I have noticed that some of you guys have built your own AR. Where do you purchase parts, and if you would be so kind it would be great if you listed what brands to purchase, prices, etc.

I would enjoy building one with hand picked parts, and if it comes out cheaper that would be the icing on the cake.

With what you'd spend just for a few key components, you'd probably be better off going the route I did - buy cheap and modify over time.

I certainly don't have the knowledge or tools to assemble one completely from a box of parts, but I've damn sure altered the crap of a base model. I started with a well-regarded DPMS Panther Oracle (that you can pick up from Bud's for about $600) less than a year ago. Since then, I've added/replaced over $1,000 worth of new components. Most of them I've added myself, and all but one correctly. It's been a great learning experience, and doing it over time makes the expense of it manageable. Some of the stuff I added early on ended up being rather useless, but that's part of the learning experience. It's been a great deal of fun, which is pretty much over at this point because there really isn't much left to do to it that I haven't already done.

Hell yeah. Killed my 1st prairie dog today. Scoped marlin 22 mag. The scope was balls from 100 yards plus but I got him from 50 out.
