One guy did say the last episode was a crucible, burning away Walt's baggage and leaving us with him as just a creature driven by his pure motivation... so that was good. Otherwise, it's a bunch of "Durrr, I want them to cook some more meth! Can't wait until he goes crazy and kills everybody. Those uppity Gray Matter people are gonna die!"

Twenty five years ago those same people were probably lauding the "Greed is Good" speech (yes, I'm aware of the temporal irony ITT, others); ten years ago they probably loved Fight Club for the fight scenes and Patrick Bateman for the pithy quotes (I know you're in on the joke LACF).

I heard from someone that if you wear an Affliction shirt, and you see another guy wearing the same Affliction shirt you are, you have to kill that guy.

I don't know if this is true, as I don't wear that stuff, but curious if it is.

So, as I'm rewatching this, it occurs to me that Walt letting Jane die was indeed more about saving Jesse than him being an asshole. He was REALLY torn up about it, but let's not forget that Jane is the one that introduced Jesse to heroin and got him hooked on it. So, her dying "saved" Jesse. This was also directly after Walt talked to Jane's father and got the "There's nothing more important than family" line. Walt is looking at Jesse both as a way to save his immediate family and as Jesse becoming Walt's family.

I know this has been hashed out before, but it's something I never really let sink in the first time.

I totally agree, but I doubt Jesse sees it that way.

Of course not. But it's definitely different from how Todd killed Jesse's replacement lover.

So after looking like Walt was going to die as a hermit in the wilderness alone with his money, he pretty much won after all. His family is going to get the 9 million dollars, he saved Jesse, and he killed Jack and all of his goons. And Jesse got to kill Todd.

And the way he did it all was believable. Magnificent ending.

Great catch. Hadn't thought of that.

Perfect ending.

Walt admits to Skyler that it was ego fueled. He gets to say goodbye to his daughter, and see his son one last time. He's still able to secure his family's future through Gretchen and Elliot.

And those goddamned Aryan mother****ers got they caps peeled.

I suppose it's poetic that Walt dies by his own hand, gives Jesse his attempt for vengeance that Jesse, being Jesse, won't take.

I would have shot Jack a few more times to make sure he suffered before killing him, that's my only qualm

Agreed. It got very dusty around here at that time.

And just to be clear: I posted that right after the Jesse making the box scene. That perfectly encapsulated the wasted lives of so many people who go down the wrong path and squander their potential, whether through drugs or other bad choices. Whoever refreshed us on the backstory of the box when the discussion of woodworking in the finale came up did us all a favor in letting us see the true depth of that scene. I'm not sure i would have remembered Jesse's story of making the box for his mom without this forum.

Things I just screamed in the middle of the evening:
