Hell, I like the way AR's look with just collapsible stocks, carry handles, plain etc. I actually probably like them more than the AR's with tac rails and what not.

If you were in my shoes would you go any of those routes? The carry handle is an absolute must as is a sling mount and collapsible stock. Would it be best to get an A2 upper and a scope to the handle? Would that make it easier for coyote hunting/keep my wife satisfied with the handle. Can both of those be zeroed in? Or each time I take off the scope I'd have to residue it and residue the iron target.

I would definitely go with the removable carry handle, but again, I just don't see the point in having one. Why is she so insistent on that?

Since I've never had the carry handle, I really don't know difficult it is to mount stuff to it. I do know that if you ever want to go the red dot/magnifier route, it will be a problem. And I agree you'll want the collapsible stock - I can't imagine why anybody would want one of the solid ones.

As for the "don't plan on doing any major upgrades" part, well, good luck with that. :D That's half the fun of getting one, and if you upgrade a piece here and there, you won't go broke doing it.

He'll understand when he has his own.

She wants the carry handle because that's how she trains in the army. I can't decide between which one I want. I've been debating all week.

Dunit35 09-17-2011 05:14 PM

I should be okay as long as I get a removable one. I'm just worried I'd have to zero each one in every time I want to use one or the other. That would be stupid.

Is it that she trains or trained on one in the Army? My nephew is active duty and he said M4's with tactical rails was all his unit uses for an AR. It has worked out well for me though because I have a Aimpoint CompM2 red dot from his second tour and a ACOG from his third tour now in my possession.

she said they still use M16's in her unit. I'd rather have no carry handle but she requires it. She wants one just as much as I do but I'll play with it the most. I should just talk her into getting her own.

Interesting to know that. I was under the impression that M4's, by now would have replaced the M16 for use by military. Heck they are even looking at replacing the M4's already.

Maybe her unit uses M16's for training only. It'd be pointless to train with them if they are using M4's in the field.

Yeah, that's the third swing'n dick to get killed this summer around here, by a grizzly. In this case, some out of state dipshit, thought he was shooting a "black bear" wrong!

http://blogs.ocweekly.com/navelgazin...Fudd_small.jpg

Dipshit shoots grizzly, grizzly runs off ALL PISSED OFF!
http://www.pollsb.com/photos/o/37721-elmer_fudd.jpg

Grizzly runs into dudes buddy and opens up a can of whoop ass on him, until dude is taking dirt nap.

Reminds me of a print I own by Bev Doolittle called "Doubled Back."

(Sorry but, LMAO dumb ****) Dude one has to shoot black/ooops grizzly bear, numerous times to kill it,

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_UaPuUGKak8...%2520growl.jpg

but to late for his buddy.

Serious the guy died because he buddy was a dumb ass and shot and pissed off the bear? Normally I'm not a big fan of the gov stepping in but that is a serious case of negligence on the part of the dumb **** that wounded the animal. Hunter's ethos, make sure both your SKILL and your weapon is capable of taking down your prey. It's a bitch to both the hunter and the animal to only wound any animal. Shoot to kill for your sake and it's.

On a side note, maybe they gov will be more friendly to allowing the use of grenade launchers or RPGs as bear defense? That would likely be a one shot kill!

Yeah, I'm sure the guy was surprised when he shot it and it ran off, rather than hitting the dirt. A grizzly is much harder to put down, because of their size.

Finally got an AR. DPMS oracle A3 upper. He threw in the removable carry handle, fixed front sight and a Ncstar red dot scope. It came out to $750 with tax. I can't wait to shoot this bitch.

He sold me two magpul mags for $22 and 200 rnds of PMC ammo for $63. Here is my concern with that. After reading the manual it says all foreign and reloaded ammo voids the warranty. This ammo is made in Korea. Should I email the guy and ask? I don't want to be "that" guy.

First question....short of a case blowing up in the chamber and embedding itself in the gun how would they know anything about who made the ammo? Secondly even in that case you probably have bigger problems than a warranty.

If you've got a quality manufacturer then I probably wouldn't worry one bit. DPMS upper should be fine, I assume the lower is DPMS? If so then I wouldn't really stress about it. Shoot it and have fun.

Just FYI.....

PMC Bronze is the only ammo I shoot out of my competition Colt AR-15 that I dont load my self.
Its great plinking ammo. Never jams, never short strokes in my Colt.
Now WOLF. I wont run that underpowered crap threw my MINI14. & it wont cycle my AR. Wolf powder is like cut Cocaine, it has graphite mixed with the powder to slow down the burn rate. Nasty dirty stuff that Wolf is
