after downing several others in the meantime. So much fun, both of the Wick movies. This one wasn't quite as good, but still awesome.

Much of JW2 seemed too mechanical compared to the first one. Still a good flick, but not on the same level as the original.

I'll still be watching if they do JW3.

Frazod 05-31-2017 12:44 PM

I particularly enjoyed the tunnel escape, which was basically Reeves doing a 3-Gun match.

agreed, this was just borderline gore porn to me. No real plot to make you give a shit.

yup, as compared to the plot of the first one, this one has as much plot as Sorority Sluts 34

Frazod 06-26-2017 09:39 AM

The first one was a pretty straight forward revenge story with some really interesting supporting characters.

The second one, while still fun, was really silly.

Why would Common's character be singularly focused on killing Wick? How about the brother who forced him to do the hit in the first place? And for that matter, she offed herself - he never laid a hand on her. That was just dumb - like Nero hating Spock dumb. it would have made more sense if they had joined forces.

And as I mentioned shortly after I saw it, in this movie there are two kinds of people - professional assassins with shitty cellphones, and mindless computer game avatars who don't notice anything going on around them. It was so bad I was expecting every tenth person walking by to talk about being a former assassin before taking an arrow to the knee. Seriously, if a bloody guy walking right next to you is engaged in a gunfight, even with a suppressed weapon, YOU'RE GOING TO NOTICE IT UNLESS YOU'RE HELEN ****ING KELLER. And I guess even Helen would smell the gunpowder smoke and assume it might be time to duck.

If you're saying the first had as much plot as Sorority Sluts 1, then I guess I can't disagree with you.

Although I kind of think both films succeeded in large part due to their unapologetic lack of plot. Sometimes plot just gets in the way. True for both action and porn.

She killed herself but he still put one in her dome before he left so I guess give her her own way of dying but also showing that he finished the job. Still implausible for Common to think otherwise that he shot her in the head then slit her wrists afterwards. Maybe Common blamed John for being there in the first place and if John wouldn't have come for her then she wouldn't have killed herself to avoid an execution. We also don't know if Common had a more personal relationship with her, which was an unfortunate plot hole. It's not as believable as what you put, but I believed there was some wiggle room with that scene. Not to mention Common could've seen it as two birds with one stone, get the bounty and get a little revenge and be known as the assassin who killed the infamous John Wick.

Gonzo 09-04-2017 08:58 PM

Lumpy and I watched both of them in the last week. I'm sure I am mimicking a lot of opinions here when I say that the second was not nearly the movie the first was. If all you want is action and gun porn, 2 is for you. However, 1 is by far the better movie. Both are weak when it comes to storyline but at least the first had something you could get behind.
