Where is a good place to have lunch in Columbia?
Missouri that is. I'm going to be over there tomorrow and don't really want to do anything "standard".

At the Y.Yummy.
|
Bandanas is about as good BBQ as you're going to get outside KC/
|
only places I'm familiar w/are chains. you might hit up dj's left nut(that's funny after I read it).

Bandanas is a chain and not a very good one at that. |

G&D's Pizza (awesome Greek pizza)
House of Chow (fantastic Chinese food, right next door to G&D's) Hu Hot (Mongolian grill) |

Flat branch is a brew pub in downtown Columbia. Addison's is a good place downtown.
What are you looking for? Depends if you're looking for a dive kind of place, or a nice place, or pizza, or what... |
flat branch is great.
44 stone has great pub food (their cheese fritters ROCK) addison's is ok--I'm not a huge fan, but I'm not anti-addison's. if you like thai, bangkok garden is great. |

Avoid that Indian place on Broadway...
|
As of this moment Flat Branch has a slight lead over 44 Stone Pub.
I'm still listening though. |

There is a Greek place on Broadway (i think) that has a damn good gyro.

There's a rumor that there's a good BBQ shack on Bus. 70 by Firestone. Drive through only, very low rent. Haven't been there myself, so can't say for sure. For burgers, Booches on 9th. Pool hall, but the sliders are awesome. For fine dining there's Sycamore on Broadway, Grand Cru on Providence and a few other places. Lots of bars downtown, and I can't think of any place down there that was just bad. |

The Rome for Italian
Quentins for sandwiches (get the potato or cheddar soup in a bread bowl) CJ's for Chicken Wings - don't forget the loaded chips Flatbranch for a pretty good variety of lots of stuff and a decent micro-brew. The Gyro place is the International Cafe on 9th; very good Gyros. And Wise Guys pizza in the back of McNally's bar for the best pizza and the only decent Chicago Style in town. There are a few more, but that should get you started. |

They have a spicy sauce that's really strong and the owner's daughter is at the counter most days. She's pretty cute but she's just the friendliest damn thing you'll ever meet. They have hand-cut chips they make as well with a dozen different spices they put on them and a white-cheddar macaroni that's outstanding. I highly highly recommend it. |
G&D's pizza FTW!!!

And ultimately, Booch's has more bread than burger. Best burger in town is probably the Chokes and Cheese burger at Flatbranch or, sadly, Mad Cow/5 guys. The new Freddie's at Conley Road is damn good for a diner-style 'thinburger' and shoestring fries. |

When in Columbia, the best place to go is Lawrence.

it's better than most places here. they really don't do BBQ here. |

If you like Mexican, LaTarazas is down near Lutz's as well and very good; nice little patio and occasionally they'll have oysters that are pretty fresh and they serve with Cholula sauce and a lime - damn good.

However Mexican sounds good as well. |
Booches or Shakespeare's because they're the cliche places which are actually pretty solid. Finish up with some beers over at Sudsuckers/Big12/Campus Bar/Whatever they call it today.

I've had a great steak sandwich there and I do like the burger well enough, but by about halfway through it you're wishing it was gone. It's not bad, but it's not high on my list of places to go. |
Quote:
The biggest positive for me, though, was just the selection of beers and scotches. That was more my "meal." :D |

Stay away from any sizeable amount of the pepper beer. It's a fun thing to try as swig of, but even a pint is way too much. |
Let me ask this, is there anyone who interested in meeting up for lunch tomorrow? I don't think I've met any of the Colombia crew before. Hell, I'll even meet CoMo, show him the AR I am going out there to pick up and watch him piss his pants. :D

The Gyro at G&D at stadium and broadway is good. Flatbranch has good food. I haven't been to Booches in 20 years but it used to have pretty good food.
|
Flatbranch. Always rated #1. Brew their own beer which is always delicious. $4 for 18oz.
Honey Wheat is currently my favorite. If they aren't sold out you can try the green chili beer. It is interesting. edit: Upon reading a bit, I see Flatbranch has been recommended several times. So go there. I'll meet you there and by you a beer (I probably won't). |
Of the BBQ places in town not sure why people don't like Buckinghams...when I lived there it wasn't all that bad.
But most of the places I would suggest have already been mentioned. |
I suspect that since you are picking up a AR you are going to Black Rifle. Most of the places already mentioned are good suggestions but not near BR. There is a Mexican joint on Rangeline about 2 miles north of BR called Agave that is pretty good. A little further north is the 63 Diner which is hit and miss lately but kind of a cool 50's atmosphere (no alcoholic beverages).
|
Booche's on 9th for slider burgers and atmosphere. The chili is good too. Sub shop makes the best subs, like Planet Sub in KC only better. Nobody makes a better pizza than Shakespeare's. If you go to Boonville, you can go to Glenn's Cafe for cajun food. It's in the old Frederick Hotel by the Missouri River. Yummy.
|
Heck I forgot about Mugs Up too. Loose meat sandwiches, cheese zip with everything! No booze though.

I can PM you my # and when you're ready to eat, lemme know and maybe I'll have decided to be lazy (coming down with a bit of a spring cold so I have an excuse). |

LOL! It's a local Columbia dive! It is a drive in and looking at it you will be thinking WTF!! But the cheese zip or chili cheese dog are good. It's on the loop behind JJ's, been there for years. Heck I had three cheese zips for dinner tonight.
|
If someone hasn't said it yet, Flat Branch Brewing Company or The Pear Tree.
Edit; after reading through, I see Flat Branch has been mentioned multiple times. You wont be dissapoint! |

For pizza in Columbia, Shakespeares is so overrated. Kostakis? Now your talkin. |
CJs Hot Wings FTW!
|
Booches burgers
SheakspearsPizza, Flat Branch, good booze selection Birmingham's BBQ is identical to Zardas in terms of beans and sammiches - some people hate Zarda, I think their sammiches are good. That's about all I can think of off the top of my head for good "lunches". Everything else is your typical bar or is better for a dinner setting. |

Holy shit I forgot Quentins. Great soup and sammiches....I'd go there. Can't even count the number of times i'd eat there on a sunday mid day hungover as shit.
Tap House and Flat Branch are best if you're looking for booze though. Oh and as far as Chinese.....Peking Chinese is the best in town. next to the old Johnny's Be.anery (god damn language filter on this site) |
