I normally don't acquiesce, but in this instance I agree. It has BCS implications.

Hope N. Illinois wins!

You'd think they will. That Kentucky game really makes me wonder about Kent State and I think common opponents generally speak well for NIU (army being the obvious exception...):

Akron: Kent St 35-24; NIU 37-7
Army: Kent St 31-17; NIU 41-40
Ball State: Kent St 45-43; NIU 35-23
Buffalo: Kent St 23-7; NIU 45-3
Eastern Michigan: Kent St 41-14; NIU 49-7
Western Michigan: Kent St 41-24; NIU 48-34

And, again, losing 18-17 to Iowa seems less egregious to me than losing 47-14 to Kentucky. I get that they've only lost one game, but losing by that much to a team that bad makes me wonder how exactly they're ranked in the top 20. I guess the win over Rutgers balances it out. But damn...

This is different. Kent State got crushed by Kentucky. They're not Cinderella, they're her ugly step sisters trying to force the glass slipper to fit.

The other difference is people care more about football. People want the best team(s) to play for the Championship. For basketball it's a tournament and people don't really care as much. Could you imagine the outrage if a team that was 0.500 in conference play was in the BCS National Championship game?

I think it has a lot to do with the format and the history behind each postseason. The media embraces Cinderella in CBB, I think because it's a long tournament and everyone knows upsets are going to happen... plus everyone roots for them after filling out office pools... everyone who fills out a bracket is expected to know that you pick at least one 12 seed, you don't pick all 1 seeds in the FF, etc.

CFB simply isn't used to that kind of parity... hell, they just now accepted a plus 1. A CBB team can have a couple of bad losses on their resume and still get a 1 seed... and something like that is supposed to completely eliminate a CFB team. Also, relatively unknown CBB teams have been known to compete with top 25 teams for years... but, Kent State football?

I generally don't like Cinderella teams.... at least in CBB, there are generally at least a handful of teams worthy of NC talk, so if one goes down, it's not a huge deal. In CFB, mentioning 3 teams is stretching it some years, so I think people simply prefer seeing those few teams play each other.

That would make sense if Kent was gunning for a slot in the NCG. They aren't, though. They would be bumping some team like Oklahoma who also has no claim at the title.

Keitzman needs to stick to bashing on the Chiefs and Royals.

He just said Baylor would have finished in the top half of the SEC.

He's become the worst Big 12 homer I've ever seen.

It started with Mizzou. When they were rumored to be going to the Big 10, he was over-the-top saying that Mizzou should go, it was great, they should stick it to Texas, etc.

Then when that fell through and Mizzou went to the SEC, he completely flipped - the Big 12 had it right, 10 teams meant more money per team, their model is better than every other conference, etc.

But he didn't jump the shark until K-State got into the NC discussion, and now that they've lost, he's lost it.

Alabama is in because they're Alabama, not because they deserve it.

Board here's not much different. I do my best to avoid saying things like there isn't a big 12 team that would finish in the top half of the SEC this year, or that I think maybe half the big ten is better than most big 12 teams. I think Kansas State was this year's fluky team that beat up on a cupcake schedule, I don't think Oklahoma is anywhere close to as good as past Oklahoma teams, Texas, as always, is a talented team with a hack coach that's at best about middle of the pack quality-wise, and the rest of the conference is basically a bunch of mediocre teams beating up on each other.

'course I say that and they'll end up winning 7 bowl games or something...

I dunno, the top half of the SEC includes Vanderbilt, and there's a lot of shit at the bottom... I don't think any B12 teams would be competing for an SEC title, but I'm sure a few would do fine with a schedule like Georgia's, playing 2 teams with an overall winning record.

Georgia has gotten to the SEC championship 2 years in a row that way. Last year they played Ole Miss, Miss St and Auburn in the West and missed playing LSU, Arkansas and Alabama who all finished in the top 8.

Now that was a nice 34 yard throw by Murray.

The late hit on Murray? I thought it was outrageous too, until they showed the wider angle view. It appeared that it happened well after the INT, during the return, so I guess the hit could just be considered a block. Might have got him in the head, though.

They're still a top 10 team in the country. How many teams have a win on the road against a top 10 team in the country? Without looking, I'm going to guess one other.

Setsuna 12-01-2012 05:51 PM

Ok besides their running game. Whoever plays ND, they will run all over them. That's for sure. Tao will be sucking air by the 4th quarter.

KC_Connection 12-01-2012 05:53 PM

Probably should have looked....A&M has one (over Alabama), Stanford has one (over Oregon), and LSU has one (over A&M). Still a very rare feat to beat a top 10 team on the road as Alabama has done.

Seriously? ND hasn't even remotely played a team like UGA and Bama. Both teams will wear you down until they are running over you in the second half. ND doesn't have the athletes nor depth to hang around. Guarantee it. They don't have enough impact players.

So which is it? I've heard that their defenses are so stout they can hardly be scored on, but now both of their offenses are so good they can wear out even their superior defenses.

Georgia was beaten 35-7 by South Carolina. Where was the stout defense and beat them into submission offense then? Both of these teams are beatable. Will they lose to ND, I don't know, but it will not be a shock if they do.

Lawl. I have never thought Georgia's D was legit. It's not. So you can get that talk out of here now. All teams are beatable. Your team is much more beatable than UGA or Bama.
