LMAO I hear ya. Though that would be a sweet ending. Who's idea was it to form the JL anyway and at what point was the proposition made? Was it made after more heroes and heroines emerged? Or was it made early and just expanded once more heroes and heroines emerged and then became the powerhouse it is?

Saw the trailer again before Trek into Darkness. Has to be the 7th or 8th time I've seen it (it was also before IM3), but it was the first time in 3D and holy crap did it look amazing.

Yeah I'm at the point where I was with TDKR. Which is no more watching trailers, especially this close to the first showing.

Yeah, me, too. I've told all my friends not to say a single word about the movie because I don't want to be spoiled.

This will likely be my first midnight viewing in a decade, so I'm stoked.

It's pretty much the only way I'll be able to see a film in the theaters these days. I wanted to see TDK in theaters but my first was just born and it was too crazy. My second is almost 10 months, so I should be able to sneak out that night...

That is the one thing blatantly missing from all these trailers and teasers. What is Clark's career path and "mask".

No idea about thw comics but in the 70s movies Zod hated Sups daddy Jor L because he locked him up in the neutral zone. So when he escaped, he naturally went after Jor Ls son once he found out about him.

I thought I heard that Superman, in this movie, is different than most Kryptonians. Maybe he's hunting him because he's not like the rest... and he hates Russell Crowe.

General Zod started a revolution on Krypton. Jar-El had the final vote on their eternal imprisonment and Zod vowed to make Jar and his heirs pay for it.
Zod and his two accomplices were imprisoned in some kind of prism that got destroyed by the destruction of Krypton.
Kal is the only one left to seek revenge upon.

They have all of their powers on Earth because Krypton had a red sun and the pure density of their atmosphere makes them invulnerable and gives them powers in ours.

The trailers for this have been incredible but lets not forget who's directing this. Snyder who is VERY hit or miss. Sucker Punch was one of the worst movies in the last 5 years.
Lets hope Nolan's influence changed Snyder into a good/decent filmmaker. I have my doubts but we shall see.

That being said, I can't wait for this cause the summer has pretty much sucked so far(Iron Man 3 was crap and Star Trek 2 was just so so and I just cant get into the Fast & Furious movies or the Hangover movies so I'll be skipping both of those). There is still hope though. We have Man of Steel, Only God Forgives, Elysium, Pacific Rim and some others that I can't think of right now.

I wasn't a big fan of Snyder directing, but early word (from long-running rumors from inside the studio and from some recent international screenings) is that Man of Steel is very, very good.

Yea, I'm not the biggest Snyder fan, but he's an interesting visual stylist.

I liked his Living dead remake, 300 and parts of Watchmen. I thought his owl movie and Sucker Punch were horrible.

Who know...maybe working with Nolan was the right recipe?

keg in kc 05-28-2013 08:15 PM

The one thing the 8000 trailers reveal is that they really look to have gotten Superman right onscreen. The way he flies, the way he fights. That's something I don't think any of the previous movies ever did.

And I guess having so many trailers, and all of them being good so far, shows that there's a lot of good material to choose from. We've seen a lot more than 2.5 minutes of cool stuff, so I'm not too worried at this point about walking out of the theater thinking "well shit, all the good stuff was in the trailers".

And as much as they've given away, I get the sense that they really haven't given much away. At least nothing that wasn't already long-established Superman canon.

Gravedigger 05-28-2013 08:22 PM

Well limited by technology in the 80's and early 90's you couldn't really get Superman right. Superman Returns had the chance but didn't really get much right outside of Routh looked like Reeves did which was nice. I agree that this is using the full use of special effects to create as realistic a Superman that you can. I, for one, made this movie the ONE movie I wanted to see this holiday season, and I can't wait.

Sure-Oz 05-28-2013 09:18 PM

I can't wait to see this...hoping for a fresh rating from RT in the 80+ percentile range

My wife thinks any superman movie that doesn't have Christopher Reeve sucks.

I proceeded to ask her about III and IV. She said "well, minus those two of course." LMAO

Of course, that wasn't Reeve's fault. heh

The only Reeve movie I could stomach was the original and even then, it's hard to watch. Ned Beatty and Gene Hackman were too "campy" and comedic.

I'm sorry but Margot Kidder was just downright ugly. There was nothing attractive about that woman. Not her body, face, voice, hair - nothing.

For me, Superman II through IV are completely unwatchable. And Superman Returns is just as bad (albeit for different reasons).

Hopefully, Man of Steel finally gets it right.

keg in kc 05-29-2013 11:19 AM

I'll agree to disagree. They were more than 30 years ago. I don't watch movies from that era expecting what I see today. I watch them on their own merit, and while campy, the soundtracks are amazing and the stories and performances are solid.

As you mention, it was a different era, and that's OK. I still enjoy Forbidden Planet and The Day the Earth Stood Still, even though science fiction has probably changed more than any other genre since then.

keg in kc 05-29-2013 01:27 PM

I love the soundtracks. I just can't watch the movies without groaning. It's like trying to watch 60's era batman episodes after watching TDK. Albeit not quite that bad. And as I said, I do acknowledge that they were from a different time, but doesn't make them any more watchable. For me.

As far as science fiction goes, other movies from that era have held up much better. Star Wars and Alien bookend it (one from '77, the other '79). Close Encounters was also '77. All highly watchable, even today. As far as the others you mention, both were 20-30 years older than Superman. And both are classics that I'll watch whenever they're on. Certain movies transcend era. I don't think Superman is one of them.

DaneMcCloud 05-29-2013 01:33 PM

Don't forget Blade Runner...

DaneMcCloud 05-29-2013 01:40 PM

Also, "Soundtrack" refers to songs that have licensed and appear throughout the film.

Sometimes, the released soundtracks include music that wasn't even heard in the movie but are in the "spirit" of the film (In other words, an easy way to promote and expose "baby bands" that are "forced" upon the film makers by the studio in order to earn more money for their music division).

"Score" is the accurate term to describe the music composed specifically for the film. On this case, John Williams composed the score for Superman.

Yeah Shannon is the man and one of the best actors working today. Have you seen Take Shelter or Bug? Both great performances

Also he was well deserving of an Oscar nom for his role in Revolutionary Road.

Pepe Silvia 05-30-2013 01:40 PM

I hope its better than Superman Returns, that was terribly cast. Brandon Routh had the look of Superman but is a terrible actor and couldn't pull it off. this one at least looks better with Michael Shannon in it.
