I'd love to know the story of how Lucas got Alec Guiness to sign on. What convinced him? You know he must have thought this thing was gonna flop and was pretty cheesball at the time.

Yeah, they're on the Special Edition DVD's.

My favorite had to be Terri Nunn.

:D

And finally, you weren't even alive when Star Wars was released. You have no idea what made that movie so successful.

You're just talking out of your ass, as usual.

Lucas himself said that he cast unknowns for the specific reason I mentioned earlier.

And it's in virtually every "making of" book about Star Wars.

You're wrong.

Alec read the script and actually liked it. He understood what Lucas was trying to get at.

William Katt rockin the 70's "white fro". ROFL

You know Dane rocked one.

He was fairly stagnant. He hadn't found in a great roles in years and needed money.

Without the role of Obi Wan, he'd have been remembered for a film he did in 1957.

That's a long time for an actor in 1976.

That's revisionist history, something in which George Lucas is a master.

Please explain to me how Kurt Russell and Cindy Williams were "unknowns".

:shake:

It could well be. Maybe George Lucas is just lying.

But he claims he settled on who he did because they were relative unknowns and wouldn't be distracting.

He initially wanted James Caan for Han Solo.

Yeah, he was an unknown.

:D

Lucas also wanted Pacino, Burt Reynolds (who MGM wanted for Rocky), Jodie Foster (who Carrie mentioned in the Special Edition DVD), etc and so on.

It's a lie.

Did he get the part? No.

A relative unknown did.

Again, these are Lucas' own admissions. He picked unknowns for the roles for a specific reason.

Now **** off. You're being a dick for no reason other than you're mad about being wrong about something. Again.

No, he "settled" on them because all of the bigger names turned him down.

The script, by all accounts, was unreadable. Plus, no one believed in it.

You're talking out your ass again.

Leigh Brackett had nothing to do with Star Wars.

Empire, sure. Star Wars, no.

Just admit I know a lot more about you on this subject, and move on.

I'll go with this. I'll bet a lot of more respected actors at the time read the script and started to ROFL.
