I figured it might be a good idea to separate Chiefs signings from the Free Agency Megathread.

Any word on signing Neal Down?

jjchieffan 03-11-2024 04:37 PM

Well, the Chiefs have no room for a splash signing, so this thread will likely only have news of re-signings and losses. Unless they sign anyone that's been cut, I see very little in the way of free agents additions between now and the draft. That way, they won't offset any compensatory picks that we would receive for our expected defections.

Tyrann Mathieu signed a 3 year, $42,000,000 contract with the Kansas City Chiefs, including a $14,800,000 signing bonus, $26,800,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $14,000,000.?

They make a big signing seemingly every year.

Plus we reset the G market with Thuney, and Sammy Watkins was the top WR when we signed him. And Frank Clark was technically not a free agent signing, but I think it counts for the purposes this discussion.

There will be plenty of tier 2 or 3 guys that will end up with a contract from Veach, we just gotta wait and see what the market will give us.

So 2 players lost so far. I'm curious about the comp picks that Veach is going to accumulate this off-season. Tommy signed a top 5 contract for his position,, but he's a punter. So maybe a 6th? And Allegretti signed to be a starter, so would that be a 6th as well? Gay will probably get the highest comp pick. What would his pick be? A 4th? If someone signed Danna to be a starter, what would the pick be for him? I think that 4 is the max for player losses. I don't that any other players that we would be losing would get us any higher than those 4. Maybe Edwards but I doubt it

Nnadi just had a career year. He was solid vs. the run and actually got some push in the pass rush occasionally this year. He's a good dude and he's solid.

I'm fine with 1 and 2 year contracts with him forever...

He was better this year... not debatebable, and to be fair, he was not good at all the previous two years. However, he's cheap, knows the system, and Spags seems to trust him.

He is one of those players, that when he retires and everyone learns how much he played hurt during his career, people will rethink how they view him as a player.

All players play hurt, but anyone who has ever hurt their back should be able to attest to how painful little things can be, like holding a gallon of milk away from your body, carrying the trash out, or just bending over, and this man plays DT in the NFL with a back that would get most of us out of mowing the lawn.

You're reading too much into it.

They didn't have Morris or Smith at this time last year. Niang was essentially the LT. They will sign a vet like Smith again, and they will probably draft another as early as round 1.

FloridaMan88 03-28-2024 08:51 AM

The Chiefs should be getting that salary cap relief with the Sneed trade transaction becoming official any time now... that should spur some additional signings.

That would be surprising to me if you're not paying Sneed even for 1 yr on the tag. I know there was something said about Howard being willing to play for less but I would be surprised if he was cheap enough the team would be interested...
