Gary Oldman Leads Human Resistance In ‘Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes’
EXCLUSIVE: Gary Oldman is joining Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the Matt Reeves-directed sequel to Fox’s successful ape reboot Rise of the Planet of the Apes. William Clarke and Kodi-Smit McPhee have already been set. I’m told that Oldman will play Dreyfus, leader of the human resistance after the apes have taken power. Fox has set the film for release on May 23, 2014. Oldman most recently starred in Lawless and The Dark Knight Rises, and will next be seen in the Robocop remake for MGM. He’s repped by Douglas Management Group and APA. |

Nice.

Nice.
I always hoped this would get a 2nd chance with a serious approach. |
LOVED the first one and found myself rooting for the apes over the humans throughout the movie.
A couple things about this one: 1) Cesar's got war paint and spears in the trailer; I wonder how they're going to play off the war between the apes and humans. Seems pointless for the people after they've spent 8 years fighting off the virus and each other. 2) I wonder if all of the apes will be speaking. |
I'm looking forward to it. I rented almost the entire original series of films (skipped the goofy nuke worshipper one) to watch with my kids when I heard about the first one, then we saw it in a theater together.
|
Looks like it may be good.
So I assume his previous owner is not in this one? Dr. Rodman? |
Nice, 1st one was way better than I was expecting, and I think Jason Clarke is an awesome actor who happens to be in a bunch of my favorite movies and tv shows.

If I remember correctly, he is not supposed to be in this one in part because he was already committed to other projects during the shooting schedule, but it wasn't anticipated he figured to be featured heavily or this portion of the saga would involve him much. Plans for future films could see his return over the course of the story arc, and there was chatter that they might have him in a limited cameo role if it could work out. The other thought was they may be able to use footage from the last movie that never made the final edit if needed. |

No idea how they're using Arnold given his age unless they plan on heavily using digital alteration and how he's shot along with face makeup. It's pretty remarkable some of the face makeup and prosthetics they can use to make older actors look like they did 20-30 years ago these days. I can't remember the movie I'm thinking of right now, but the technique used was dramatically authentic and looked truly like the actors did decades ago. |

As for Schwarzenegger, my bet is he's some kind of military guy they based the T-1000 after, so he'll be the older, human counterpart to the original. |

What truly pisses me off about that was there was supposed to be at least 2 more films involving the principle cast. The 2nd film being The Real Rock N' Rolla . As of now, I don't think Ritchie can get the greenlight from the original studio or $$$ from an outside source to make even the next installment. If you look at all the names of who starred in the movie- so many of them have taken off, I'd venture to guess it would draw an audience, but now the question is whether they can afford everyone? Just some of the people in it: Gerard Butler, Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, Tom Wilkinson, Mark Strong, Thandie Newton, Karel Roden (an internationally acclaimed Czech actor, who always ends up playing cold, ruthless villains in Hollywood movies), Jeremy Piven, Toby Kebbell, Ludacris, Jimi Mistry, Matt King and Gemma Arterton UPDATE: I found this quote from Ritchie when asked about it around the end of 2011. Quote:
The Man from U.N.C.L.E. has picked up, with Tom Cruise no longer attached, but Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer, Hugh Grant so far announced. Plus, screen rights to Thomas Kelly's Empire Rising have just recently been secured, and the studio is leaning heavy on him directing that. Not to mention, I'm sure there's a commitment for a followup Sherlock Holmes undoubtedly in the next 24-36 months. Dammit! |
I liked the rest of the movies and will prob watch this one on DVD as well.
|
Rockin' Rolla just got added to the top of my Netflix list. Not sure I missed it before now. :thumb:

I still contend that they ****ed up on the title for the previous one and this one. They should be flip flopped. It would make more sense if this one is the RISE of TPOTA.

This is the movie I've been dying to see. Sounds like it has delivered. Great news.

An early review.
Dawn is to Rise of the Planet of the Apes what The Empire Strikes Back was to Star Wars — it’s that much better. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/mov.../review/715555 |

Man, Rise didn't get much hype but I thought that one was great. Very, very enjoyable.
If this one is so much better, I'll be in danger of jizzing everywhere. |

I am totally stoked for this movie. |

In other words it's the Godfather part 2 of the franchise. |

Tomatometer Consensus: With intelligence and emotional resonance to match its stunning special effects, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes expands on its predecessor with an exciting and ambitious burst of sci-fi achievement. |
