Of course they did.
|
Nice chunk of change there. Hope he can stay healthy, and take his improvement up to the next level.
|
11.9 million.
That's a lot of cheddar. |
They will extend and restructure.
|
If he doesn't get hurt, they can still cut him with no cap implications after this year. Or extend to a more cap friendly long-term deal. This year he has a cap hit of $7M, $3.6M of that is prorated signing bonus.

In other news, Titans declined to pick up their option on RG Chance Warmack.
Do we have any interest? |

That 2013 draft is the perfect example that the good old "safe" OL pick is bullshit.
Warmack, Cooper, and Joeckel were all considered good safe picks, while Fisher was a guy with a lot of upside, but would need time to develop. |

Can someone explain to me how he gets a fifth year option before his fourth year?
Rep for helpful answers. |

Would bet good money that as long as he stays healthy this will end up being a long term extension before it ever goes on the books.
|
Gotcha. So this means that he is extended for now through the end of 2017?

By slapping the option on, they essentially take said player away from the FA pool next year, but they also have until next March to decide if they were wrong or not. The player benefits too because if he gets hurt between now and then in a serious form, they still get the one year deal. |
waiting for the restructure to cut that number in half

Lock him up until his early 30's and then decide where to go from there. |

Hmm...I mean that makes this season so huge for Fisher, right? If we dont restructure him to a longer deal , and he ends up having a horrible season or something, would we realistically cut him?
Is the deadline to restructure a deal with him prior to the 1st game of the regular season? |
I don't think I could blame the Chiefs if they waited it out before deciding to give a long term deal or not.
|
Dorsey has already indicated that he's working on an extension with Fisher so I think it's highly unlikely that it doesn't happen.

We knew coming out that he had great upside but would likely need time to develop. Well, he's gone from complete ass, to just bad, to hardly noticeable, to pretty ****ing good. Given the fact that he's still very young and injury concerns appear to be a thing of the past, get him signed long-term ASAP before he prices himself out of our pocketbooks. Chances are he'll sign to something that we look at initially as a bit high, but in 2-3 years will look like bargain with contract inflation. |

I couldn't disagree more. Let's take a deeper look at the situation:
Instead of taking Eric Fisher with the #1 overall pick in 2013, they take Sheldon Richardson. The Chiefs don't have a pick until the 3rd round of the 2013 draft in which they select Travis Kelce, then Knile Davis. Branden Albert was Franchised in 2013 and started 12 games at left tackle. He left in 2014 for a $47 million dollar deal with Miami, and he's missed 11 out of 32 games. Had Richardson stayed in KC, Donald Stephenson would have filled in for him in 2014 and 2015 and the Chiefs would have been on a books for a huge contract for an often injured player. Let's say that the Chiefs balked at Albert's price and decided to draft a left tackle in the 2014 draft. The Chiefs chose at #23 overall. This is the list of the remaining tackles in the 2014 draft at #23: Cyrus Kouandjio Jack Mewhort Justin Britt Morgan Moses Billy Turner Michael Schofield Cameron Fleming Kevin Pamphile Tavon Rooks Mitchell Van Dyk Ulrick John Seantrel Henderson Charles Leno, Jr. Do any of those guys appear to be quality starting NFL left tackles? That's right, the answer is a resounding "NO". The "best" offensive lineman in that list is probably Britt but after sucking at right tackle, the Seahawks moved him inside to left guard in which he finished as the #49 overall according to PFF. In no universe should the Chiefs have taken anyone but Fisher #1 in the 2013 NFL Draft. And FWIW, the Dolphins haven't had a winning record since signing Albert to that monster deal and they just took another left tackle at #13 overall in the 2016 draft after he slid from the Top 5 due to the weed video. |
Terron armstead could habe been had in 2013, but probably miss out on kelce unless he would have continued to fall due to off field issues.
Had it worked out, Richardson Armstead Kelce Is better than Fisher Kelce Davis But fisher was the way to go as we've seen now, I was mainly ****ing with snr thru an inside joke. |

I think Sheldon Richardson would have gone a long way in the Chiefs playoff run that season. They probably don't fold in Indy if they could of broke down Luck's pocket.
Same in New England, so I can't fault them for wanting better rush from the DL. |
Damn glad to hear it, the guy is a classic late bloomer
He has flashed dominance against guys like Von Dope and he started to pair those flashes with consistency last year... the guy is just now getting started |
Not paying Fisher the 11 million and instead gambling on free agency/draft during this time frame that our team is competing for a championship would be the equivalent of not wearing a condom to an orgy.
Stretches your budget just a tiny bit but the risk is definitely not worth the marginal increase in benefit. |

this guy is the perfect example of wasting value to trade up for the 5th yr option you listening niner fans? |
only 17 of the 2013 1st round picks had that 5th yr option picked up

Print 'em.

Cordy Glenn just got a 5 year $65 million deal. Wow that kinda pushes Fisher's demands up a bit
|
Fisher > Okung
|
Why is this even a debate? Fisher is our LT and he is getting better for certain. This season will determine his worth. Personally I think he will be strong.
