Hell of a good episode tonight. The TAHITI reveal was pretty unexpected.

Turning out to be a pretty awesome series. Hopefully they end it well.

keg in kc 04-30-2014 01:34 AM

That was good. Although the fx with lola falling from the plane were hilariously bad.

They've really turned the corner I think.

Aries Walker 04-30-2014 04:52 AM

The fact that they shelled out for FX like that in a TV show at all is pretty impressive.

I laughed about it. But even thought it is Disney, they're still not dealing with Game of Thrones dollars.

Not worried about it. It didn't detract from the story much. Additionally, it allowed that hilarious moment where they both look frazzled and the parking attendant says it will be $20. ROFL

I can't believe how good this show has become the second half of the season, after I gave up on it near the end of the first half. I checked back in just in time a couple of months ago, and it's done a near-180.

It's still not GREAT, but it's good.

Good ep. They're really on a roll now. Can't wait for the finale.

And can they seriously being going the Inhumans route with Skye (and Reina)? It sure looks more and more like it with every reveal.

I love that they didn't spoil anything with FitzSimmons in the promo for next week. I mean, I assume they're going to live through it, but at least they didn't show them...

Spoiler-free review of the finale: http://www.forbes.com/sites/merrillb...-small-screen/

Some of the highlights:
Quote:

From the first scene, “Beginning of the End” (which has now been confirmed to not be the series finale) hits the ground running, and all the built-up tension of the last 22 episodes is released into 60 minutes of pure pay off. The best part, however? Within all that making good, the series finally stands its ground and stakes its claim as a member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. How does one do that? By establishing world changing consequences that don’t just affect one MCU franchise, but all of them.
Quote:

The biggest promise made by the end of “Beginning of the End” is Marvel’s live-action world can now be shaped by anything, no matter how small… which, as it so happens, is also the main message of the episode itself. The littlest of things can change everything.
Quote:

this is, by far, the most well put together episode of the series to date. There’s no denying a lot of that has to do with the previously mentioned build-up, but that’s okay because it’s just nice to know the series didn’t crumble under the weight of its own scale. Every story arc is given its due (even the ones audiences may have forgotten about from the beginning of the season), and every character is given a chance to shine in their own right, all well setting up more arcs for season two.
Quote:

It’s been a long journey, and there’s no question many viewers’ patience wore thin toward the end, but that never stopped Marvel from pushing forward to one of the most entertaining hours of television this season and finally cementing a deserved place on the small screen.

keg in kc 05-13-2014 08:05 PM

Okay, that was pretty much constant awesome from the second Sam Jackson showed up. I didn't expect him to be that involved. Like a coda for both Avengers and CA2.

Valiant 05-14-2014 02:38 AM

Yeah, fans of the movies almost have to be required to watch. Get insight for the movies. Hell, imagine them having to do something with each up coming marvel produced movie. The cameos and tie ins would give great stories. Then their own arcs.

Deberg_1990 05-14-2014 01:41 PM

That was a badass episode. Great to see Samuel L cameo. Awesome the way he was used.

What's funny is, the violence was more graphic than the movies. Specifically when he pulled the generals bones out.

1. Who was the guy at the end looking at Sky's picture?
2. What was Coulsons carving on the wall?

Aries Walker 05-14-2014 01:45 PM

I really liked the May vs. Ward throwdown. That was some brutal close-quarters, grab-what-you-can fight choreography. It reminded my of Bond and Grant in the train car in From Russia with Love.

1. Her father.

2. We don't know. Same thing Garrett was carving. Probably something that ties in to Guardians of the Galaxy or Avengers 2. I thought it might have something to do with Ultron, since it looked like circuitry or whatnot, but I've seen other speculation that it's Kree.

I like that Ward didn't turn good again even though they started hinting that way. They didn't kill him either, so of course they can always bring him back.

Yes. There might be redemption for him next season -- perhaps involving Skye, when her inner "monster" is unleashed -- but it would have been too easy to have him turn on Garrett and kill him and then everything be OK to end this season. Glad they're holding back on that.

I assume the show will be back after Guardians of the Galaxy. If they are going the Kree route, that would time up well, as the villain in Guardians is a bad-ass Kree.

In leading up to Avengers 2, it will be interesting how they fill in the backstory for Ultron, given AntMan (his creator in the comics) will not be introduced into the MCU yet. I assume they will tie it in with Stark somehow but they could also go the alien route, and since the Kree are super-advanced, they could be tied in.

I was expecting (hoping) GotG to be completely away from Earth. I'm guessing there won't be much of a tie in to SHIELD, other than the "official" introduction of the Kree.

unlurking 05-15-2014 05:08 PM

Yeah, watching Garrett climb onto the chair and then stand up like Robocop had thinking WTF, why? Then Coulson takes care of him like he's wiping a smudge on the window and goes back to his day like nothing ever happened. Totally got me and had me rolling afterwards.

I think the amount of characters and races already being introduced in GotG are more than enough without trying to tie in SWORD, although I'm guessing they'll have to somewhere. The movie looks awesome, but there's going to be a lot of back story for me to read up on in the coming months.

They should do SWORD as a separate TV show, like SHIELD. Maybe on Syfy? Could always use more space based scifi shows, of which we don't have any right now.

duncan_idaho 09-24-2014 08:57 AM

Pretty excited after last night.

BTW, Hayley is on set for CARTER today for the first time. One interesting thing about the show: It looks like it's set up for her to be the serious actor/lead, while her male co-star (Chad Michael Murray) is the eye candy. Atypical Hollywood, typical Hayley.

If you love SHIELD and the Marvel universe in general, and IF you want to ever see a Carol Danvers vehicle, make sure you watch Agent Carter when it debuts.

I think CARTER is going to be a huge success, but I might be a little biased on that one.

Aries Walker 09-24-2014 11:47 AM

I was really, really hoping they wouldn't make Crusher Creel into a one-and-done blip-on-the-radar dead-man-walking thug, like they did with Blackout last season and, to a lesser extent, Batroc in Winter Soldier. I'm happy to say I was pleasantly surprised. They even gave him his ball and chain for a minute there.

Valiant 10-01-2014 09:50 AM

I really thought they would bring xena back as a mutant. Weird having her in the photo shots on cast for just one episode. She must being needing money.

Aries Walker 10-01-2014 09:52 AM

They might bring her back as a cyborg, because the writers made such a point to have her arm cut off first. The Army took possession of the wreck; it's not beyond this show to have Talbot replace the body and mechanize her.

Pitt Gorilla 10-27-2014 09:32 AM

Whole season's been awesome so far.

keg in kc 10-29-2014 03:59 AM

Another good one. They've done a tremendous job this season, especially like how there's been no redemption arc for Ward.

Aries Walker 10-29-2014 09:07 AM

Minor quibble: I wish they had made Scarlotti a little more effective. He's Blacklash in the comics and known for his whip, so I was glad to see the whip-chain come out, but it ended up relatively short, and he got rather predictably beat up by the show's I-always-win character.

Otherwise, it was a really good episode. They're building towards the end of the season really well.

Jamie 11-11-2014 10:24 PM

Another good one. They've done a tremendous job this season, especially like how there's been no redemption arc for Ward.

You might have spoken too soon on that...

Though I think they'll continue to play Ward as a total wild card with his own agenda (and still a total sociopath, of course).

Yeah, that's evil ward dropping off "presents". That's not ward working his way back onto the team. Hell, he's about to kidnap his brother.

I wouldn't be against a redemption arc of some kind over the long term, I just didn't want to see one at the beginning of this season. So it's all good for me.

It's a pretty neat and unique circumstance in any case.

My first thought was the Kree capital on Halla, but Attilan also popped up, given it's a helluva lot closer than Halla. Also, the Inhumans were created by the Kree so that would be a tie-in to the host on Tahiti.

So skyy's mom was killed by hydra? And skyy taken by shield?

And Skyy's mom had the fountain of youth within her.

I like Ward as a bad guy. And I like Skyy's father as an anti-hero.

Been a great season so far.

Also, are they setting us up for another infinity gem with whatever us inside the obelisk?

EDIT:
Apparently the Time Gem was at one time protected by Captain America (Agent Carter connection?) before vanishing and has the power to control aging. Maybe that ability was imparted to Skyy's mom and somehow Whitehall got it?

Yeah, I'm not sure how after that last episode there's any possibility of redemption with Ward. Unless it's some deep cover bullshit (emphasis on bullshit) that Coulson somehow set in motion.

Very interesting dynamic to have such a hardcore bad guy as part of the main cast, not really working with them, not really working against them. I like it.

Sky's father is definitely out to murderate Whitehall as viciously as he can for what happened to his wife. That could get interesting.

They definitely threw a lot of hints down of a possible Inhuman connection with Sky. Whitehall (or Rheinhart) talked about blue men coming to earth to destroy it and that very well could have been the Kree that came to create the Inhumans. So far, Sky has not reacted to the Kree blood like Coulson did, which means she may have had it all along.
