Yeah, Surly only distributes their cans in the greater Twin Cities area. They're very highly regarded in the craft beer world. |

Jacob's Creek Riesling. Not half bad, tart, dry rather than sweet - Australian riesling is never all that sweet. 'Limes + green apples', wish I had stopped and bought some shrimp. These JC wines are on sale at Gomer's in MO and MO Prrrrrrrrrrice Choppah this week for cheap. Pretty tasty for the sale price involved. Their Grenach/Shiraz blend is a nice red wine with burgers or pizza.

I don't have time to read the whole thread. Can someone give me the short version?

Sweet vermouth Aromatic bitters Garnish (cherry or orange twist) Not a bad drink, but I've gone over to Old Fashioneds on the rare occasion when I want something that sweet (around Christmas time). |
Jameson, then New Castles, quick switch to vodka tonics, and finished off with a high life I'm not sure I tasted...AND my typing skills are officially shaky. But I feel like a million bucks. Starting grad school Monday!
Good evening planet. |
A manhattan is a whiskey martini, for all intents. I make my manhattan with Rye whiskey, as they were originally made. Rye is a lot easier to find nowdays, Old Overholt is available almost everywhere - it's cheap and very good. I keep Old Overholt, and Wild Turkey rye 101, there are a a lot more nowdays but those are the two I always keep in stock. Rittenhouse 100 and Russel's Reserve, Baby Sazerac are available here in KC. Old Overholt runs $12 or so, the others run up to the mid $20s.
Pour a jigger of rye, third to half a jigger or so of sweet vermouth and a few shakes of bitters in a cocktail shaker with one ice cube. I shake until the ice is mostly gone, then serve in a 'rocks' glass. Most bars usually put them in a cocktail glass, like a martini. Some folks do like the maraschino cherry, I skip them. Have one buddy who likes them so much that he keeps a jar of the cherries, drained of their juice and refilled with bourbon. I think they ruin my boyish figure. I've gotten a few of my friends hooked on these. After they ran thru the Russell's Reserve I gave them, they had trouble finding more real rye at their liquor store, so they learned to like them made with canadian whiskey. Most Canadian contains some rye in their blend, less now than in the past. You can make the same recipe with blended Scotch, then they're called a Rob Roy. They're all a pretty good drink on a chilly night. Or a hot night, come to think of it. |
i got shitcocked sitting outside playing guitar in the son with some bacardi, i felt great, since drums carry over to guitar i starting beating on the guitar (and weiner) and asked some black guys to spit some shit, they called me crazy and I played goo goo dolls while they walked away.

Have fun waking up from that coma tomorrow. I might do a couple of shots of Ice 101 once I get to the bar, just to get the juices flowing. I'm not man enough to drink 151 straight. I figure 6-7 Captain and Cokes at the house before I go out, then a couple shots once I get there and I'll be able to set it on cruise control the rest of the night. Have a few beers, shoot a few games of pool, talk to a few bustacious skanks... |
Jonesy - Australian tawny 'port'. Sweet, dried fruits. Great with flan or creme brulee, or day old donuts. Whatever you got, it's good with it. Fortified wine = 30 proof or so. This one will fly under the radar and have the bishop kicking out his new stained glass windows. It's stupid good for stupid cheap. Lucas in MO has it for $9/750. Parker rates it at 93, BOCF says 'yeah, what he said'.

I'm on a Schlafly Coffee Stout right now, with a Tucher Dopplebock to come later.

I was thinking about putting some of those cans of ICEHOUSE in the fridge that someone put on my porch the other day, but decided I don't want to puke. I imagine I will get drunk at the bars one day and then decide it would be a good idea to drink those afterhours.

I'm trying this for the first time tonight. (Sorry about the image size!) |
I picked up a sixer of Lincoln, NE's own Empyrean Brewing Company's Burning Skye Scottish Style, and I have to say I'm very impressed with it.
