Titans Agree to Terms with Former Chiefs DE Ropati Pitoitua

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Titans have agreed to terms with former Chiefs DE Ropati Pitoitua (pronounced ROE-pot-ee Puh-TOE-uh-two-ah).

“Ropati gives us the big body we were looking for at the defensive end position. He has a played a number of games and been productive,” Titans general manager Ruston Webster said. “He should be an asset for us in the run game at end and also could give us flexibility on game days with the ability to kick inside for some snaps.”

A four-year veteran, Pitoitua (6-foot-8, 315 pounds) has 37 games of NFL experience with the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs. In his only season with Kansas City last year, he started 10 games (15 games played) and led all Chiefs defensive linemen in tackles with 32. He also added two sacks, five tackles for loss and one forced fumble.

Pitoitua spent his first three seasons with the New York Jets and registered 22 games of experience. In his rookie season, he played in eight games but missed the entire 2010 season with an Achilles injury. In his final season with the Jets, he played in 14 games with 19 tackles, three tackles for loss and one sack.

Pitoitua originally joined the Jets as an undrafted free agent in 2009 from Washington State, where he played in 36 games and totaled 116 sacks, 19 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks.

Not heartbroken, but I liked him as a player. If Sutton didn't push them to re-sign, however, it might tell you something about his place in this system.

Oh Nooooo! First Maneri now Ropati. :( My two favorite reserves on both sides of the ball.

mdchiefsfan 03-25-2013 11:02 AM

This is why Tennessee has been irrelevant. They have been signing KC DL castoffs.

Direckshun 03-25-2013 11:02 AM

Yeah I thought Ropati earned a spot with serious playing time, however. He wasn't going to get that with DeVito, Jackson, and Bailey. (Said the same guy who said he wouldn't get serious playing time with Dorsey, Jackson, and Bailey last year.)

Mr. Laz 03-25-2013 11:05 AM

i thought he was a good backup guy.

too bad

OrtonsPiercedTaint 03-25-2013 11:07 AM

I want to hear that name in a country twang.

gblowfish 03-25-2013 11:08 AM

So long, Ratboy Pituitary.
Best Chiefs name since Slappy Pistachio.

Cannibal 03-25-2013 11:13 AM

He performed better than Dorsey and Jackson in his limited playing time.

No loss AT ALL

Rain Man 03-25-2013 11:27 AM

I'm a bit surprised by this. He wasn't a star, but he seemed serviceable in an area where we have zero depth.

Plus, I really liked saying 'Ropati Pitoitua". For some reason it rolls off my tongue very mellifluously.

The correct term is Qpati Qtoitua.

Good. He was way overrated by almost everyone here.

Literally got praise for a sack he recorded when he was completely unblocked.

CoMoChief 03-25-2013 11:59 AM

I was hoping he'd be kept. He was our best DL last season unfortunately.

Poe, by the end of the year was the best DL. Sure it's not saying much, but he improved as the year went on. Don't even think it's that much of a stretch to say that.

Not even close.

Dude was horrible against the run.

Hammock Parties 03-25-2013 01:21 PM

Dorsey has been the best DL on this team since Allen left.

He is the one who has most consistently held up against the run.

None of them can rush the passer so he wins.

BlackHelicopters 03-25-2013 01:23 PM

My namesake is gone.

Deberg_1990 03-25-2013 01:25 PM

Well.........

"you know the rest"....

Bump 03-25-2013 01:25 PM

he was better than Glen Dorsey

KC_Lee 03-25-2013 01:33 PM

Can't wait to hear Frank Wycheck stumble over Pitoitua's name. Seriously, dude sounds like he either took a few to many blows to the head or has a stash of pot brownies near him at all times.

MrGiggity 03-25-2013 02:33 PM

Que "well,bye" gif.

This accurately sums up how I feel about quite a few posters here on CP. I view you as Monty.

Probably not. This was his best season and he had 51 combined tackles.

Dorsey's best season he had 69.

boogblaster 03-25-2013 05:48 PM

thought he was a decent back-up .. we need back-ups to give the starters a breathe .....

penbrook 03-25-2013 06:04 PM

Lol Florida Gulf Coast fans at a pep rally were chanting "**** the Gators"

TRR 03-25-2013 06:24 PM

LOL! When i joined this board, the posters followed the trend of every player that left from KC sucked, stunk, was terrible. Anyone KC signed via free agency was exactly the opposite. Now, anyone that leaves was great and anyone that is signed sucks balls. My how things have changed.

I think recent Chiefs history, especially the last four years has caused some justified pessimism. And now many want to get out ahead of moves and decisions they're not sure about. It's easier to say something sucks, and if you're wrong, you get to be pleasantly surprised, than to have a hopeful optimistic take, and be let down.

chefsos 03-25-2013 07:17 PM

I can't help but think that somewhere in these webs a Titans fan typed "print 'em" today.

Shows how much you were actually watching the games.
