Is there a good website to map the event locations? I can't believe this games doesn't have an in-game map.

Also, do farming routes like this still work?

Those do but thats an ideal situation which only happens once in a while.

The app on the phone looks like the below pic and has a mini map. While it doesn't show you exactly where the event is as long as you're in the area the screen will go dark and there will be a prompt with a marker showing you where to go to start or join in the event.

I prefer the phone app to the web version as it has alarms that go off when an event is coming up which gives you enough time to get to the location. On a good run you can hit 2-3 back to back before a 15-20 minute break in between to run some patrol missions. With the way that guns and armor have been coming out in patches and releases: I'd level your vanguard rep to 3 before switching to one of the smaller factions or limited time event factions for rep.

There is a rare drop. It is a beginner weapon. You get it from the blade of crota. The easiest way to find it is to go to the fist of crota mission on earth. DO it on 28 with a black wax idol turned on. Run past the very beginning, run down the tunnel and that is where the blade is. Kill him, if you don't get it, go to orbit, try again. Now, a white weapon. Nothing special. Wrong. This one can be upgraded to an exotic. It has the word Husk in it. You can get experience for it by killing hive.

what is the name of that app? the one I found doesn't look like that.

I've read that the black wax idol isn't necessary. Haven't tried it, so can't confirm.

"Events for Destiny" by Ruben Frosali. I've had it through two patches and he updates it relatively quickly. I have it on iPhone and unsure of it translates to droid.

Yup

The collective mind at reddit has decided that you can get it at any level at any Blade of Crota encounter. The odds of it dropping at any particular encounter are low though, so replaying the Fist of Crota mission will probably get it done the quickest. You can do it at lvl. 24 though.

I must've done it 20 times at 28 last night. Nada.

Then I realized why am I wasting time on this, it requires doing the new raid on hard mode to get the exotic. I'll never do that. And it's an assault rifle.

I'm sure it'll drop for me eventually, but I'm not going out of my way for it.

Well, it didn't have to go exotic. I plan on stopping it at legendary.
