It comes down to my wife. She really wants to go, but is naive as **** to the dangers this world harbors. I've worked hard to keep it that way, and I'm going to continue doing so. I appreciate the well thought out post here, because I was thinking it, but not saying it out loud.

She knows how to keep herself safe. She knows some bad shit happens in the world. I just don't want to go into great detail of it with her is all.

Exactly. She gets lured off the safe zone in any way when I'm not around and POOF. Who knows? I'll pass. An amazing opportunity if I was single, but if it's meant to be, I'll get offered something in St Thomas or somewhere genuinely amazing.
