Werdum got popped by the USADA. :(

2 year suspension as of now.

alnorth 09-11-2018 08:32 PM

I really don't understand why these guys think they can get away with this anymore. Yeah, I know that cage fighters aren't exactly rocket scientists, but man, it is just not worth it.

Well.... boxing had a bad weekend.

alnorth 09-17-2018 03:07 PM

We're going to Brazil this weekend for a card thats better than most Brazil cards (which are usually garbage)

Wednesday

11pm - (Fightpass) - AFL 141

Those wacky Alaskans are at it again with a Wednesday card. The card itself is terrible, like a lot worse than Pancrase levels of bad, but its on a Wednesday night, so thats the only thing on.

Friday

5pm - (Fightpass) - TKO 44

Based on tapology rankings, its not bad at all for a local promotion. Its one of the better promotions in Canada.

8pm - (Paramount) - Bellator 205, McKee vs Macapa

This is slightly below average for Bellator but they have done a lot worse than this before.

Saturday

7:30pm - (5:30pm Fightpass/7:30pm FS2/9:30pm FS1) - UFC Fight Night, Santos vs Anders

The UFC web site as of Monday afternoon still lists this as Manuwa vs Santos, but Manuwa is out, and Eryk Anders is replacing him on 6 days notice. That would be a tremendous win for him if he can pull it off, but 6 days in Brazil? That'll be tough, but I gotta see that fight.

The rest of the main card is..... eh. But for a Brazil card its pretty good because Brazil cards have usually been trash. The prelims are OK.

USADA has announced that Jon Jones is suspended for 15 months, and will be eligible to fight in November. USADA did not decide the punishment, they presumably wanted something longer and they want to arbitration.

The arbitrator ruled that Jones did not knowingly cheat. The arbitrator then took the 48 month punishment recommended by the guidelines, reduced it by 30 months because Jones turned in 1 or more fighters, coaches, and/or suppliers to USADA, and got another 3 month reduction for.... something thats unclear.

So, snitches get riches.

What a ****ing waste of talent.

I guess I'm interested in hearing about who Jon Jones rolled on. If we get some crazy news about tons of fighters and/or coaches suspended by USADA because of Jones, then the 30 month reduction might make more sense.

The extra 3 months to me just literally reads as "it would be more convenient to let him fight in MSG than in February"

Anything good this weekend? I kinda of quit following during football season.

LMAO The UFC and USADA both killed pretty much all credibility they had left with how they handled McGregor and Jones respectively. You've effectively set the precedent that no matter how much of a headcase or habitual **** up you are, we'll bend over backwards for you as long as you can make us tons of money.

You gotta grade it on a curve.

Lets get real, everyone in the NFL is on steroids. All of them, if they aren't, then they are stupid. Everyone in boxing is juicing, and smart enough to avoid the windows when they know they'll be tested. I'll give some credit to MLB, they seem to be at least somewhat serious, some big important players have been busted and suspended.

OK, now look at the UFC. A shitton of fighters have been popped and suspended, a lot of fighters who were going to headline main events got yanked because of tests, including fighters who were going to headline gigantic fights that were going to bring in mega-dollars. (UFC 200!!!)

In this case, USADA and/or the arbitrator decided that the guys Jon Jones snitched on, who we do not yet know, was worth a very big reduction in his punishment. Maybe we don't agree, but come on, look at what everyone else in the sports and combat entertainment industry is (not) doing.

alnorth 09-20-2018 08:22 PM

Oh, hell yes.

I don't care what you think about women's MMA, THAT is going to be a very good fight.

Thats the longest deal I ever heard of. 8 fights, and the UFC has to promote Conor's whiskey during his fight cards.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">BREAKING: Conor McGregor signs new eight-fight UFC deal, includes his <a href="https://twitter.com/ProperWhiskey?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@ProperWhiskey</a> in octagon for every fight, does not include boxing rights <a href="https://t.co/HEbSgz03VU">https://t.co/HEbSgz03VU</a></p>&mdash; Darren Rovell (@darrenrovell) <a href="https://twitter.com/darrenrovell/status/1042926778724085764?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">September 21, 2018</a></blockquote>

All of that was before the UFC was sold. They did seem serious about fixing this sport for a while, but Jon Jones being allowed a reduction of 33 months with his track record is a ****ing joke. Just admit you don't give a shit when your biggest stars get popped or assault your other fighters because they're the only ones that bring in big money and move on.

WhiteWhale 09-20-2018 08:41 PM

McGregor is either going insane or he's getting into Tony Montana's supply.
