Is Miami screwed?
|
I'm in the Tampa area. This area has never taken a direct hit from a hurricane. I live on the water just off shore on an Island.
Talking to the old timers, this one has them spooked. Maybe its what happened to Houston, Katrina and this is a Cat 5? Most of these hurricanes come up from Miami and head up toward us. They lose a lot of power by the time they get up here to us. But, a cat 5 could be a Cat 2/3 by the time it hits our area. Talked to some co-workers I worked with in the past that live in the Miami area and all of them are heading north. Kind of freaked me out when I offered my place for them to make it north and they said, not far enough north, you need to get out too. |
Stay safe everyone. This one looks worse than the last.
|
i was going on a trip to Miami Thursday, and flying to Puerto Rico Saturday. Plans have been cancelled.

Sarasota here, lots of people spooked on this one. Same people who are normally quite passive about hurricanes.

Too many variations of where it could go to do anything but prepare. Depending on the model and direction we could be right in the middle of the hurricane or 200 miles west. Today and tomorrow will tell more

Praying it just hooks back out to sea. |

Heading up to Atlanta with the family before the storm hits.

All that rain heading to New England on Thursday, bring your rain cleats, Chiefs.

Be smart and safe everyone.

Stay safe everyone

Gotta be real fun in the South Florida area when after a hurricane of this magnitude you have to survive the flooding, the criminal gangs of Haitians trying to loot and shoot you and then all the alligators swimming around streets and neighborhoods looking for an easy meal as you wade in chest high water!
I'll pass on Florida..... |
I live in Key West, so needless to say I'm shitting bricks.

Does that shit come in 55 gallon barrel drums? Staylor might need about a dozen of them if they do.
|
Up in Jacksonville, FL.. watching Irma pretty close. I've been through several hurricanes, but this looks like a freaking beast. It is at 180 mph sustained wind. Wherever this hits is going to be some terrible devastation.

Just went out and got bottled water and a few dry provisions. Still have some stuff left over from Matthew in October.

Jax here. Supplies are already snapped up. My plan is to head to Tallahassee and camp. I did that for floyd and it worked great. Took the tent and golf clubs and played 3 days at FSU.
|
The real issue with these that go straight north from Miami is the traffic on the highway. 8 million in Miami alone. Sometimes better to head south instead. Always thought the stadium is good place to hide too.

Amazon Prime works great.. just got more light sources, batteries, and glass gallon jugs for water. All being delivered tomorrow or Thursday at the latest. |

West Palm Beach here. I can see the intercoastal and Atlantic from my balcony. Stocked up on supplies this weekend before it got nuts. Went out for lunch today and all of the stores are slammed. Pretty nuts to see the traffic in every store parking lot. Looks like black Friday out there.
Car is gassed up. Only way I am leaving is if it is a Cat 5. Have a back up plan in Orlando if it comes to that. Stay safe everyone. |
220 mph gusts, 180 mph sustained winds. Only 6 hurricanes have had higher winds since they started tracking hurricanes.
|
Time to pack up and head north, Florida guys. It's not worth it to stick around.

I was out earlier at WalMart having my tires looked at.......they put out 4 skids of water when I was there..about 45 minutes later it was all gone. We have the supplies and other things stocked up too....still hoping for a better turn of events. |

Now I climb those screened pool enclosures like spiderman. The harder it it hits, the easier the work though. Like I said, If it nukes the place. All you need is a truck and a chainsaw. I focus on window replacement after that. GOOD money there. Nobody wants a hole sucking out AC for very long.. |
