Vermeil had been away for like 15 years before he came back. There is no magic formula for a successful coach. A good coach is always a good coach.

I think Reid is a fine choice for us ... short term. I also believe that in 5 years we need to be ready to find our 'Jim Harbaugh'.

Even if he did, Gruden is about the last guy I'd ever want developing a QB. He was the pro version of Spurrier when it came to a QB shuffle, and he couldn't identify talent at all.
