By offering Hoch a contract, he can refuse and take us to arbitration, In arbitration he'll probably get over $4 million.

We aren't necessarily pissed at having no pitching (though we ought to be able to find pitching in a trade), but if you are going to settle for Hoch, you could get a pitcher as crappy as him for the F'ing major league minimum. And for that money we'd save, maybe we could have paid someone else who was better. But no, we're dumb because Hoch has good stuff and gee wiz gollee gosh, he's always unlucky, but next year is the year, promise! No it, ****ing isn't. Hoch is garbage.

Or if you can't find a SP for the difference, maybe you can upgrade at second base. The bottom line is, for a team with limited funds, we sure spend money in incredibly dumb ways.

This is out of character for me, but I'll offer up the "DM isn't dumb as ****" excuse:

Payroll really is capped at $70M, and DM floated the number in an attempt to get public pressure to cause Glass to raise the self-imposed cap. No deal. Thus, we're forced to trade prospects, and everyone is set on trying to pry Myers from our system. DM, wise as he is, won't do this because he realizes that an average Myers instead of a dog shit Frenchy is worth, literally, about 4 additional wins. A very good starter would be worth about the same.

Thus, DM gambles on a shitty pitcher with stuff in the hopes that it will "all come together."

But instead of spending that $4M on Hoch, go grab someone else off the street for $4M who almost certainly would be better.

You're going to have to forget about numbers and logic if we're going to continue to discuss what might motivate DM.

Thats an admirable attempt, but there's no way to get around the fact that we're spending over $4MM for a starting pitcher who was WAY under replacement value in 2012. We probably have a pitcher in Omaha who could do better for a lot less.

This was an inexplicable dumb move. Even if you think we'll sign or trade for someone else later and cut Hoch, we still threw away a lot of good money tonight.

Ladies and Gentlemen: the Kansas City Royals.

The very LAST team who will EVER embrace Sabermetrics. We're living in the stone age, wasting our blessed spot in the easiest-to-win division in MLB.

DM literally told us in the summer of '09 that he didn't understand or believe defensive metrics, so there's just no way we should be caught off guard here. He truly is that dumb; he's always been this bad.

See!!!! Look at that! Anyone in the F'ing local Kansas City media paying attention!?!?!?

We're not a bunch of moron fans. This was such a mind-boggling move that widely respected baseball experts are taking a moment to go "Hoch wasn't cut?...... Wow."

HAI GUYZ

To hell with this move/non-move I'm already over it. The Royals will be what they will be.

Aside from that I've always thought you have the second greatest username on the board even though I have no clue what it means.

It was supposed to be siberian hat but he has really fat fingers.

DeezNutz 12-01-2012 12:16 AM

Now we need Myers to be traded for Shields, straight up, and Rany will quit the Royals before the start of the season.

I cant wait for Hoch to throw a damned 4.85 ERA, 0-win, 3-loss April and for DM to be interviewed about keeping him.
