His isolated power numbers have, save for staying steady from 2010-11, dropped for seven straight years. He's a below replacement level player who gives you about 90% of what a league average hitter would.

Howard is another trade case that, like Matt Kemp, would have to be heavily in favor of the Royals.

That contract is an epic disaster, and Philadelphia would need to eat 80 percent of it for KC to take a stab at giving DH at bats to Ryan Howard.

Like the Kemp deal, the contract is so large and the risk is so high and the current team would have to eat so much of it, it's just highly unlikely.

Now, if Howard were to be WAIVED or CUT by the Phillies, I think the Royals would be one of the teams that is strongly in the running to pick him up as a cheap FA (with Philadelphia still on the hook for the rest of the salary - though I need to research how that works).

His son lives in the KC area, Howard is from Missouri, and they're quite close.

Marlon Byrd has hit 11 home runs at Citizens Bank Ballpark in Philadelphia. 3 of them would not have been home runs had they been hit in Kaufmann Stadium.

Ryan Howard has hit 8 home runs at Citizens Bank. 3 of them would not have been home runs had they been hit in Kaufmann Stadium.

For those wondering, ESPN has a wonderful Home Run Tracker page that allows you to filter by team and then organize by player.

You can pull up a view of each individual home run and then drop a ballpark overlay on it of your choosing.

@Ken_Rosenthal: Sources: #Phillies’ Byrd not option for #Royals. Talks remain stalled with #Mariners; Byrd will waive no-trade only if ’16 option exercised.

Rumors Royals are after Lester

So back to more realistic guys for the Royals. I brought him up before but thought on Josh Willingham?

Willingham is likely cheap and provides an offensive upgrade. He also can kind of play RF (sort of, in that he can stand out there, can catch fly balls, and can throw. He's not exactly rangy).

It's worth exploring quite a bit.

Where are you seeing this? Makes no sense for KC, considering what Boston wants for him.

I think i read something about Lester not signing an extension with whatever team trades for him. Id rather give up the farm for a more controllable player.

He pretty much sabotaged any possible trade.

I can't link that as I have no idea where I read it, so take it FWIW.
