Solving the Redskin Dilemma
Not that it's any of my business, but this kind of move happened in Baltimore, Cleveland, and Indy.
Problem: Political correctness wants Redskins to change their name. Dan Snyder doesn't want to. But political correctness will get louder and more obnoxious and probably won't spare anything to keep from having its way. Solution: Dan Snyder moves team to LA, or another suitable city, and renames the team with an appropriate name for the new city. One of the floundering NFL teams like Jacksonville moves to Washington DC with name change to something appropriate or maybe keeps their old name. But it has to be politically correct. Or Snyder sells Redskins to move and change, and buys the floundering team, moving it to Washington DC if he wants to own the team there. The beauty of this: Snyder can justify change and please everyone's sensibilities. NFL can "help" with process to see that it makes dollars and cents for everyone, and pleases everyone. Everyone can be shown to respect the politically correct bunch. League gets a team into LA, and fixes PC problem, and looks good doing it. This is a win-win-win.. win! Oh, and tell them the idea came from Color Red on Chiefs Planet. If that's not too politically incorrect!! |
redskins will never move.

So Daniel Snyder moves the Redskins to Los Angeles and calls them the Immigrants, Jacksonville loses the Jaguars, now called the Colonists, to DC and everyone's happy?

The Washington Abortion Doctors
Rename stadium to "the Free Clinic" They'll no longer offend PC-Americans and they stadium will have a waiting line when the gates open. |
America needs to quit being such a pussy
|
Why not rename them Washington Savages?
|
Washington Porkskins
|
offensive to Muslims and Jews....why so racist CPants
|
Unlike LA, people in Washington actually love football.
**** LA. The NFL has tried to make it work there, what? 3 times? 4 times? LA Chargers, LA Rams, LA Raiders... ****, I'm probably missing some teams. LA doesn't want the NFL. So ****'em. |
Ask the Cleveland Browns fans how excited they would have been if Modell had moved the team and that same year another team moved to Cleveland but they weren't named the Browns.
Stupidest idea ever. |
Yeah, the Skins are one of the great franchises to own.
Not going to happen. |
It's so stupid.
What do the Redskins gain by changing their name? About 5 percent of that fan base is behind it in all probability. |
Washington Readskins, problem solved.
|
they should change the name of their city to D.C. instead of Washington. we already have a place called Washington.
|
Redskins won't ever move. That's one of the most loyal fan bases in the NFL. And they have been pretty blah for the past 20 years.
|
It boggles the mind how backwards you people are that don't see the offensiveness of that name.
LMAO |

They ought to change their names to the DC Scourge. |

Here's an easy way to solve the dilemma. Tell the 2 assholes who claim to be "offended" by this to go **** an aids infested hippo and carry on like we have the last 640 years the Redskins have been a team.
|
"Washington Wagon-Burners".
Done deal. |
Have the people who are whinning about this come up with enough money to buy the team from Daniel Snyder. Then they can name it whatever they want,
|
The Redskins have just been around too long for me to take this storys sudden importance in the media seriously.
|
Must people refer to them as the Skins anyway. Washington Skins. Moobs for the males naked from the waist up.
|
Call them the Foreskins....everyone in Washington is just a bunch of dicks anyway.
|
Redskins for life.
|
Quote:
"Nuh-uh! Not Republicans!" Yep, they're ALL dicks. |
Now if he really wanted to be offensive he should change the name to the Washington Smallpox.
|
How about the Washington Tribesmen.
|
There's no dilemma.

Give the leaders of the groups protesting the name $20,000 gift certificates to the nearest liquor store and it will be the last time we hear of this shit.

Fedskins.

I don't see the issue with the name. Is the name meant in poor taste? I understand how it could be offensive to simpletons. But again, is the name meant to be derogatory? No. Don't like the redskins name? Don't spend your money on them. I hope Synder never gives into this PC crap.
|
Funny how this shit only happens when the Redskins and Chiefs are relevant.
|

Never heard of this crap during the Bush era honestly (Srs). Back in the mid-ish 2000's when the Chiefs were fairly relevant, this talk never happened. Then Taglibue retired and that ginger headed f**k came in...then Obama was elected President..and now Politics is in my f**king sports! Tired of this shit. |
The way to handle this is to find an ancient document from 1920 that says that the name of the team is really the Tea Partiers or the Raiders or the Bluebreeches or some other name that no NFL team currently uses. As it turns out, the name Redskins was just created by the media as a nickname, so now they're going back to their real name.

Given Washington once owned slaves, you can bet the next domino to fall after the team name will be the city's name itself.

Pathetic. Seems obvious that the group whining does not represent the majority opinion. Either way, this is Merica' and Snyder can do what he wants with the team name.
Changing it is obsurd. That group should spend their money on a neighborhood improvement project or open a business and get some people back to work. The things people bitch about sometimes is unbelievable! |

In fact it should be copy written and distributed to all in other such instances. |

Besides that, the Redskins brand name is worth quite a bit. Quote:

Yeah, that'll work.
I'm sure long time Redskins fans will be fine with saying goodbye to RG3 at QB, and hello to Blaine Gabbert/Chad Henne/? for the next 10 years. |
It's his team, he can name it whatever the **** he wants. If it starts affecting his profits, he can still name the team whatever he wants. I don't understand how anyone thinks they have the right to try and make him change it.
So you're offended, don't support them. End of story. |
Coming from someone with nothing but the utmost respect for Native Americans and who lives with them I can assure you they don't really give a flying **** about the name of an NFL team. When they start caring I'll start listening. Can anyone here who is Native American tell me they give a ****? Because I'm 99.9% sure this is self-loathing libby bullshit. Won't hold my breath.

This whole argument for changing the name has next to zero credibility.
1. If it is offensive now, it was offensive X number of years ago when the team was founded. 2. The name "Washington Redskins" is a brand. If Snyder thought he would gain a larger fanbase by changing the name, or lose a large number of fans for NOT changing the name, he'd do it in a heart beat. 3. This idea of pacifiying people who are offended by something rarely achieves anything. I doubt there has been anyone in the history of the US that has been impacted in their life because the football team in Washington DC name their club "Redskins". This needs to be put in the trash heap of meaningless debates yesterday. |

No, the Bullets didn't have a tenth of the name brand that the Redskins do, but one little libby victory gives them hope that more, much bigger victories will follow. It's nothing more than a group of people looking to pat themselves on the back and say "hey, look at what we accomplished." But they are picking a fight they have no chance of winning. Good luck with that . . . . |
I say change the names of ALL of the other teams to Indian names. I'd start with the Atlanta Apaches and the San Francisco Scalpers.
|
Oh, great. This thread again.
