Redskins didn't have much cap space ($6.3 mil) but did have cash, as @AlbertBreer noted. With bonus may have gotten close to $9-10 mil/year.

Cap space can be made if you defer it to future years. It doesn't disappear.

We all have had discussions about how signing a QB like Eli and Flacco is a tough decision because it ruins the ability to build around that QB. Does that argument suddenly change because it's convenient? Or would we agree that you can't just magically make a contract disappear.

Teams like Denver and New England and New Orleans are putting all their eggs in their basket to protect a core that includes Peyton, Brady, and Brees… three unique HOF talents who can single-handedly carry a team to a Super Bowl and each of whom has won at least one.

The Chiefs are putting their eggs into the basket of a RB and a pass rusher who have never won a playoff game.

With all due respect I think the eggs that the chiefs hold are being put into Alex Smith's basket. 2 number twos, a more than likely contract extension, etc. In terms of the running back who never won a playoff game went out in the first half of the playoff game and was doing just fine. The pass rusher you speak of is a young ascending star.

At what point did he "fall into our lap"? There were a bunch of teams interested, even if we had gone after him there is no guarantee that we would have gotten him. That is a far cry from "falls into our lap".

It's awesome to be a chiefs fan. Next year we can get a long snapper in the first if the cards fall just right.

That doesn't really answer my question. Jackson in no way fell into our lap. He became a free agent, with as many as 9 teams being interested at various times.

He and anyone pushing for guys like Desean Jackson are basically pushing for the Chiefs to go all in to win now with this core, even if that means a painful rebuild 3 years from now. We keep talking about this core as if we have a bunch of irreplaceable guys. Charles and Hali are really tough guys to lose. Most of the others are borderline pro bowlers and not even close to being the best at their position. I like our core but it isn't nearly as good as people claim it is.

Some of these guys want us to go all in every year. They are incapable of thinking of the future or the consequences of going all in. They only care about instant gratification.

As usual, they path is a winner........

I mean, some parts I get. Trading for Alex Smith for 2 seconds is instant gratification. The Chiefs went instant gratification last year and are choosing not to this year. The part I disagree with is when people talk about our core as if they are some kind of dream team. Apart from Hali and Charles, most of the guys we're talking about aren't even CLOSE to being the best at their position.

Agree. KC has decided to sit out the free agency period. With a limited amount of picks, it will be hard to see this years team finishing anywhere near last years. I can't remember a time where FA removed so many players away without doing anything to plug the hole they left.
