They have already promised to do that. They have announced multiple times that they aren't taking a QB #1. We just refuse to accept it.

Trading for Alex Smith doesn't translate to the Chiefs not drafting Geno. Telling the world there isn't any QB worth drafting anywhere in the first round does. Alex Smith coming here just sucks on it's own two feet, as he is a bad QB who will game manage us to mediocrity.

If they were getting inquiries from several other teams they might have just started telling them 'no, i think we have a deal done already'

Might not of been leaked by the 49ers, it could be one of the teams that they told 'no' to.

or this come be just a smoke screen by the 49ers to try and spur some offers.
