25,000 Big Macs

Man Eats His Meat-Mentous 25,000th Big Mac

Wisconsin Man Stays Healthy Despite Love Of Sandwich

FOND DU LAC, Wis. -- A Wisconsin man has made gastronomic history by finishing off his 25,000th Big Mac.

On the anniversary of his very first Big Mac, Don Gorske, of Fond Du Lac, Wis., donned his McDonald's gear and ordered the momentous sandwich before a crowd of reporters and photographers.

"I should try to look my best, right?" said Gorske.

He finished the burger in 16 bites, just as he ate his first Big Mac 1972, when his love affair for the burger began. The 57-year-old said McDonald's was the first place he drove when getting his first car. When he asked the owner for a good sandwich, he suggested the Big Mac -- for better or worse.

"It's the best thing I ever ate in my life," said Gorske.

He ate a total of nine on that May day, but said he has cut down to one or two recently.

Gorske, however, is not a Whopper fan. He said a friend once gave him $5 to eat the Burger King flagship sandwich. He ate it, vowed "never again" and spent the money on Big Macs. His Big Mac fixation found him a spot on the movie "Super Size Me," which didn't paint a glowing picture of the fast-food giant.

People are scratching their heads over more than his love of the very specific burger. Despite the sandwich's 576 calories and 742 milligrams of sodium, Gorske remains thin and healthy.

"I had my cholesterol just checked a couple weeks ago and it was 156. That's the third time I had it checked. In 1997, it was 158 and in 2003, it was 140. I mean, there's nothing showing me my cholesterol is going up," said Gorske.

A nutritionist said he is certainly the exception to the rules of healthy eating.

"It's not something we would encourage because the calories are so high. Over 500 for one sandwich -- that's a lot for most people," said nutritionist Janine Bamberger.

Gorske's love for the sandwich reaches all the way to his basement, where he keeps most of the 25,000 boxes or receipts for the Big Mac.

His wife -- yes, he has one -- said she stands by her man no matter how many Big Macs he eats.

"Yeah, I think it's weird," said Mary Gorske. "But that's OK. It's a good weird."

MOhillbilly 05-18-2011 09:26 AM

disgusting.

Sofa King 05-18-2011 09:26 AM

A "good" weird????

Since when did eating 25k Big Mac's become a "good" weird?

blaise 05-18-2011 09:27 AM

Yeah, but most of those numbers came from the steroid beef era.

booyaf2 05-18-2011 09:27 AM

Big macs are delicious

Simply Red 05-18-2011 09:28 AM

I'm good for about two per year. Really nothing else there thrills me. But honestly I do get a craving for a BM every once in a while.... So I'll go w/ the BM, for those instances

Exactly. I'm not saying delicious as in eating 1.75 per day like this old fart. Just saying every once in a great while I get the itch for a big mac and that itch feels good once scratched.

More proof that we've all been fed lies and bullshit concerning the link between eating meat and fat and heart disease/cholesterol.

Rain Man 05-18-2011 09:30 AM

Y'know, I don't think I've ever had a Big Mac. The toppings don't look that appealing, so I always order a quarter-pounder with cheese or a cheeseburger or something. Pretty sure I've never had one.

MOhillbilly 05-18-2011 09:30 AM

I wouldnt eat big macs if they were free. Nasty mofos. 'special sauce' and three slices of bread? ya **** that.

I like the Big Mac. I think it's better than the Quarter Pounder.

I've always been a McChicken man.

Had burgers other places though. Pretty weird.

When I was a fatty my choice of disgusting food was typically Taco Bueno Quesadillas and nachos. And one of them Muchacos, bitch.

they've hung in there over the yrs. BTW - is MCD's still bringing in their beef from Europe? That was a noticable change, when they did that. Taste changed majorly.

Bob Dole 05-18-2011 09:39 AM

Bob Dole is having a tough time getting to the 25k McRib goal because those bastards keep pulling it from the menu.

BigMeatballDave 05-18-2011 09:39 AM

Puke. If you're gonna eat fast food, why McD's?

No sandwiches should ever have a 3rd slice a bread.

I don't know. I thought they got it from Argentina or something.

cdcox 05-18-2011 09:42 AM

The Big Mac is the real star of the McDonald's menu. I don't eat them very often because they are messy to eat when driving, and I only eat at McDonald's is when I'm crunched for time.

3rd bun option- only if the burger is so sick you need it to soak up the grease cause the bottom bun doesnt cut it.

nuff said.

DMAC 05-18-2011 09:43 AM

Only fast food I eat anymore is Jr. Bacon Cheesburger from Wendys.

And Chinese drive thru...I guess that counts.

Rain Man 05-18-2011 09:46 AM

I find the whole dollar menu odd. Why would I pay three bucks or whatever for a Big Mac or Quarter-Pounder when I can get a double cheeseburger for a buck? I pretty much just go with the double cheeseburger now.

KCUnited 05-18-2011 09:47 AM

A 3rd piece of bread is perfectly acceptable on a club sandwich. Burgers, no.

The Franchise 05-18-2011 09:47 AM

Big Macs are the most overrated thing on the McDs menu.

Mr. Laz 05-18-2011 09:48 AM

when i was 14, i got a job working in a shoe stockroom. I was underage for working so i just got paid in cash. I would take that cash and buy lunch at McDonald's all the time.

3 big macs,fries,large sprite

luv me some macs ... although can't eat like that anymore. :(

blaise 05-18-2011 09:51 AM

When I was in college we ordered what we called The Trifecta. A Big Mac (or QP) a McChicken and a Filet-O-Fish.

I love when the dude says it's the tastiest thing he's ever eaten. Fella needs to broaden his horizon a little bit.

Also, I don't get the point of the Big Mac, I can order a double or a single cheeseburger and tell them to put mac sauce on it. It tastes just like a Big Mac and is about 1/2 the size.

Marcus_Halberstram 05-18-2011 10:10 AM

last night at barcadia i had the chocolate glazed truffle with caramelized walnuts flown in from montreal. not my favorite

The more I think about it, 25,000 Big Macs is a lot. That's roughly three a day over a period of 25 years.

While I haven't had a Big Mac, I must admit that the whole third bread thing intrigues me. I like bread, so it seems like a burger with more bread would be a good thing.

I wonder if we're the only two adults in the US that haven't had a Big Mac.

I think Claythan said he hasn't, either, so there's three. Oh, and philfree now, too. Wow. We're a movement.

I eat at McDonald's somewhat regularly, maybe 4 times a year. For some reason I like to stop there when I'm on a road trip; it's a little tradition. But the Big Mac has simply never looked appealing to me.

I'm in awe that he was able to develop a craving for those things. Yuck.

Just for shits and giggles; the average price of a big mac in the US in 2008 was $3.57

$3.57 x 25k = $89,250

Was it Mcdonalds that came out with the 'Big And Tasty'? I never had one of those either. I figured it was probably more the Big And Nasty. When I was much younger I did eat some Qtr Pounders. Ordered with ketchup only of course.

On another note I think I'll drive over to Smoothy King and have a shot of Wheat Grass Juice.

Dude polished nine of those bombers on his first day. How many enemas did it take to clear that? For those who say they haven't tried a Big Mac, no matter how good or bad they are, it doesn't give you any moral high ground. Come out of your freaking caves and at least familiarize yourself with the American culture. One won't kill you.

Next time you're feeling adventurous remove that 'beef' pattie from the special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions and bun and see how much it tastes like beef.
