Howard is another trade case that, like Matt Kemp, would have to be heavily in favor of the Royals.
That contract is an epic disaster, and Philadelphia would need to eat 80 percent of it for KC to take a stab at giving DH at bats to Ryan Howard.
Like the Kemp deal, the contract is so large and the risk is so high and the current team would have to eat so much of it, it's just highly unlikely.
Now, if Howard were to be WAIVED or CUT by the Phillies, I think the Royals would be one of the teams that is strongly in the running to pick him up as a cheap FA (with Philadelphia still on the hook for the rest of the salary - though I need to research how that works).
His son lives in the KC area, Howard is from Missouri, and they're quite close. |
