Or Michael Myers vs Pumpkinhead or something.

Simply Red 03-05-2018 02:30 PM

I watched Amusement last night - it was pretty good in a Joy Ride type of way. Give me a good haunted type to watch tonight.

Still haven’t seen ‘Get Out’. It won some Oscars last night.

What’s CP say about it?

Its strength is in its recontextualization of the genre.

It's a pretty straightforward genre film, so if you know the 'twist' or anticipate it, it's a little 'well, duh.'

But it's well shot and efficient in its narrative.

Kind of like when you enjoy 'Speed,' then you realize it's 'Die Hard, . . . on a Bus.' You can appreciate the craft of adapting the narrative to another setting and how it creates new drama, even while you recognize that it's formulaic at its base.

Ti West is an overlooked horror director, IMO.

Totally disagree. I thought it was well done. Then again, when i saw i had never heard of it. So for me, it had little to no hype, therefore no expectations.

I can name 3-4 episodes of Black Mirror that were overall better.

yes - I knew there was a reason I knew of it and never saw it. More of a thriller but since you have MP or NF - try out The Game w/ J. Bateman.

I have not, but it looks pretty interesting from what little that gives one to go on... looks like it might involve some kind of black magic cult, I do like those kinda flicks

High Tension

7.5 / 10

High Tension (IMDB LINK)

7.5/10

I'll just quote IMDB for simplicity:

Quote:

Best friends Marie and Alexia decide to spend a quiet weekend at Alexia's parents' secluded farmhouse. But on the night of their arrival, the girls' idyllic getaway turns into an endless night of horror.
Certainly nothing revolutionary as far as the horror genre goes but a great popcorn flick when your in the mood for a good slasher that kind of went under the radar.

I will have to check it out - I ended up watching The Barn last night - it was a good Halloween movie that attempted to take place in 1980 - via 2006 - I've certainly seen better attempts at retro'ing a film out. But the content wasn't bad.

I was unable to find "There's Something in the Woods" - only found "Something in the Woods" which is entirely different and much worse.

Why Not? 03-11-2018 01:02 AM

Very underrated flick

beach tribe 03-13-2018 05:02 PM

I watch horror probably 90% of my TV time.

Good ones are not easy to find.

"Nocturne" did pretty good for essentially no budget.

Some years back I watched that movie by the guy who did Melancholia, called "Antichrist" and that shit was so Twisted that I deleted it off my hard drive when I was done.

I don't know if it counts as horror that movie convergence is badass.
Wait I don't know if that's the name of it and I just tried to Google it and I couldn't find the movie I'm talking about.
That's the one with the chick with the blonde hair and a comet goes over the Earth or house and they keep jumping realities they have the little glow lights and when they leave the house that they have blue and then they come back and a couple of them have the wrong color.. the chick can't find a way back so she tries to insert herself into a different reality.

Also I'm buzzing pretty good. Might sound like jibberish

I like scotch

beach tribe 03-13-2018 05:17 PM

Lars van Trier is who made that Antichrist movie.

It was a beautiful movie, but that shit left a mark when I watched it. The last act is as menacing as any movie I've ever seen.

I thought I had seen it all.....nope

sully1983 03-13-2018 06:21 PM

Yeah, I watched both fairly recently. They're worth a watch but I wasn't huge fan. The movies are more weird than scary.

I'm also not generally freaked out by "real-life" killers so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Also we’ve been watching the Netflix series Dark. It’s pretty good, not really horror but a slow burn mystery/thriller! It’s only one season so far.

Have you watched this yet?

Antichrist by Lars Van Trier.

If you guys are looking for horror this shit is breath taking.
There's a reason you don't see this on Netflix and such.
It's too intense for the masses. Not just a gore out it. It is hand wringing stuff.

Yeah - It had a lot of potential - but I don't really care to see William Defoe's stunt double's cock.

As a horror film it carried out a mood I normally enjoy. But things moved a tad slow. I'd say it's about a 6/10 for me.

Just got back from 'A Quiet Place', and yeah it lived up to the hype... Krasinski has really parlayed his time in The Office into something much bigger and better

I only have two real complaints...

Spoiler!

And

Spoiler!

Other than that, it was a very well done film that really tried to create and flesh out its characters in a way that the audience can relate to... and the monsters were some bad mamma jammas

I'm giving it 4 of 5 stars, it was well worth the price of admission

SAGA45 04-21-2018 11:14 PM

The Terrifier

Holy sh*t this is nuts and awesome!! It's a throwback horror flick...pays excellent homage to those 70's/80's horror flicks gems you'd unearth at the now extinct mom & pop video store on vhs. Watching it on Kodi right now and it kicks ass!

Its not for everyone but for us horror buffs in our late 30's and up, I highly reccomend it!

Hopefully you watched it because of my recommendation :)

Watching Shand's River now -

Acting isn't the best - but it's got a 'real feeling' about it. Synopsis below.

Independent Italian horror Movie. Inspired by the classic Italian horror movies of the 70s and 80s. A professor, Emma goes to Voghera, a small town in Northern Italy. To study the story of the witch Shanda killed in the early 1800's, on the river bank from which it is named. The professor will be enslaved to a magic spell and will be forced to repeat the same day over and over. Every time she will be killed and every time she will start the day again.
