Penalty for taunting should be that unnecessary roughness penalties will not be called during the scoring team's next possession.

Taunting is normally something that takes place between plays.
What about: if a player in possession of the ball taunts, he is assumed to be giving himself up, play over, ball placed at that spot. |

The players will take care of the taunter. They never forget getting their noses rubbed in it and they will get even when the opportunity arises. Showboaters always pay for their actions in the end, problem solved.

I like it. Idiots must be stopped. Now take away the celebration dances too. Tell Nicole on NFL AM that her dancing segment is shit.

Ridiculous. Goodell has become worse than Stern with all these new subjective game-influencing rules he's pushing. If this gets implemented, I can already see one of the crotchety old refs handing the Patsies or Donks a crucial win by deciding that a funny look from an opposing player is "taunting."

I think he should get a bonus for taunting. It makes the game more interesting.

I hear they're also looking into blowing the whole damn thing up and starting over as an all female league.

What most seem to be missing here is a taunted player seeking retribution. You're risking more injuries.

Wait... Ban injuries and then we can keep the taunting!! |
If taunting is defined as something directed at a specific player, I would be in favor of nullifying touchdowns if the taunting occurred in the field of play before crossing the goal line.
Players that taunt other players rely on the fact that the taunted player's retaliation is limited by the possibility of getting penalized or getting kicked out of the game. It is a chickensh*t move to disrespect a man in public when the taunting player knows that there is some extraordinary penalty facing the man that justifiably teaches a lesson by beating the guy up. What Golden Tate did was cowardly. Unless you allow players to retaliate with violence when taunted, taunting aimed at a specific player while the clock is still running and the ball is live should be penalized from the spot of the foul. I don't think high-stepping or altering your running style on a pick 6 on a certain td is taunting as long as you are not pointing the ball, or waving, at the other team's player, but fans, players and referees can tell when a player is directly taunting another player to the point of provocation. |

Unless you wise up, you deserve a fart in your general direction or the loss of your man card, if you have not forfeited that already. |
