Panasonic Plasmas?

I have been researching TVs and I think I want the Panasonic 50" Plasma S60.

Does anyone own a TV in the S60 line?

seaofred 11-25-2013 12:31 PM

I'm not sure what line my 50" Panasonic Plasma is, but I've had it about 3 years. Love it, no problems what so ever.

This. We've had ours for around 2-3 years now and have no complaints.

notorious 11-25-2013 01:56 PM

Yes.

They are awesome.

ToxSocks 11-25-2013 02:32 PM

I own a Panasonic Plasma, 46" i think. I love the thing, it's been great. It also communicates with other Panasonic Devices via HDMI. I have a Panasonic home theater connected to it and it powers on/off and switches outputs/inputs based off what the T.V is doing.

It's simple....but oh so awesome. All I have to do is hit power on my Bluray player and the TV switches inputs for me.

God I'm lazy.

Hell yeah it is. I use to have Macros set up on a Universal remote to do that. That was a pain in the ass because the Macros would reset everytime i changed the batteries.

kepp 11-25-2013 02:43 PM

I have a 42" Viera model and its been great.

seaofred 11-25-2013 02:44 PM

The last time I checked. Panasonic were #1 for Plasma's and Samsung for LCD's. I don't know who for LED's.

The Bad Guy 11-25-2013 03:18 PM

I would marry my Panasonic plasma. Best tv I've ever owned.

TinyEvel 11-25-2013 03:21 PM

Agree with the above. I had a 2007 65" Viera in my last house. Bought a 60 Viera SmartTV with 3D (which I didn't want and never use but it's an option that came with it) when I recently moved. Only complaint is whenever you turn it on the Home Menu for the smart TV comes up rather than defaulting to full-screen cable TV feed. You just have to push the exit button every time.

Also, the speakers on all the flatscreens now are in the edge of the backside of the TV, designed to bounce acoustically off its surroundings. I bought a sound bar for better sound. But it's a big room and I wanted more crisp sound.

007 11-25-2013 03:42 PM

Love my Panasonic S50 50" plasma.

DJJasonp 11-25-2013 04:08 PM

I have a GT60.....and it blows away my samsung LED. Best tv hands down.

And awesome for gaming and fast motion sports

TambaBerry 11-25-2013 05:44 PM

I have that exact tv, bought it in June I love the picture. The only downside is if there is a lot of light in the room there is a small glare on it. Other then that its amazing looks so good.

The Bad Guy 11-25-2013 07:02 PM

I have the ST60 model. It was the only 5 start review I've ever seen on CNET for Tv's.

SAUTO 11-25-2013 07:05 PM

Damn speakers in the back? In my room I have one of those mounts that angle out from the wall and I doubt that would work well with the TV at a 45 degree angle from the wall

Just get a sound bar. I got a LG wireless soundbar that's ****ing fantastic. Streams bluetooth too so I can load Lenny and Mitch on my smartphone and just stream it to the soundbar.

No problem. Really love the sound bar.

I can't rave enough about the Panasonic ST60 and the LG sound bar. 2 of the best entertainment purchases I've ever made.

Buck 11-25-2013 07:54 PM

OMFG you guys. After posting this thread I randomly searched Slickdeals for "panasonic plasma" to see if there was anything and the exact ****ing model I want was on sale at Sears down from $800 at $500.

It's the 50" S60. And I signed up for some rewards program when I bought it and got an extra $18 back.

Get this shit while it's hot.

Buck 11-25-2013 09:00 PM

Wow this tv ****ing rocks. Sucks it only has 2 hdmi inputs though

Miles 11-25-2013 09:55 PM

I have the ST50 55" and it has been great. Excellent picture for the price so long as you don't have an overly bright room. Should be some nice deals out there with Panasonic announcing they are killing off their plasma line.

Only warning is be mindful of image retention. I have a tendency to use ESPN or ESPNNews as background TV while doing other stuff and all of static crap they put on the screen has a way of sticking around (use zoom if you have a similar same habit).

ive never had any problem with my tv with that, and thats all i really watch

Buck 11-25-2013 10:11 PM

I'm worried about retention but from what I've read it's not an issue on this TV. However, I turned on my PS3 and then played Planet Earth and on the bluray menu, it is completely black, I could see a little retention of the PS3's XMB.

It'll go away. I've had a Viera for 3 or 4 years now and you know I play vidja games. A LOT. You also know vidja games have A LOT of static images (HUD). There has not been any permanent damage yet.

You're going to love this TV. Can't get those legit blacks anywhere else outside of a CRT and those don't even exist any more. :)

I got the 42" version of that tv for my kids 6 months ago for $399.

The netflix/amazon streaming is awesome. It's a great tv except for the sound.

notorious 11-25-2013 10:20 PM

Why is Panasonic phasing out their plasmas again?

Buck 11-25-2013 10:28 PM

Sweet stuff guys. I'm gonna try out the Netflix app after I take the dog out. Happy I don't have to use my PS3 to Netflix anymore.

Think something do with cheaper LED LCDs and declining market share/sales of plasma sets.

It goes away but seems to take a while showing content with all movement. From what I have I may have just managed to get one that is a little more sensitive than average. Considering picture quality for the price I can deal with it.

I hate Sharp TV's with a passion.

The motion blur on the one I had last year was ****ing unbearable.

Mr. Laz 11-27-2013 08:22 PM

It's listed as a Smart Television but specs say it doesn't have streaming or web browsing.

what is so 'Smart' about it?

has i think 8 apps on it. netflix, amazon, etc

Setsuna 11-27-2013 11:27 PM

Plasmas are all less energy efficient than LCDs which are less efficient than LEDs.

Gonzo 11-27-2013 11:35 PM

You're in good shape with either a Samsung or Panasonic.

It has Netflix and a bunch of other streaming apps (Netflix and Hulu among others). I've used Netflix every night.
