This is a crime against humanity
|
Now I'm sad
|
Man, what a goddamn shame.
|
Would they just leave shit alone??? There’s no need to remake a classic..
|
Hollywood delivering some shit no one is asking for
|
Who greenlights this shit...
"You know what we need? A Roadhouse remake with Jake Gyllenhaal and Conor McGregor..." |
Young people don't even go to bars anymore
Hollywood: Let's reboot Road House with a strong female POC as the owner |
Quote:
"Why in the hell cant you leave well enough, alone." I have applied that to a lot of places. This is one of them No way in hell will I be watching this or the twister "reboot" **** that shit. |
Horrible.
|
awful. Swayze was a legit badass with awesome 80's hair. Gyllenhaal is a pussy. I dont care that he has abs now. He's just a pussy with vanity muscles a boring haircut. Jake isn't going to make any cooters dewey the way Patrick did.
and the female lead; she is a plain Jane. and she has lines. wtf? I bet she and Dalton keep everything platonic in this reboot. |
This looks dumb as **** and Connor has no ability to act.
But I bet it's a good time. |
Oh my god it looks dumb.
Saw Gillenhall, thought "maybe". As soon as the first lines came out I facepalmed. |
The comments on YouTube are downright reeruned.
Unless they are paid posters, THEY'RE the reason we keep getting remakes. |
Heh. I'll probably watch it. This would go over way better if they didn't call it Road House.
I should fire up the original. |
Good god. This looks awful.
|
It looks like the exact same story with some UFC angle
I shouldn't underestimate the Fast & Fury/MMA crowd so this will probably do well enough but how hard is it to come up with a new story and title around splosions and fighting |

The original was a fun, but extremely silly, movie. I seriously doubt that there is some hidden, layered bouncer subculture, but having never been a bouncer, I guess I wouldn't know. The "I thought you'd be taller" bit was amusing. Swayze sold it well, though, and Sam Elliott was great as always. It did kind of go off the rails when it turned into Rambo at the end. I just checked Gyllenhaal's movies on IMDb. I can count on one hand the number of movies he's been in that I've seen and actually liked, and still have some fingers left over. Only October Sky stands out. And the mere thought of Donnie Darko still spins me into a rage. :# No plans to watch this. Ever. |
Jake Gyllenhaal has a very punchable face. I'd be willing to give it a try if it was a movie just about him being beaten up, but I'll pass on this.
|
So this is the third Patrick Swayze movie to be remade.
And it looks to be the third to suck. I will say it again-remakes are people telling someone else's story. |
Might be worth a watch to see Connor’s throat ripped out.
|
This looks fun.

So the goal here was to make the worst possible movie while taking a piss on one of the greatest action movies of all time?

and why we are on the subject of Roadhouse. Did anyone ever think there was a correlation between the ending and Ken Rex Mcelroy? |
Won't be as good as the Peter Griffin version:

Best part of the original movie was that you could clearly see the Sierra Nevadas all the way from Jasper, MO. That's some impressive cinematography.

And them trucks
|
cant believe they re-made my favorite movie
this version looks a little to intellectual for me though |
|
I caught the first 30 minutes or so.
Doesn't have nearly the same charm as the original.
Spoiler!
|
I started it, and there are odd CGI scenes. The script is awful, but the Worst part of the movie so far is Connor.
|
Movie is awful. Characters are boring and worthless. You simply don't care what happens in the end. Big let down. Jake was good but that's it.
|
Ya this movie is terrible. I like how he got ran over by a truck twice and was "like, no problem I'm good"
|
Terrible
|
Yeah as really IMHO, kind of dishonors the memory of beloved Patrick Swayze!
|
NOTE: I haven’t seen the original.
I didn’t hate it. I came for the violence and it was good. It didn’t belabor anything. Just got to the punching. Decent little mystery about how it was going to work out. I didn’t hate the idea of him being scared to lose control. It didn’t take itself too seriously. I thought McGregor was a good psycho. You know. Because psycho. Meh. Mindless violence but at least it did it well. |

How can you sit in that combine all those hours for all those years and NOT have seen the original Roadhouse??? Watch it just so this gif makes sense https://th.bing.com/th/id/R.855f0f55...pid=ImgRaw&r=0 |

Still surprises me you have not seen the original. |
Spoilers.
It was decent for being free. Jake does a good job. Good realistic fights scenes. Doesn't hold back on killing. They didn't really flesh out characters. Definitely better than the other roadhouse remake. He is not the old Dalton. |

How is that even possible? |
Reviews are not very positive. I'll still watch it though

I think the crux of the issue is that the original was set in KC. That hits the nostalgia bone harder for you guys.

Again, I will state I think the scene where the bad dude is shot by everyone and no one knows about it, is a nod to Stanberry, Mo.
Ken Rex McElroy. Never been solved. No one talks. |
Every single review says its big, dumb, and stupid
Rainy day $5 rental 2 months from today |

One of my friends was a deputy sheriff in Nodaway County about 30 years ago. He said Skidmore was a creepy place and he didn't like to go there. The locals really kept to themselves and massively distrusted outsiders. As far as I know to this day nobody was ever charged. Which is good, because that ****er definitely needed killin'. :bang: |
The first movie is a classic because it took a ridiculous premise on with absolute sincerity. The situation was idiotic, but it was made with skill and care. It's okay to try.
This version was far, far too self aware, and it hamstrung the movie. The CGI and dubbing of the voices took me completely out of the viewing experience. If you go back and watch the first scene with the bookshop girl, almost all of her lines were dubbed. Most of McGregor too. Combine that with the CGI editing of all the punches, which might be the worst 'development' to hit filmmaking since CGI blood replaced squibs, and it looked like something you'd get from a first-year film student trying to ape Michael Bay. The first movie has a tight script with little wasted action. What is the point of the female love interest? How did her accent make any sense? How does Gyllenhaal become a munitions expert? Who was Joe Burrow's dad? Why was Bucho in this at all? What was the point of the post-credits scene except to fulfill the Leprechaun's ego? What an awful mess that was. I can't believe that's the best editing they could do. How did Doug Liman go from making The Bourne Identity to that? If Amazon renamed it Glass Key it would still be hog shit, but 1000 times less offensive. |
But did the new one have music by a blind, steel guitar player?
|
What's with the slapping?

This movie is a good time for anyone who spends more time watching the movie than huffing their own anal vapor and fancying themselves a film critic.
Gyllenhaal carries the film well, and it was a fun watch. If you saw the trailer, then you understood what kind of film this was going to be. People getting rocked with haymakers that would literally kill a normal person, and an outrageous antagonist. If you expected something more then you weren't paying attention. |

You do understand that this film in no way erases or replaces the 1989 film, right? Anyone not having seen the 89 version needs to be forewarned that it's mostly nostalgia forcing the recommendation, because it's easily as ridiculous as this film was. |

Remember when that girl was murdered and her baby pulled out of her lifeless body in Skidmore. Great place to visit
|
It wouldn't have been that bad but Conor McGregor was terrible. Yeah he can do fight scenes but his character and acting was a joke.
|
Jake absolutely carried this movie, but Connor almost ruined it. I hate the ****ing guy with a passion and his walk makes me want to kick puppies. Even with Connor looking like he had shit in his pants this movie wasn't terrible. I enjoyed it for what it was. The CGI was pretty ridiculous and the voice dubbing was stupid, but the action was cool. JG was great and funny. I think he was perfect for the roll and pretty much anyone else would have made this flop hard.
Never saw the original either. |
If yall want to see Gyllenhaal at his best, watch "Nightcrawler". Amazing movie.

PS: Also The Great Mortimer aka Harley Race was from Quitman Missouri and supposedly had run-ins with Ken Rex. He is rumored along with the Sherrif of Nodaway Co as one of the trigger pullers. Harley still held land around Quitman till his death in 2019. He often came back from home near St Louis, especially around hunting season. He liked the bar in the hall basement in Burlington Junction Mo. He was a hell of a good dude and Mason. I doubt he was involved. Ok done hijacking this as long as Penz quits bringing back memories. |

If you don't want to watch it and keep the original sacred then by all means....go ahead. Who gives a shit though? There have been remakes that blew the original out of the water and some that haven't. |
I didn't think it was possible for me to dislike Connor McGregor any more than I already did, until after this movie.
|
What a horrible movie... jfc. How did anyone write that down and think it reflected the first one in the least?
|
Thought this was good for what it was, but I wish they leaned even more into the ridiculous camp. It’s such a dumb story and I think they grasped that in some scenes but less so in others.
