Anybody watching Samsung Galaxy S4 launch?

So far some cool stuff.. nothing that is insanely cool so far but a ton of somewhat cool stuff...
  • 441 ppi screen
  • dual camera videos.. record from front/back cameras at same time
  • sound enabled pics
  • CRAZY FAST LTE (useless since carriers can't handle it)
  • Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi a b g n ac, and IR LED and MHL 2.0
  • 2GB of LPDDR Ram with 16GB of space. A 32 and 64 option is available, and it is expandable via SD Micro by 64GB
  • 2,600 mAh battery that's removable
  • S-Translator can handle nine language. It can handle speech to text and text to speech

More stuff coming...

AustinChief 03-14-2013 05:44 PM

HomeSync device available... 1TB appliance that you have at home that lets you auto sync all your media and view/play anywhere at home... not sure about that one yet

AustinChief 03-14-2013 05:46 PM

This presentation is just awful! It's like a grade school skit.

AustinChief 03-14-2013 05:48 PM

Samsung Knox... high end security that can separate out personal vs business sections of phone... pretty cool fro the BYOD crowd.

AustinChief 03-14-2013 05:53 PM

GROUP PLAY.. you can network all your Samsung phones to act as different speakers for same media.. so you can have dolby 5.1 using multiple phones

The Franchise 03-14-2013 05:57 PM

I know it's supposed to have the automatic scrolling feature.

AustinChief 03-14-2013 06:02 PM

The auto scroll feature wasn't as impressive as it should be.. it pauses when you look away but doesn't track eyes to scroll.. you have to lean phone front or back to scroll.

The presentation for all of this was painful to watch.

SAUTO 03-14-2013 06:04 PM

Damn I was hoping the auto scroll would be awesome.

Pretty cool that it can act as a remote with the IR blaster port.

Lot's of small to medium cool things but NOTHING that was SUPER WOW.

Was there anything that would justify the cost of an S4 over an S3? Starting to look at phones, and was thinking that if the S3 dropped in price when the S4 rolls around, that would be a good deal.

tk13 03-14-2013 06:28 PM

I believe Amazon already dropped the S3 to a penny with a new contract. With a renewal, I think it's $99.

Consistent1 03-14-2013 06:31 PM

How much is it supposed to cost with a plan?

Depends... The overall specs are better but nothing that makes it a MUST HAVE... so you need to determine if one of the other features is worth it.

The only thing that I would have to consider is the IR blaster which would let me use the phone as a universal remote. I'd find that convenient and could also wreak some havoc at bars... :D

tk13 03-14-2013 06:41 PM

It is amazing to me the number of people across the internet who seem disappointed because it looks similar to the S3. I have to admit I had no idea "style" was so important to so many people. Yeah you want it to look sleek, but really...

Vegas_Dave 03-14-2013 08:36 PM

8-Core 1.6GHz (or 4-Core 1.9 depending on region) & 13 megapixel camera. Those 2 things alone will make it a beast of a phone.

Thanks for the tip, have not check on prices for awhile. We have no contract at the moment, so am open to ideas.

similar specs of what my DNA already has. better camera, expandable memory, bigger battery. I liked the smart stay feature on my S3 so smart scroll and smart pause should be awesome

That alone makes me interested in the phone because I'm not interested in replacing an entire phone without a removable battery because it no longer holds a charge. However, it's still far too big. Need some midrange ~4inch phones.

I love the Galaxy Note II... i bet the Galaxy Note III will be even mo bad ass!

Where are you seeing this?

WoodDraw 03-15-2013 08:42 AM

If I could have picked one android manufacturer to hit it big, it would not have been Samsung.

S voice and translate? Err, what? I'll stick to Google now and translate, products that Google has put years into building.

The eye tracking stuff and hover touch is pure gimmicky to me. I suspect it'll be buggy as **** and only mildly useful.

DaveNull 03-15-2013 09:22 AM

The hover touch and eye tracking seems like a feature without a benefit. Will Samsung be updating the software on the S3 to support the software enhancements they're putting into the S4?

Agreed on most of the new features - it seems like a bunch of software bloat.

And I read somewhere that Samsung said they'll bring all non-hardware dependent updates to the SIII. Eventually.

Amazon Wireless. It might depend on your carrier, I'm not sure.
