I was never a Billy Buter fan because he just didn't bring enough tools to the table. However, he is a very likeable guy. If he can somehow revert to his 2012 form, he'll be a productive player for the A's. I'm actually rooting for him to do that, as long as he doesn't ever beat the Royals.

I still think Billy Beane was crazy to give him $30 million, and I (along with everybody else) would be livid if Dayton Moore had done that. However, Billy Beane is no idiot, and maybe he sees something that nobody else does.

I agree.

Beane is no idiot obv. But I'll say that if reports at the time were true - and he really turned down Wil Myers for Bret "Injured every other week" Anderson - that was 10x worse than anything Butler can do to him in this new contract.

Billy. Class act. Great royal. I'll miss him

Same.
Too bad he couldn't build off of his 2012 season.
Frustrating baseball player, hell of a person.

If you want to use 7M as the average and then grade it positive/negative afterwards, that's the same as me saying they're adjusted for payroll as the first order.

I will admit I thought AZ's payroll was low. It's not. League avg was 112 and they were right on the dot. They blew incredible amounts of cash on these turds:

1) Aaron Hill $11m (-0.7 WAR)
2) Miguel Montero $10m (1.2)
3) Cody Ross $9.5m (-1.2)
4) Bronson Arroyo 9.5m (0.5)

Surely whoever that GM is has already been fired, sued for malpractice, imprisoned and set for execution.

They flushed 20 million down the drain for negative WAR, just wow. :shake:
