Free agent Chris Canty visiting the Kansas City Chiefs
http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2013/2...as-city-chiefs
Does free agent Chris Canty spark your interest? The New York Giants released the defensive lineman last week and now he's visiting the Kansas City Chiefs. This according to Mike Garafolo of USA Today: Mike Garafolo @MikeGarafolo Btw, former Giants DT Chris Canty visited the Titans over the weekend and will now meet with the Chiefs. Could be more visits coming. Interesting. Very interesting. You know what position Canty played in New York? Right defensive end, same as Glenn Dorsey, who is of course a free-agent-to-be on March 12. We haven't heard rumblings as to whether Dorsey will be back but the general thinking outside the team is that he won't be. There's also the issue of the large sum of money that's due to Tyson Jackson. |
Also of some note would be that he would not offset any FA compensation we might get for losing Dorsey (and only Dorsey...I'm not contemplating losing Bowe or Albert), though with Reid looking to rebuild the squad, I'd imagine we'll be active enough in free agency to offset our losses either way.

Great get.
|
As long as Dorsey and Jackson are gone.....I'd be happy with this signing.
|
Cut jacksons sorry ass and spend that money on this guy, or anyone else not named tyson jackson.

RT @Tomm_Rossi Can both Canty and Bradshaw sign before March 12th since released? ... Yes. So can Nick Barnett, Demetress Bell, etc. |
If we sign this guy he's gonna make us LOL at how bad Jackson and Dorsey were as pass rushers.
|
oh **** they are definitely going to bring nick barnett in
dammit lol |
Sign Canty and Shaunghessy the defensive line is taken care of this off season.

RT @ByTimGraham: The Buffalo Bills have released safety, captain and NFLPA rep George Wilson, sources tell The Buffalo News. |

Barnett could be a very nice addition alongside DJ. The last guy is kinda dead now, so we need someone that can do the job credibly. That shouldn't stop us from drafting an ILB at some point, but Barnett could be a very good addition. |

Chris Canty draws interest from Titans and Chiefs
Posted by Josh Alper on February 11, 2013, 1:49 PM EST ReutersThe Giants let defensive tackle Chris Canty go last week and he isn’t wasting any time trying to find a new team. Mike Garafolo of USA Today reports that Canty has visited with the Titans and lined up a visit with the Chiefs since getting released in a cost-saving move by the Giants. Garafolo also reports that Canty is expected to make more visits in the coming weeks. The interest in Canty isn’t surprising. With free agency not starting for another month, there aren’t many experienced contributors out on the open market at this point in time. Canty also has experience playing in both 4-3 and 3-4 fronts, versatility that will help him continue to draw interest from teams looking to solidify their defensive line for the 2013 season. Kansas City is expected to run a 3-4 under new defensive coordinator Bob Sutton, so Canty would likely slot in as an end with the Chiefs. Defensive end Glenn Dorsey is a free agent while Tyson Jackson is a long shot to return thanks to middling production and a salary in excess of $14 million for 2013 under his current deal. Tennessee doesn’t have as many expected departures from their 4-3 front, but Canty would certainly find a place on a run defense that gave up more than 127 yards per game in 2012. |
Nick Barnett is barely 230 lbs....there's no way he can play inside.

George Wilson could be a very nice signing. He was the 8th highest rated safety on PFF. Very good in coverage.
|
Should be interesting to see how John Dorsey goes about his business in free agency this offseason.
Greg Jennings Nick Barnett A couple DL that might get the axe Bowe Dorsey Colquit Jackson Albert Lots of talking points, for sure. |
Canty's had retina surgery? I like him already....

Clay where does Shaunghessy rank among D-ends? We'll need more than just Canty whos a good player but often injured.

Though I'll concede, I didn't realize he was only 230 (I had 240-250 in my head). He'd be a little bit light, but not so much as to make the shift undoable. The problem would be instilling the attackers mentality he'd need; not sure he can just develop a bangers desire to crack skulls this late in his career. |

Go get him, Andy

#Bills release of George Wilson likely indicates 0 percent chance Jairus Byrd gets away. Either long-term deal or franchise tag. |

Obvious post is obvious, but Canty is better than anything we have currently.
ANd I'd take Wilson, too. |
Barnett could be Dorsey's Mike Vrabel...bring on the tree signings!

Solid player, but a bit overrated. 19 sacks in 10 years doesn't exactly scream pass-rush specialist.

If we sign him people are going to love him after 4 years of bullshit 2-gap mudders. He can actually get off a ****ing block. |
Do want. I will suck that big canty cane

When did you ever read shit like this about Jackson or Dorsey?

Barnett's been through so many injuries. It'd be like when the Wolves signed Brandon Roy to shore up their SG depth. |
canty is probably a solid stop gap assuming we're shedding at least one of dorsey/jackson...
but given the number of vets we've brought in the last couple of years who have done jack shit, i'm not going to get too excited.. |

Uh, he played ILB in Capers 3-4 in GB... |
Something is weird because I swear he was 250 lbs when he was in Green Bay.
Did he drop weight? |

Sources say William Moore (#Falcons) wants to test free agency. Same people tell me he's open to a return to Missouri. #Chiefs #Rams |

Besides, I'm not worried about him weighing anywhere from 230-240. Lighter ILBs who can cover are much more necessary than 250-270 ILBs who blow people up. You need 1 of those guys on the roster but he doesn't need to be starting especially considering how often teams throw out of base personnel anyways. IMO |

I love me some Willy Mo, but he will be 28 next year and that's right around the time that nagging injuries become injuries that cause guys to miss games rather than just play dinged up. It's also around the time that injuries that used to sit them for a week or two start sitting them for 3 or 4.
Don't get me wrong, I'll be excited if we get him, but we need to go into it with both eyes open - we're not likely to get 16 games from him...ever, so we'll need to be prepared to still address the position either through another depth acquisition or a draft pick. Canty is a similar creature, but even worse. |

Ok now your KC/Chris Canty update: His visit has ended. Will head back home and mull Chiefs/Titans. No other visits scheduled at this point. |
Hmm well see what happens in the next few days
